Great video. I just did this to my XM-L2 flash light that I threw on the shelf about a year ago for this reason. The stupid 5 modes was very irritating and made the light almost useless for my application. I actually replaced it with a bunch of Wuben lights because those would just remember which setting you used last and stay on that setting, but at least now I can have some use for my old light. For anyone who doesn't understand what's going on, the pencil lead acts as a conductor like a line of solder and shorts out the capacitor clearing any memory of what mode it was on last and it will basically reset it to the brightest default setting (basically like removing the battery and clearing all memory). It takes maybe 10 seconds or so to clear the capacitor so it's not instant. This actually works out as you still have time to cycle through the other modes if you wish. If not, leave it off for about 10 seconds and next time you turn it on it will be at the brightest mode again. Brilliant! I did this on my friends XM-L2 lights as well. Note that there are small differences in some of the lights. They all look the same on the outside but there are small differences in the circuit board. The board on my light only had 1 capacitor which made it easy. Elite Tac and Outer are the same.

If you want to use only one mode , simply desolder (remove) the capacitor .
Pro tips . : use head magnifying glass . no for saliva and no graphite .
use fine tip soldering pen , Soldering grease

Also sometimes theres a different pad on the pcb for LED(-), you gotta remove the cap(only one on my pcb) and solder to the separate LED(-) pad to achieve single stable mode.

thanks a bunch! i have a couple of these in my tool kits and they do not need 5 different modes!

Hi, thanks for the trick, i have soldered a 100k resistor in parallel with the capacitor and it works great, i can stil change the mode by turning it off fast.

Probably give it back to the bartender, because there's an unwritten rule that the perfect beer is when the "crown" as they call it, has to be the right amount and you had way too much foam. Btw great video, cheers !

@@Azmo47 thanks but I can tell that you don’t know much about real good European beers and I mean beer sold in Europe not USA, huge difference and that is what I’m drinking btw. I grew up in Europe drinking lot of beer since I was 10 years old so you are barking at wrong tree :)
