- Today we are taking another look at the brand new Maverick Quantum RX flux!
A 1/8 Scale Rally Cross RC Car which not only looks EPIC but promises powerful 4s performance right out the box!
Compared to the competition this is the cheapest 1/8 option available if you want a RC Rally Car!
I have had some time to experience the car properly and today we talk about some of the flaws and issues I have found with this impressive 1/8 cheap rally car!
Check out the Car and Full Spec here:

This is a great platform for people who dont want to spend out on the Traxxas Rally or the HPI WR8 and at the current price its a steal!
Considering what you get there is nothing else out there that can offer the same for the money.

for $270 shipped this QuantumRX is awesome, ran it once and loved the way it drives. the rebranded hobbywings esc/motor alone are worth $100-$150. i gorilla tape the inside of my RC bodies and it helps tremendously. tires are 100mm x 42mm, powerhobby has tires/wheels that fit, Jekto Tomahawk is the set i want but $90 for a set is pretty steep. this thing needs a dust cover and some mud guards, no specifc ones made for it yet so will have to be creative.
I really appreciate you making this video - very often we see (especially with cheaper rc ccars) one video when the thing is new, we learn what are the cons and pros out of the box, but not how it holds up in the long run. This can help those who got one to take some measures (e.g. to strengthen the body) before a damage occurs. The car rides really great - I would love to see a comparison with its brother.
Glad you enjoyed this video Matus. Will try and do similar videos in the future. You are right and I am guilty of this myself. One video then nothing.. no long term test. Videos like this help prepare buyers so will do more in the future. Thanks!
@@beyondRC thank you. Yes, I am indeed fully aware that it is much easier to ask for a video, then do it (those who did not try to make one well prepared and edited video are always surprised to find out how much work & time it takes). I am fully aware that it is just not possible to make a follow-up or a long term review for every car. Tank you for your work.
Thanks for the update 👍
Great update. I finally found one. It's on the way. Did you have a list of the bearing sizes???
Great tips,I'm definitely going to get one,I'm going strengthen the body before anything else, going to copy your clip idea also 👍 great vid 👍👍😀😀👌👌
Nice! Thank you for this. I was thinking of getting one myself
They are great but keep an eye on the body and bearings!
Gotta love it, 4 seconds in and he’s answered my question. I’ll be on my way 😉
Love the review man! And I personally agree with you - it looks insanely good! But then again, I'm a sucker for rally style cars so there's my bias haha
As for wheels and tires my choices have opened up more...I set the front and rear body mounts one screw hole higher.....I also changed the mounting position of the shocks....Finally I tightened the threaded shocks most of the way down to increase the spring rate....The stock spring rate is (SOFT) especially in the rear....So now I have a solid 1 inch gap between the tire and wheel wells (after it drops and settles)............It is approximately 1 1/8" - 1 3/16" (close to 1.25") between the top of the tires and center of the wheel wells if I just pick it up and gently set it down.
Also, the Duratrax 6 Pack tires/wheels would just bolt right up....No mods.
Or
The Duratrax Picket
BOTH are 104mm diameter and 42mm wide with 17mm hex. BUT they are C2 (soft) compound.......So not too sure.
Anyway, with the lift there should be no problem running anything from stock (100mm) to 120mm easily.....Slight trimming on the front and rear portion of each fender would allow the 120mm tires or more....But all the 109-115mm stuff would work easily.
My goal is to put knobby softer taller sidewall tires that are close to an inch bigger than stock, gear it down, run on 3s with Gyro. See how it does on dirt, gravel and jumps.
some excellent info here!
Thanks for the great info. Just moved my body posts and it made a huge difference. Will be putting in 70wt shock oil later today and have dry wall tape, shoe goo'd and sealed with black flex seal, the body.
Another great vid Ricky !
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers mate!
Terrific review. I was really interested. I have an HSP rally car that I love, this one reminds me of it a bit.
Glad you liked it!!
For the body use the rc hack. Get shoe goo and the fiber pattern dry wall tape and layer it on the bottom of the body. It will toughen it up a lot. I do it to most of my rc trucks.
Yes I also do this most of the time and this will be another mod I will be doing straight away!
I would also round out the corners at the bottom of the body, I would not be surprised if it snags on the ground or even the tires themselves as the car bounces around offroad.
That's a good idea. I just mentioned to use fiberglass mat and some resin. Same principle.
Great Test 😃💪
Thank you! Cheers!
can't find the rally version here in the states....😢
How different are the other 2 versions? Seems like the muscle car might be close? Any thoughts?
I'm so glad I came across this video, I have the quantum+ and was trying to think of ways to cover the spur as it's way too close to the battery. Mine came loose yesterday, and the spur marked the battery. Thankfully, it was a hard case, so I got lucky! Didn't even know they made a cover. Got one in order now! BTW nice video 🫡
Very welcome!
I have one of these and a wr8 they are both beasts in their own right. Keep up the videos there will always be haters
My body broke in the same exact spot I suspected the mounts for the shell are too easy to move causing unnecessary flexing
Is there a bearing kit for it?
Thank you for doing this update. I was all set to buy one but now I will pay more for something better. The tires and body made it a no go for me, especially if no other 1/8 bodies will fit it
Last week I got to drive my cousin's Quantum and WR8. I really liked the quantum and for $300 you really can't do better for a rally car. Unfortunately, I fell in love with WR8. It was like a rally car and an infraction had a baby. Gotta put a couple hundred more in the rc fund jar...
I think it looks fantastic. Have seen in person at the local shop.
Do the GRP wheels and tires not fit ? i use them on the Street Flux R
Yeah they do perfectly it’s the lack of off road options that bothers me :/
Looks fun bud but I'd have to change the body it really looks odd 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Team Associated has rally's for just a little more, but, they are 1/10 scale, as opposed to 1/8. Not trying to argue with you, but I do think I am going to try the Maverick. Love your videos, you are one of the few that I actually value your opinion. Thanks for the videos, keep them coming.
Thank you Donald
Hpi has a a lot rally tires from the 1/8 scale Ford. Focus and Fiesta and there also available on Amazon with the RIP #43 KEN BLOCK
I just watched the last video and noticed the same thing about the body. It looks good in motion, just not so much with the body flapping about. I would still buy this car, and apply a couple layers of fiberglass mat and resin to the inside. That should firm it up nicely and you can shave down and trim the excess for fitment.
I think it performed very well on that track for a rally car. Looks like a great car on grass.
Where is that pump track? I'd love to take my cars there 😉
Great overall performer for sure just a few minor easily solved issues!
This track is in Rayne (Rayne BMX track) Braintree CM7
Cheers!
Do they offer a thicker body? This might be the ultra thin verson for weight savings
Nope the stock one sucks!
Appreciate this video and your timing, I’m hopefully hitting the buy button in the next few days, I’ll add a bearing set and body reinforcements to the order.. having both scales of Arrma infraction, I’m getting used to limited tyre options. 😢
What would you think of the Arrma Senton 4x4 3S BLX as a contender? I know it's officially a 1/10 scale and this is 1/8 scale and has a different body style (still small wheel size and off-road), but the Senton has even slightly longer wheelbase than this, has more ground clearance in the front and goes faster. Last, but not least, the Senton is currently cheaper than the Quantum RX Flux at least here in Finland.
the senton is an excellent choice, low CG, durable and fast. a great contender for this..
Have just trim the body a little .and buggy wheels would fit. Oh rally cars usually use shortcourse wheels , you can even just use Traxxas rally wheels. With arrmas everyone was happy with rubber bearings but the metal ones they were using were far more superior. Less slop too . I live near Salt water I give them tiny shot silicone oll after cleaning
At $300, I wouldn't say this is a "cheap" rig for most, I guess comparing to things like hopped up Kratons, sure, but for a lot of us, $300 is a bit of change. I don't think the fact that this is mostly affordable justifies all of it's flaws. I still do not understand why so many RTRs come with crappy servos, even after being in this hobby for a couple of years. The body should be thicker, and I would've liked to see standard size wheels, there really isn't much excuse for those, especially the wheels (maybe they wanted to make it look more proportionally accurate, but as it stands, the Flux still has a vague STI/WRX silhouette, but squashed, the wheelbase looks too short for the body proportions). The servo is passable, but bearings are something that shouldn't be cheaped out on. Bearings aren't that expensive for manufacturers, and replacing all the bearings is a significant task on most cars.
The Flux is still a good rig, albeit with some questionable flaws. I still don't like how so many influencers just glaze over and rationalize flaws because a car is "cheap".
Its cheap for a 1/8 scale car when compared to other 1/8 rigs out there for sure. Truth is even the top end stuff isn't perfect. Its not a case of glazing over it or sugar coating a turd its a case of comparing out to what's out there and realising actually for the price its not too bad even with the minor flaws which are easily solved. Cheers
@@beyondRC nah chinese rc cars can be this "good" also parts are still nonexistent chinese cars have more spare/aftermarket parts...
Good review
Welp...I ordered one...and its going to be in the UK before I show up....so you best get ready to RALLY CROSS with me!!!🤣🤣🤣
We will work something out man!
Don't feed the trolls!
I have been thinking about getting one of these but I think I'm going to wait a Lil bit and finish some projects first
It's an 8th scale car.....which probably means it's basically a 10th scale sct, so will 10th scale sct tires fit?
difficult to find 10th scale sct wheels/tyres that fit as its 17mm Hex fitment. Most of the 1/10 are the more common 12mm hex :/
Might be an option for tires
old video i know but blame CZcams for putting on my feed, as for it's flaws, the main one I care about is the tires. If you can't get replacement tires, then it's completely worthless as far as I'm concerned.
Wheels and tyres are available for it in different brands all over the world
IDK Ricky. One year ago I bought the Maverick Quantum XT Flux and It has been nothing but disappointment after disappointment. HPI is charging very high prices for their stuff or should I say junk. Same isses as you: crappy bearings, servo, ESC, wing attchment, too thin body shell, you get the idea. Even though It is a 1/10 scale, it's not that far away from a 1/8th. I don't mean to be a curmudgeon, but I'd think twice about HPI. Otherwise, great video as always.
I agree with all of that. HPI have been getting progressively worse over the years with no new releases and no innovation. Maverick and Blackzon are probably the only thing keeping them alive as I dont think a lot of their old stuff sells anymore! I have had the truggy and it was terrible so I feel your pain. Time will tell if this is a good more or not but 3 weeks in I already discovered these flaws!
Check zd racing, I think they made a 1/8 rally car of similar size
Will check it out :)
Slow steering is good at high speed in some cases.
yeah but this is built for off road use not for on road high speed :)
Thanks for your upload 👍🙏🐈
cheers mate
Being that you are lucky enough to live in the continent you do. If I were in your place for that amnt, id buy the "Reely Rat Max" instead. Id have bought several Reely Rc if there were any way to get em in USA.
We can’t get reely here in the Uk but I believe FTX offer all of the reely products and they are readily available in the UK
@@beyondRC im not sure bout that. Some ppl think rgt and ftx are same also. I really want tha out of prod. Reely mustang hot rod. Then put an old 30s coupe body on it.
Traxxas rally wheels might work
Is this car as loud as it is in footage? That whirring sound absolutely hurts my ears
Sounds fine in person.. could be the mic
Nice
The noises it makes on landing are horrible. I’m not sure if it’s the body shell clashing or the chassis but it’s awful
Mine does 100mph
I owned the Hpi wr8 Ken Block FLUX and I don’t know anyone that owns that has not agreed it is the best Ralley car EVER! At least this company is made by Hpi apparently.
Maverick is a company owned and operated by HPI :)
I do not like rally cars for a reason... they are not basher and they can't handle offroad. They are just onroad car with different weels and more torque...and also budget... i mean it has the same prize as a brushless slash that can hold a lot more, totally waterprood and dirt proof, ans u can also get the brushed for far less and convert it to rally with some add ons. it was not a complete and objective review. The fiesta st traxxas costs not much more than this car, yes it is brushed but it is abzolutely more durable, upgradable and with more option!
I'm glad I spent the extra money for the wr8.
Hoons dboots
2.8 teacher prolines would be perfect actually little smaller but way more aggressive, little expensive I had to buy 17mm adapters so 120 bucks little small on 8th scales but perfect for this guy I run them on 6s typhon sometimes for high-speed.
It's in that borderline between looking like a rally car and a SUV family car.. It's weird.
UH? My bearings on my slash are none of the 2 you are talking about. I think you forgot the 3erd kind of bearings, the ones with the blue plastic seals!!!!!!!
Did you watch the vid? I put a pic of blue rubber sealed bearings on the screen 😂
Great shakedown on this one! Still, like you said , there is much to like! Also like you said, the after market could fix any concerning issues. Reinforced bodies, tires and wheels, is not much to ask? Come on aftermarket! 🫵😃👊🏼
Lets hope we see some nice upgrades in the future! Thanks bro!!
The proline trenchers...would be perfect size , one of best wheels I own but little small for 8th scales , there little bigger than hoons I was going put em on 7th scale arrms for rally truck
