    Little bit of thought!
    This for me is quite hard to figure out (as an amateur disc golfer). Being all relaxed isn´t my jam and I overuse my arm I think. So getting the timing right and using the power pocket is something I need to work more on than just in a video like this. After recording I´ve started to focus more and more on the timing and I think there are even more in depth stuff that interest me about this. Like how to coil etc. Anyways with practice comes a wee bit better I hope 😂🤘

    The best piece of advice I ever got was to get as loose and numb as you can, and then get looser. I started trying to become too loose, just to see how far I could take it before it ruined my shot, and that's when I started getting real power and snap off the disc

    The way I imagine it is like when you spin in an office chair and bring your legs in it speeds you up, and when you extend your legs the spinning slows down. Driving form is basically spinning in the chair 180 degrees. You start with your legs extended and then the power pocket is the speed gained from tucking everything in. Then you use the speed you gained from bringing your weight to center in the 'power pocket' and extend the arm, capturing the speed you made while tucked.

    Definitely where I struggle the most, after almost 3 years, is trying to relax. My best shots are my slowest and most relaxed, but it is STILL totally counter intuitive. I try and focus on thinking of my hips rotating my shoulders and let my arm be as loose as possible, while still gripping the disc. Let’s get smooth and fast together everyone!🇸🇪🇨🇦

      See I'm behind y'all. I don't think I've ever actually focused on my hips. Just all arms and shoulders. I definitely don't ever feel relaxed. This look like another hard addition to the game that's gonna be fun to learn.

      Something I remember Tristan Tanner saying went something like "trying to go faster never results in better" when you're trying to learn a new movement. Slow down until it's correct and you don't have to think to do it correctly.

    I’ve never been able to find someone to explain it this way. I always ask “am I supposed to try real hard with arm” but no one can really answer. So this was super helpful. Explaining it to be more like a slingshot and where to do that is helpful. You guys are my favorite disc golf CZcams channel. Very entertaining and educational!

    • @mattsnyder4754
      @mattsnyder4754 Před rokem +1

      Yep. Your arm is actually one of the least “used” muscles.
      Hips are working hard. Torso and shoulders are rotating hard. The arm can basically just be a noodle outside of the little bit of muscle involved in actually “aiming”

    I was out practicing with some putters this morning and was trying to focus on my throws as a whole body movement, a complete, fluid motion, not worrying about power or distance. By doing this and adjusting to a fan grip I feel I had a really useful session and it felt like each disc flew more true to their numbers and flight paths. My Runes flew straight and the Proxy and Stabilizer faded reliably as expected. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow with my mids.

I got a lot of work to do as its now messed up my 3 step timing/speed but I think I'll finally be driving with mids vs fairways to get even more accuracy

  • @bedfrags7244
    @bedfrags7244 Před rokem +1

    I still have a long journey to work on form, it has helped me to imagine driving with my shoulder, not my arm or hand. If you time the drive with your shoulder, it should sync with the rest of the power your lower body is producing. Imagine a horizontal string pulling your shoulder forward after the reach back. Just be as relaxed as a puppet and slow it down if need be. I have trouble with trying to rip through the disc after the pull back and It’s throwing the whole sync process off. Gonna have to try some field work at 20% power and just try and get into that power pocket flow. Also be conscience of leaning to forward or back. A good visual of a a hoola hoop around you.

    Don't throw full speed without weight in your hand. It can cause injury on tendons. Like a baseball pitcher uses a towel drill. Use a t shirt or hand towel it will snap as a bonus.

    This works super well for me:
    During the run up, keep the x-step small and fast, then there’s a delay, and then you plant step. This extra half second that you buy yourself allows you to do some key things: lets all your joints catch up and hover in the right position, allows you to check your aim is true, and most importantly… RELAX. This way, as soon as your plant foot touches the ground you’re already positioned to snap everything forward
