- 80's Michael Jordan vs 80's Magic Johnson - Epic Shoot-Out In Chicago Stadium Bulls vs Lakers
Michael Jordan vs Magic Johnson at Chicago Stadium in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's final game in Chicago. This was an incredible match-up of NBA legends featuring the world champions of the future against the Reigning World Champion Lakers! Watch 80's Michael Jordan & 80's Magic Johnson go toe to toe!!! Magic & Michael trade shots back & forth!
At the beginning of the video you will hear comments from Michael Jordan about his frustrations with his teammates on the Chicago Bulls. Context is king when it pertains to these comments. First of all, Michael had every right to feel that way. This was a grind. Jordan was not happy about the Bulls trading away Charles Oakley, and Bill Cartwright clearly did not have top center talent. Draft picks Scottie Pippen & Horace Grant had produced inconsistent results, and Pippen was currently coming off the bench. And with the #1 overall pick that year, who did Jerry Krause draft to help Michael Jordan? He drafted Will Perdue 11th overall, which was a brutally bad 1st round draft pick.
Imagine how Jordan felt as he spent months in anticipation for help, and Jerry Krause drafts... Will Perdue? Can anyone find film that exists where Will Perdue shows NBA talent? Michael Jordan was frustrated, after years of going to battle with inferior teammates. In context, this was not a championship caliber team & Jordan would be proven absolutely correct in his assessment that this team was not championship material, yet. He helped some of his teammates become championship material, through patience & hard work... but Michael was correct in his assessment at this moment in time. He didn't demand a trade. He didn't demand for teammates to be traded. He did absolutely, however, let teammates know, when he thought they weren't good. Jordan’s dislike for [Will] Perdue was palpable. He called him “Will Vanderbilt.” “He doesn’t deserve to be named after a Big Ten school,” Jordan would explain. So, that's the context behind Michael Jordan's comments, in the video. Jordan had been working hard at attempting to turn around the franchise, and maybe he felt by making these statements he could motivate his younger teammates to stop wasting time. Jordan wanted to win, NOW.
This was such a fun game & there was some North Carolina Tar Heel vs North Carolina Tar Heel action featuring former NCAA National Championship teammates Michael Jordan vs James Worthy. Michael didn't just have Magic Johnson to deal with, he had his ex-teammate to deal with, in crunch time, as well. Enjoy!

Youngsters love saying that MJ was just a scorer, but fail to realize that he had a complete game. He was all over the court in this game offensively and defensively scoring, passing, rebounding, playing the passing lanes, on ball defense, and help defense. He even hit 3's when it wasn't his forte. Complete player!
Yeah. He playing against Magic so he tries to show he can play all around
@@tommymack4677 I remember that he would often hold back on his scoring just to compete with Magic at his own game. He was always a student of the game.

MJ played all around in every game. You better do more research and check his stats

I love this shit. Born in 77 I remember all this like yesterday. The 80s were great.
My gosh the effort to take all these videotapes, convert them, optimise them, and then edit them... one after the other after another... hats off to you @BlitzSportsNetwork for doing this; it’s very compelling viewing and a fantastic archive series.
Well it was worth the effort thank you
80s games were so fast paced. Yet, the players were required to play the full game without load management
MJ was right about that message he sent to Steven A Smith Magic is the best PG ever over Steph 💯
Awesome game! I don't know if it's me, but I find these games far more exciting and captivating then the current NBA games.
Thank you for uploading and sharing these games with us all. Much appreciated.
today's game is fun to watch during highlight reels (with 80% of the plays as 3 pointers) but it's downright painful to watch live.
3 pointer from 35 feet...miss. Rebound....dribble to other side, 3 pointer....miss.....repeat.

😪😪😪😪 f*ckin digusting.
We barely see any backdoor cuts for lobs or posters anymore because everyone is standing on the f*ccn 3 point line bro smh
現代的比賽都在假摔,我以為在看足球比賽
The modern game is flopping, I thought I was watching a football game
Because this is real basketball. Not a 3 point contest.
today's NBA is shit.
It's amazing to see MJ playing against the great teams with not so much help. It's nothing more than superhuman 🦄
1984 Olympics warm ups he torches NBA all star team 9-0
Game looked more entertaining back then!! On defense and offense there was no taking a break
I mean...barely a couple of minutes into the game and MJ had rebounds, deflections, and the jumpshot poppin'. He didn't just expect the team to improve, he worked harder at it than anyone else.
Im 58. If i take a notion to watch ANY PRO SPORT today ..... i come to youtube and watch 80s 70s and 60s sht. Its just so much better and so less fake.
3 of the top 5 on the floor at the same time. Wild stuff.
Love it! Proud Chicagoan! LEGENDARY GOAT MICHAEL JORDAN
Chicagoan here as well. God, what a golden age of basketball for the Bulls. Wow!!!!!!! Love the old Chicago Stadium. The old barn was rocking to the rafters.
@@cubfan69kmz85i totally agree about the Old Madhouse on Madison rocking for Bulls & Blackhawks games👍
The real NBA
i Recorded this game on Tbs in 1985 on Vhs when i was in 10th grade in High school , i still have the Tape , Magic was unstoppable in Chicago
Pippen wasn't drafted until 87...ijs
I think that game is on CZcams as well.
Do you stil lhave the tape or did you record any other games you kept?
Exactly!!...when Magic wanted to, he could score and there was nobody that could stop him...because he chose to be a pass first guard, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves....my all time favorite player!
Thank you for this upload. Just basketball. Not a tv show like they're putting out these days.
Idk how someone can look at these players and think they couldn't play in today's NBA.
because they dont know basketball. Today's basketball is not basketball, it is trash - with weak defense, lousy rules, and flopping players.
The ONLY player worth watching is Giannis Antetokounmpo who is really an old skool player at heart.
I dont even watch the modern nba anymore, there's just no point. There is no competition, it is incredibly boring and just - frankly- a waste of time.
The current NBA commissioner has ruined the game - along with the modern "players".
THEY ARE SUPERIOR TO ANY OF THE TRASH WEAK PLAYERS OF TODAY. ONLY STUPID PUNKS THINK THAT
They would dominate todays NBA.
I'm sure that Pippen's 2 points in 15 minutes is what "carried" Jordan to this win 🙄 Scottie gets all the credit right
the same way the bronsexuals say "the bulls only won championships because of pippen" What the bronsexuals fail to acknowledge is that in 1991 pippen wasn't even an allstar
Pip in his early days with the Bulls was absolutely trash 😂
Who is the GOAT 🏀
Jordan made Pippen .
Bruce, thanks for putting out these (almost) full-game videos so people can see MJ in the context of a game and not just highlights.
🗣️EXACTLY . THEIR IS A BIG. DIFFERENCE .>🎤 🏀🗑️

I've gotta give ya a 👍 for all that time an effort holy smokes Great Job!! To Bad my Pistons stoled the thrown from these boys 😂 bahaha!!!!
@@jbl7946 The Pistons never stole the throne from the Bulls. They beat the Bulls before they were ever champions. The Bulls did however take the throne from the Pistons. Hahahaha
Wow, good job.
@@jbl7946what are you even yacking about? Pistons played thug ball everyone knows that. The Bulls were more athletic & plus Jordan & Bulls had 6 championships to your Pistons 2. The Bulls might even have had 8 championships in a row if Jordan didn't sit out for 2 years.
Worthy Fouls Jordan but he doesn’t wine….
That theme brings tears to my eyes huge bulls fan
Every era has its superstars but when Jordan came there was no stopping the inevitable. He was the Thanos of the 90s and they never learned to create a Time Machine for him!!!

Good old days..of real basketball..
That interview in the beginning is what made MJ 6 Rings with the Bulls so incredible. His desire to win with the willingness to hold other players and people within the organization to his level of commitment was unmatched. He turned this crappy franchise into the best organization in basketball while he was there in-spite of the dysfunction. The way he played every possession on both ends of the floor is just maniacal! He is and will always be the GOAT!
And he didn't join forces with other super stars
@@RightInFrontOfYouthis is true & Jordan even said why he wouldn't join forces creating a super team. He said why would i do that when other superstars were his competition & driving force to become better.
salute blitz appreciate the videos, great history lessons
you can see mj's move compare to all the player in this era mj is way way ahead of his time
Bulls was such a one man show that time.
Did he just say after the game. Mother juggs and speed is coming on LMAO. One of my favorite movies
I don.t know if people realize how fast was MJ. The dude was insanely fast.
Wow at this time in he Bulls history Horace Grant was by fsr the second best player on the Bulls. Pippen and Cartwright especially sucked.
Pipp on the bench during crunch time. Of course jordan was a horrible teammate to you because you were a bench warmer, you had to earn his respect.
That Wheaties commercial is probably the best ad placement ever
All those who like to say Jordan didn't win anything without pippen, where is when the game started? He's on the bench .
Can we please go back to this. Please.
Amazing upload.
Thank you from Poland :-)
Love the content Blitz! Salute from Texas 😂
I can smell this somehow lmao. I love the shadows and that dull glare on the old Chicago Stadium hardwood. That was a got damn gym. I suppose now a lot of professional lighting and staging takes place, anti-glare tv-ready varnish on the court something like that. This was a very different era, different technology. Different money.
But you can see by the commercials how much the league is absolutely exploding across the culture on the back of these two plus Bird. What an exciting time in both the NBA and mass media! Then boom goes the dynamite in the 90s, man, and MJ is damn near as popular as MJ (tee hee). I'm not stoned, you're stoned.
The great Skip Caray with the call!
As a kid it would bug me how much mj would knock down 2 pters all night standing on the 3 point line 😂 he could’ve had so many more points had he move back inches
I temember this game from when I was young (51 now). We just had cable tv here in the Netherlands ('87 or '88), they showed the NBA on Superchannel, but only the second half.😊
So I'm watching the 1st half now, for the first time.
I also recorded most of these games on the VCR, I still have those tapes, but I wonder if there's anything still on it.
Good thing Blitz is here to do the dirty work for us
🎊🎉👍🏻
Glad to see Bruce Blitz still going hard in the paint with videos after all these years. Imo you should go ahead and just make a 100 hour doc on MJ. The last dance left out too much. Didn’t even include the Olympics dunk on magic Johnson or Bobby knight.
Un verdadero partido de las estrellas. Espectacular el partido de los lakers, lástima q fallasen en los minutos finales, pudo ser para cualquiera
Excellent footage. The best player ever against M. Jordan 😊.
You would get in an argument with Magic over that comment
Michael Jordan the GOAT forever🏀
Thank you! You're a true blessing.
You could see in Magic's eyes that he knew he wasn't the best player in the league anymore.
MJ respected MJ...
first and foresmost , id like to thank BLITZ SPORTS NETWORK for bringing back the best hoop show on the planet where the best basketball era only witnessed once in a lifetime.
Amazing work as always.
I had to look at Jordan's sneakers to tell what year this game was.
1988?
Am I the only one who noticed Jordan dunked the ball with 23 seconds left on the clock.. 😎😂
At 21:00 the way they are talking about Collins being original in making the 3 point shot an important part of the game cut to 2010s & 20s
Jordan is the best, nobody is close in the game of Basketball!
Yo if magic Johnson had a jump shot there's no question he would have been the greatest player of all time
If if was a fifth then we all would be drunk 😅😅
EN LO PERSONAL ,, CREO QUE ES EL MEJOR DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS . EL GRAN MAGIC .
I'm a big Magic fan and think he would've needed more to be the GOAT. For starters, he would need to WANT to be the GOAT and seriously he didn't care. He just wanted to win and go with the hot hand.
Jordan is the only one I know that can win while showing he's the GOAT. All other players would hurt their team too much when trying to prove that.
@@jimmyjamz2781I don't drink😅
Knowing or just trying to picture a yearly finals of the two MJ’s breaks my heart. I will always have to dream and speculate if Magic’s Lakers would have beaten a so called invincible Bulls squad. Dr. Buss fielding a healthy Magic Johnson would have been on those phones working without sleep trying to give Magic an even roster to go into battle with. Oh how delicious it is to drool on that what if.
I had forgotten just how awful Cartwright appeared that trade looked like it would turn out, but Ole' Billy C came around. This bunch here was hopeless. If Cartwright was an automatic fumble or TO, Sellers might as well played while carrying a purse.
Hey Pippen where is that garbage Jordan player you carried? (while on the bench).
Love the content
50:09 what a dunk..!! 💪
Wow Chicago was good in his home!
If I had a chance to pick a team for a 3 on 3 tournament I'd choose MJ, Kareem, and Wilt.

Rookie MJ was the best player in NBA history up til that point just think about that
He should have taken his talents to southbeach 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I see why people say Penny Hardaway was the next Magic Johnson their games were so similar Penny was just Magic on steroids like Magic mixed with Mj's athleticism a shame that injuries derailed his career cause watching these clips of Magic in his prime is like watching Penny in his prime before injuries Penny had a better arsenal of moves and better jumpshot was a Magic/Jordan Hybrid
FACTS!!!
Penny was nowhere near the passer that Magic was. Penny was nowhere near the rebounder Magic was. Penny was not nearly as clutch as Magic was. Penny was nowhere near the floor general Magic was.
No blood no fouls..loool

Pippin was coming off the bench..hmmmm
Klay Thompson wasn't born yet in this game... Piston win the chips against Lakers.
@Blitzsportsnetwork, can you do an update on the 100 michael jordan feats that lebron will never pass
Brad Sellers would have a much better time if he played today. Abused victims are treated way more kindly.
Man I have a list of guys who would be great in this current era. Being a Bulls fan I remember being pissed they drafted Brad Sellers a 7 foot guard over Johnny Dawkins who was a solid PG.
I forgot how much Brad Sellers stank. That package about Jordan complaining about the team at the beginning was 100% about Brad and Doug trying to force a "stretch big" into the lineup with him. Doug wasn't wrong in the long run, but brad wasn't the guy and I think Jordan wanted them to draft a guard. Also, at this point of the season Scottie Pippen was coming off the bench still. So by playoff time, Pippen was starting alongside Jordan, but I guess that still didn't save Doug Collins' Job. Too bad Brad Sucked. He got fired after this season and thus the Legend of Phil Jackson was born. Phil and his Triangle bullshit, yet Douge and Jerry’s and Idea about stretching the floor with a big has proved a superior. They kinda Sorta got that with Tony Kukoc a few years later and that team set the Record for wins in a season.
MAKES ME WONDER 🤔 WITH MAGICS FG PERCENTAGE IF HE OF BEEN A SHOOT FIRST KINDA PLAYER WAT # HE WOULD OF HAD THO GLAD HE WASNT BUT BOY WHEN HE DECIDED TO SHOOT HE WAS $!!!
Magic was the greatest overall offensive player of all time (IMO). Only reason I don’t argue when people choose MJ over Magic is because of the defensive end of the court.
cartwright omg. terrible. Absolutely terrible hands. Then the lechina worshipers say jordan didnt do this or that early on, he had nobody. Scotty was not even significant at all in this game. Paxson was clutch because he is a great shooter but who else? Watching this game , then seeing at the end the up coming games and teams playing around christmas, how i miss looking forward to jordan playing. Miss jumping from one game to the next with say barkley etc ... Now? I dont even watch the nba. Jordan with really nobody beat Magic, Worthy, Kareem and B. Scott. Three of the four are hall of famers.
I have one thing to say MJ played defense on Magic Johnson pretty much the whole game but in the 90s when they played at 9180% of that finals Michael Jordan played defense on Magic Johnson but they credited to Scottie Pippen and Scottie Pippen. Don’t look that hot in this game.
Facts! Contrary to the opinions of some, Michael Jordan - not Scottie Pippen - most often drew the opposition’s toughest perimeter assignment. However, it was close: Jordan did so 8 times, while Scottie Pippen assumed this responsibility 7 times.
Anyone who watched the 1991 NBA Finals in full would know that it was Jordan - not Pippen - who guarded Magic Johnson for nearly 85-90% of that series. The exception was the first half of Game 2 and the 2H of Game 3.
Out of 24 playoff series, Michael Jordan - not Scottie Pippen -guarded the better perimeter player more often. Specifically,Jordan guarded the better perimeter player during 13 playoff series, while Pippen guarded the better perimeter player 11 times.
So Pippen only guarded Magic for 2 halves....and yet most people think he guarded him most of the series. Its amazing what some highlights, reputation, and word of mouth can do!
Shannon sharp get over it already LeBron James will never ever become like Sir Jordan. SAY NO MORE.
Magic is better than LeBron James in my opinion. But they are all great! Love the NBA.
