  • 80's Michael Jordan vs 80's Magic Johnson - Epic Shoot-Out In Chicago Stadium Bulls vs Lakers
    Michael Jordan vs Magic Johnson at Chicago Stadium in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's final game in Chicago. This was an incredible match-up of NBA legends featuring the world champions of the future against the Reigning World Champion Lakers! Watch 80's Michael Jordan & 80's Magic Johnson go toe to toe!!! Magic & Michael trade shots back & forth!
    At the beginning of the video you will hear comments from Michael Jordan about his frustrations with his teammates on the Chicago Bulls. Context is king when it pertains to these comments. First of all, Michael had every right to feel that way. This was a grind. Jordan was not happy about the Bulls trading away Charles Oakley, and Bill Cartwright clearly did not have top center talent. Draft picks Scottie Pippen & Horace Grant had produced inconsistent results, and Pippen was currently coming off the bench. And with the #1 overall pick that year, who did Jerry Krause draft to help Michael Jordan? He drafted Will Perdue 11th overall, which was a brutally bad 1st round draft pick.
    Imagine how Jordan felt as he spent months in anticipation for help, and Jerry Krause drafts... Will Perdue? Can anyone find film that exists where Will Perdue shows NBA talent? Michael Jordan was frustrated, after years of going to battle with inferior teammates. In context, this was not a championship caliber team & Jordan would be proven absolutely correct in his assessment that this team was not championship material, yet. He helped some of his teammates become championship material, through patience & hard work... but Michael was correct in his assessment at this moment in time. He didn't demand a trade. He didn't demand for teammates to be traded. He did absolutely, however, let teammates know, when he thought they weren't good. Jordan’s dislike for [Will] Perdue was palpable. He called him “Will Vanderbilt.” “He doesn’t deserve to be named after a Big Ten school,” Jordan would explain. So, that's the context behind Michael Jordan's comments, in the video. Jordan had been working hard at attempting to turn around the franchise, and maybe he felt by making these statements he could motivate his younger teammates to stop wasting time. Jordan wanted to win, NOW.
    This was such a fun game & there was some North Carolina Tar Heel vs North Carolina Tar Heel action featuring former NCAA National Championship teammates Michael Jordan vs James Worthy. Michael didn't just have Magic Johnson to deal with, he had his ex-teammate to deal with, in crunch time, as well. Enjoy!

    Youngsters love saying that MJ was just a scorer, but fail to realize that he had a complete game. He was all over the court in this game offensively and defensively scoring, passing, rebounding, playing the passing lanes, on ball defense, and help defense. He even hit 3's when it wasn't his forte. Complete player!

      The ONLY player worth watching is Giannis Antetokounmpo who is really an old skool player at heart.
      I dont even watch the modern nba anymore, there's just no point. There is no competition, it is incredibly boring and just - frankly- a waste of time.

I suppose now a lot of professional lighting and staging takes place, anti-glare tv-ready varnish on the court something like that. This was a very different era, different technology. Different money.
    But you can see by the commercials how much the league is absolutely exploding across the culture on the back of these two plus Bird. What an exciting time in both the NBA and mass media! Then boom goes the dynamite in the 90s, man, and MJ is damn near as popular as MJ (tee hee). I'm not stoned, you're stoned.

    Glad to see Bruce Blitz still going hard in the paint with videos after all these years. Imo you should go ahead and just make a 100 hour doc on MJ. The last dance left out too much. Didn’t even include the Olympics dunk on magic Johnson or Bobby knight.

      I'm a big Magic fan and think he would've needed more to be the GOAT. For starters, he would need to WANT to be the GOAT and seriously he didn't care. He just wanted to win and go with the hot hand.
      Jordan is the only one I know that can win while showing he's the GOAT. All other players would hurt their team too much when trying to prove that.

    Knowing or just trying to picture a yearly finals of the two MJ’s breaks my heart. I will always have to dream and speculate if Magic’s Lakers would have beaten a so called invincible Bulls squad. Dr. Buss fielding a healthy Magic Johnson would have been on those phones working without sleep trying to give Magic an even roster to go into battle with. Oh how delicious it is to drool on that what if.

  • @thedrewshow4753
    @thedrewshow4753 Před 8 měsíci

    I forgot how much Brad Sellers stank. That package about Jordan complaining about the team at the beginning was 100% about Brad and Doug trying to force a "stretch big" into the lineup with him. Doug wasn't wrong in the long run, but brad wasn't the guy and I think Jordan wanted them to draft a guard. Also, at this point of the season Scottie Pippen was coming off the bench still. So by playoff time, Pippen was starting alongside Jordan, but I guess that still didn't save Doug Collins' Job. Too bad Brad Sucked. He got fired after this season and thus the Legend of Phil Jackson was born. Phil and his Triangle bullshit, yet Douge and Jerry’s and Idea about stretching the floor with a big has proved a superior. They kinda Sorta got that with Tony Kukoc a few years later and that team set the Record for wins in a season.

    cartwright omg. terrible. Absolutely terrible hands. Then the lechina worshipers say jordan didnt do this or that early on, he had nobody. Scotty was not even significant at all in this game. Paxson was clutch because he is a great shooter but who else? Watching this game , then seeing at the end the up coming games and teams playing around christmas, how i miss looking forward to jordan playing. Miss jumping from one game to the next with say barkley etc ... Now? I dont even watch the nba. Jordan with really nobody beat Magic, Worthy, Kareem and B. Scott. Three of the four are hall of famers.

    I have one thing to say MJ played defense on Magic Johnson pretty much the whole game but in the 90s when they played at 9180% of that finals Michael Jordan played defense on Magic Johnson but they credited to Scottie Pippen and Scottie Pippen. Don’t look that hot in this game.

    • @theresaking7020
      @theresaking7020 Před 8 měsíci

      Facts! Contrary to the opinions of some, Michael Jordan - not Scottie Pippen - most often drew the opposition’s toughest perimeter assignment. However, it was close: Jordan did so 8 times, while Scottie Pippen assumed this responsibility 7 times.
      Anyone who watched the 1991 NBA Finals in full would know that it was Jordan - not Pippen - who guarded Magic Johnson for nearly 85-90% of that series. The exception was the first half of Game 2 and the 2H of Game 3.
      Out of 24 playoff series, Michael Jordan - not Scottie Pippen -guarded the better perimeter player more often. Specifically,Jordan guarded the better perimeter player during 13 playoff series, while Pippen guarded the better perimeter player 11 times.
      So Pippen only guarded Magic for 2 halves....and yet most people think he guarded him most of the series. Its amazing what some highlights, reputation, and word of mouth can do!
