- Was not able to figure out the issue, but if anyone wants to see what you are facing when you pull off the cover, this video will at least give you that.
There is another Schwinn 230 video on youtube that talks about this issue and the guy never shows the actual parts, he just does some kind of narrative pantomime of the repair which is really exasperating. - Komedie
Your video really helped me to fix the magnetic resistance on my Sunny SF-RB4616. The company just did not provide very helpful instructions. Thanks so much.
Thanks a lot for your video! Although I own a different stationary bike, your video totally has helped me understand how magentic resistance mechanism works. I feel a lot more confident to open up the housing, check out where the noise comes from and see if there is anything I can do to fix it.
Philip,
Thanks for your video. I'm sorry that you didn't manage a repair.
I two slightly newer versions of the 230. They both suffered the same problem after about 3 years.
Unfortunately, the 230 servo motor is no longer available, but I did manage to get mine fixed none the less.
After detaching the server motor complex, I repowered everything an went through a range of resistances from zero to max.
I noticed that the servo would move but would stick a bit in a particular spot. Probably the default setting for my daily use.
Another post mentioned that he got his to work by rotating a "screw"
Well, the "Screw" is actually a potentiometer. It appears to vary the gain of amps that actuate the motor.
In one position, the motor moves very little, in the other it moves from zero to full range and maxes out quickly.
By increasing the gain a bit, the motor seems to move past its sticking point (probably by momentum). I probably get about 12 actual settings instead of 20 but the bike now works.
Couldn't have done it without you.
+1
Phil, In case you are willing to gamble a little, here is a replacement servo: www.treadmillpartszone.com/nautilus-model-r514c-recumbent-bike-servo-motor-part-number-004-6669/ . It is made by Nautilus, but that is the same company as Schwinn. Looks identical.
Spot on Michael. This salvaged my Craigslist purchase.
@@rickbee7029 Rick, Thanks so much. Was that "spot on" about the potentiometer adjustment or the purchase of the nautilus servo? I'm pretty sure that after a few years, the problem will return and it might make sense to buy a new servo motor while they are still available.
@@mrzboray I was referring to the pot adjustment. I suspect that you’re right about it being just a short-term fix, but it was nice to be able to use it last night and not have total buyers remorse. I may pick up a spare servo anyhow.
Hi Michael,
Regarding the potentiometer adjustment, is it the the small philips head screw in the blue square?
Thanks, Jan
Glad I found this post, and it's reply's, now I can try ordering a Servo kit for my Schwinn that had become useless due to loss of resistance
my loss is your gain my friend
Mine has lost resistance as well. Have to turn it WAY up to get it to work
I replaced the motor on my 270, it cost 24 dollars. After replacing the motor it worked for a few months and then started doing the same thing. the servo motor is garbage.
That white nylon screw inside the little blue square is a potentiometer. Try turning that either forward or back. It will bring the magnets much closer to the flywheel. if that doesn't do the trick then your motor or servo is cooked.
My Schwinn 270 turned into a massive paperweight in the first year. Calling it garbage would be a complement.
Like the old saying goes, there's nothing perfect in this world. That being said, I've had to 230 for some time now, and one of the things I notice is that the heart rate monitor never worked on it. The monitor spikes on the screen, and stays there no matter how long you hold the handlebar monitor contacts beside the seat . I wonder who else had the same problem with their recumbent bike?
Schwinn and their college boy designers simply do not want you to be able to work on this yourselves. Trust me, nobody designs shit like this on purpose for your convenience
just a guess but I think part of the suggestion about the magnets would have normally fixed the bike. So this video is not a total wash. However, it looks like YOUR motor/servo is failing. That's the whirring noise and the plastic white wheel/disc being unable to complete a cycle. If you replaced that part where you can see the "patent" sticker on it with the motor you might actually solve your bike issue.
Anyone know where i can get the drive belt for this thing? Or for some similar bike that looks like this one? Thank you.
Hai sir i just want know what name of the black tool part like a spanar when u open the paddle..?
How much should the white wheel on the motor turn, if it's workingproperly? Mine also has almost no resistance, though the wheel will rotate about 70 degrees from highest to lowest setting.
Mine was rotating about 15 degrees, or about one second of time. After turning the tiny white screw atop the tiny, blue box on the other side, now it rotates about 140 degrees and 10 seconds of time. You have to adjust the screw until the magnets get within less than half-inch away from the flywheel for the highest resistance setting.
Why is it so difficult to specify the manufacturer. model # or size of the crank puller?
Is there a specific size I need to get for the crank puller or is it a universal size? Thanks
I don't know. it may be universal. I got this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028YUZSS
If you don't have any vulnerable children or pets, etc., I'd leave the housing off so that you don't have to remove it (and the cranks) every time you want to inspect and/or do maintenance.
Same boat here except i keep getting error message 01. Mine is probly alot older than yours but cannot get it to work. I too have adjusted the tension.
Pro tip: watch movies at Flixzone. Been using them for watching a lot of movies recently.
@Juan Asa Yea, have been using Flixzone} for months myself :D
@Juan Asa definitely, I've been using Flixzone} for years myself :D
@Juan Asa Yea, I have been using flixzone} for years myself =)
@Juan Asa Yup, been using flixzone} for months myself :D
What is the difference between a recumbent bike and a spin bike?
MIne is electronic in that the white wheel gets no power so it doesn’t even try to turn
Yep servo motor.
Oh and you may want to open that gear box. There are three plastic gears in there that may be damaged.
sigh. we gave it away. I'm slightly happy that I got as far as I did. Taking things apart with my hands is brand new to me. I'm a computer guy and not used to looking under the hood.
@@PhilipBradley at least you tried!!
@@sw-xy2so Is there a way to replace just the plastic gears?
@@cynthiahopkins1614 i wouldnt recommended it and i dont believe they sell just the gears. also, you need the right size gears /ratios. but i am not an expert about that kind of stuff. they sell tjat gear box as one part.
@@PhilipBradley i couldnt get mine to work either. i tried but just couldn't get it to work.
Coloca um mecânico de verdade aí .
Tu mamá me esta arreglando el fierro 🤣
Here is how I was able to solve mine, it's just one solution, if you don't need a servo motor replaced - czcams.com/video/Nm2Q3cGcTf8/video.html
If the servo wheel is not rotating far enough you adjust its range by finding the tiny, blue box on the other side and turning its tiny, white Phillips-head screw.
