Sir, I know I am years late but I have a dad who is not a great father figure and I just wanted to say thank you, thank you so much! My dad has never said I am proud of you to me and this, this has made my day, thank you so much
I feel mostly the same but I can't really blame my dad because he grew up with one that wasn't the best but I know my dad is doing the best he can to make me happy he just doesn't know how to ask me how I am or how to say he's proud of me. Sometimea I'll come back here when I'm in a bad place mentally to know what it's like to have a dad that asks me how I'm doing so I can make sure my future kids are happier.

My ex-husband was as hypercritical & verbally violent towards me as my bio dad & mom, but he added disrespect to the mix. Physical violence started after my sons were grown & gone. Had I stayed, I would be unalive & would’ve missed wonderful events in my sons’ lives. Grateful!

Thanks for being everyone's Dad. Mine decided he didn't want anything to do with me because I couldn't be who he wanted. Thank you for telling people to put themselves out there and do the things they're wanting to do but are nervous about. It was hard to go against expectations, stand up for the people I care about after they were talked about so poorly, and suffer the consequence of being disowned, but I am my own person. He departed this world about a month ago with only one person still calling himself his friend, that friend a more patient and loving person than anyone I've known (and even he was getting sick of my father near the end!). Thanks for supporting those who have little or no support left. They need it.

Bless your mom for coaching him. May you recognize that God is your real father, the one who will tell you he’s proud of you as you learn to hear his voice. May you find mentors along the way, and may you eventually (it can take a lifetime!) be able to offer understanding and forgiveness to your dad.
