    This aircraft was actually developed as a low-cost munitions deployment system to be used in asymmetrical warfare situations like Afghanistan, South America, or Lebanon where blufor has basically unchallenged air superiority. It has a relatively small radar cross section and a low IR signature making it harder to target with many SA manpads or AAA and the TPOD used on this aircraft also makes it a realistic platform for surveillance and precision strike.

      There really is a lot to like about the Super Tucano! I spoke to the Tucano rep at the Royal International Air Tattoo (2017), he said they were specifically targeting larger air-forces (in particular the RAF, hence their large presence at RIAT) which didn't have dedicated CAS aircraft. To be honest, It could be a worthy investment - we already use the licence-built Short Tucano so skills would be transferable and we could still use the Super Tucano for training. The concept was considered sometime in the early 2000s(?) to arm Short Tucanos with hardpoints, ultimately it was rejected due to cost, but the benefits of turbo-prop CAS aircraft really do make it an attractive idea.

    Inertial Separator is a protective screen to keep FOD out of the engine intake system. When taxiing or taking off from unimproved surfaces, you want it on for sure. Sometimes checklists will call for it on during takeoff til you reach a certain altitude or power setting then turn it off to remove the restriction in the intake.

    The Super Tucano is an excellent special missions aircraft. Where an expensive and large jet is not needed, the Super Tucano and the Beechcraft competitor is made with mission specific cost effective solutions are needed. The Super Tucano and the new Beechcraft Texan is a very cool selection. For Grim Reapers, it really means, hey watch this!

    • @rafaelschipiura9865
      @rafaelschipiura9865 Před 3 lety +4

      The Super Tucano is made specifically for this mission. The Texan is an adapted trainer. The Brazilian Air Force evaluated adapted trainers as light attack aircraft in the 90s and found it wasn't enough. I don't mean to say an adapted trainer can't ever fill this role, just that it's not as easy as it seems. I haven't seen any proposals to develop a plane from the ground up like Embraer did to compete for this role, so to me it seems unlikely that the A-29 could lose it's place as the best light attack aircraft available.
      The most important figure for a light attack aircraft for specials operations support is it's efficiency, to increase the loitering time, or time on station. Yes, the A-29 has a weak engine for a military aircraft. But it's super efficient and allows for up to 6 hours loitering above an operation theater. That's a game changer for special operations. Again, 6 hours.
      It can also take off from much more rugged airfields compared to the A-10, increasing it's capabilities to be close to the fight when it matters most and keeping the pressure. It's not just about poor countries and as a complement to a fighter/attack aircraft. It can be useful even for an airforce that has the A-10 available.

    • @PatrickRatman
      @PatrickRatman Před 3 lety +14

      i mean the A-10c isn't really any much better in uncontested airspace. the difference being the a-29b is $19,000 dollars cheaper than the a-10c to fly, has a smaller radar cross section and costs less to replace in the case of a shootdown incident. And since you would only be using this in sort of ambush attacks against low end AAA systems and cheap ass tanks its the perfect weapon when the enemy is just a bunch of guerilla army bois with low end equipment.

    Inrt sep I believe is for the inertial separator. Its a feature of the PT-6 motor. In short if the switch is on a vent opens up that will cause anything with mass to not enter the motor (ice, FOD). When off all the air and whatever it carriers will be carried into the compressor section of the motor. You will see this commonly on when on the ground and landing/takeoff and also when icing is probable. (Ito21)

    • @ionator2000ist
      @ionator2000ist Před 3 lety +4

      @@twotailedavenger sort of I guess. The difference here is that it's not pulling the air from a different source. Since the motor is setup to where the compressor is in the back and exhaust is in the front, the intake travels kind of parallel with the motor till making a sharp near 90 degree turn into the compressor. The inertial seperator is right at that bend. When it open air and objects with significant enough mass will go out of the intake instead of the 90 degree turn up to the compressor. You do lose some power as now not all the air is coming to the motor itself but it does prevent you from fodding out your motor easily.

    When I flew the Pilatus PC-12, the Inertial separator was a small flap at the end of the air intake under the engine. The idea was as incoming air made a 90 degree turn into the engine, any gravel or dirt would not be able to make the turn and be ejected out of the flap. We used this whenever flying on unprepared fields. Very common feature on the PW PT-6 engine.

    @10:45 To my knowledge that is the inertial separator. When flying through heavy rain or ice the inertial separator is left in the open position, the result being a slightly lower ITT because airflow is less efficient but large amounts of water, ice, and debris are directed away from the turbine air inlet via inertia. When closed, ITT will rise. In DCS I can't imagine it being much of a factor.

    Very excited to see the A-29B in a DCS. I'm looking forward to see the development of it. So in order to help you with the development and so you can adjust these problems I have been looking some bug issues and performance issues that can be corrected as they are:
    1. The CCIP bomb fall line and the pipper are not being showed in some cases, eventough the mass knob is set to live and have bombs selected in the SMS. Also sometimes the bomb fall line is going up and disappearing and this happens a lot when the aircraft is induced with negative G's so in order to have the bomb fall line again you have to put max positive G's. And when this happes usually the bomb fall line gets misconfigured and you have to reset the mission.
    2. The performance is very high, normaly the supertucano in a 3xMk-82 and and 2xfull tanks configuration it can't get more than 240knots GS, and for the CCIP targeting I see that the reticle or pipper is being available to do the pipper with a speed of 320knots and a 25° dive, this is this is the speed limit without external stores, and with external stores it is 280knots, so in order to improve these shooting parameters the reticle must be available in within a speed range of 180 knots and 240knots with a 20° to 30° dive, and that would be awesome to be corrected.
    3. There are some details that can help to like the availability of the DTK format in the UFCP that can help to make a geometry shot and some things like the warning alarms on the decision height. The time format can also be usefull for the bombing times as also the OAP format to make an Offset Aiming Point.
    I have more details that you can correct but it's up to you if you wanna know what else I have in mind, I don't wanna really bother you. So if you can correct these items I just mentioned, it would be perfect, take it as a recommendation.
    I really encourge ou to continue with the devolpment of this MOD and I also congratulate you of being the first ones to take the innitiative to make this happen. Thank you.

    Well this is going to put a real dent in Razbam's A-29 sales... Lmao This is really an incredibly detailed aircraft maybe this team should apply to take over Razbam's license for the Super Tucano as I don't see them doing anything with it in the next five to ten years. It's really cool seeing all the mod's that people are coming out with over the last year!

      @getsideways7257 Před 3 lety

      @@grimreapers But you shouldn't forget that creating a professional grade prop plane FM is an extremely complex undertaking and there is no ready made template for that either (as in case of jet planes). There is a chance that RAZBAM had put it aside for exactly that reason.
      Then again, if you are ok with a BET style flight model like something you can find in IL-2 or X-Plane, that could be put together much quicker, but it wouldn't be all that much better than SFM...

      @@getsideways7257 On the other hand, there are at least two A-29 pilots helping the Brazilian modders (just that I saw on the comments of this video), which should be at least a strong boost for the mod.

      @getsideways7257 Před 3 lety

      @@rafaelschipiura9865 I'd prefer a couple of MIT graduates over some plane drivers, if I'm honest. After all, real flying doesn't transfer all too well into the sim world, so with pilots already being very subjective, listening to their opinion on a flight model could prove disastrous. Especially if that opinion is not taken with a grain of salt (and if it is, they might take the doubt as a personal insult).

    Cheap and worthy substitute for A-10, to cover ground troops.

    • @rafaelschipiura9865
      @rafaelschipiura9865 Před 3 lety

      Depending on the scenario it's more capable than the A-10. Of course, not everywhere. I have seen USAF special operations officers describe this plane as a 'game changer' because of it's incredible efficiency, which allows for 6 hours loitering time. This means that the plane is already there when spec ops need it instead of having a waiting time. Already being there hen needed covers the downsides of the design which is the lower speed due to the prop and low power for a military aircraft. The overall design also includes taking off closer to the target because of the short and rugged airfield requirements.
