3 seasons in cup is MORE than enough time to see if someone has what it takes. They all have the same car parts from the same single source manufacturers. Was he "rushed?" Yes. After 3 years, are we going to be confident he simply isn't good enough and was never going to be good enough to succeed here? Also yes.

I’ve been a fan of Harrison for years and I think the main issue was that he was rushed to Cup. Yes he won 4 times in his rookie Xfinity season, but he didn’t make it past the first round of the playoffs, and then he went winless in 2021. Yes, Keselowski jumping ship to Roush forced Penske to change their plans for Cindric, but they could’ve easily kept Matty D in the 21 car. What a lot of people seem to forget is that the 21 is essentially a fourth Penske car, so it should easily be running in the Top 15 every week. I hope that if Harrison is kicked to the curb in favor of more than likely Briscoe, as that’s the big rumor right now, he pulls a John Hunter and goes back down to either Xfinity or Trucks to rebuild his career. He has talent, and he’s still pretty young, same age as me, so there’s plenty of time for him to earn his way back to Cup should he go that route.

I can almost guarantee people will be disappointed by this time next year when whoever is in the car is just as bad or only slightly better than Harrison is right now. And he showed some skills at New Hampshire a couple days ago, only 14th or so, but he was running a good bit in the top 10, last restart hurt him. He would lose some spots each restart but then get some back, was an all around decent weekend for him and the team. I hope he gets some time in Xfinity to build his reputation again.

Your point at around 3:26 is interesting.
I’ve beefed watching since 2007-2008, my driver my whole life was Jeff Gordon up until he retired then I moved onto being a Larson fan.
Going from having a breakout year to winless seasons to not being in NASCAR to winning a championship and being a championship contender really made me appreciate the struggle that being a Larson fan was from 2016-2020.
Since 2021 it’s been pretty fun to be a Larson fan, guy is a contender every week and wins a ton and I’m loving it.
Honestly assuming that Burton is done, I’d recommend rooting for someone who has the talent for a championship but doesn’t currently have the car and might not have a win yet.
Shit really makes you appreciate the process of going from struggling for wins to winning championships.
I literally went from arguing with people about why Larson is a championship caliber driver and why CGR was ass to seeing that I was correct and everyone claiming that Larson was just a middle of the road driver from 2016-2020 was wrong.

      @joshuapittman4663 Před 2 měsíci

@@HappyKarl095 yeah, I was already taking a liking to Larson and had decided that he would be my driver after Gordon during his rookie season. I didn’t start actively rooting for him until Gordon retired.
I mean you could tell that the guy was special after that rookie season if you were paying attention, but for some reason he had doubters even during that 2021 season where he was borderline unbeatable. Heck I had a guy tell me that he wasn’t anything more than a Dale Earnhardt Jr type driver a couple days ago which completely blew my mind that someone could still think that he’s not capable of a Kyle Busch type career.
Like I feel like if he was at HMS from 2014-present, he would’ve had multiple championships by now since he really meshed with the gen 6 car and is just now starting to really look amazing in the gen 7.

i grew up a jeff burton fan. since the 90s. after he retired i didnt watch that much. about 4/5 years ago i saw harrison in the xfinity series and it sparked my interest again. I am a burton fan. while he has sucked, you hit on it, i feel like half the wreaks he gets in aren't his fault and he's in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope he can get it together and remain in cup

If Burton comments on this and was like sorry for letting my fans and Wood Brothers down that would be kinda cool. Hopefully things look brighter in Burton future still believe he can win a Cup race someday. Maybe he should try to getting into RCR and drive the 31 number just like his Father could help.

IMO Burton is a physical representation of what’s wrong with the driver market in modern NASCAR. He has the ride because of the money he brings, and he held that ride because DEX was flipping the bills. I want to see a business model where teams can actually hire the best driver for the job instead of which brand can pay for a driver to be in a seat. It’s holding the sport back, especially for drivers in the development pipelines.

Does he have plans to race in Xfinity next year? I hope he sticks around and maybe makes another attempt in cup in a few years. Kinda like JH Nemechek did when he was unsuccessful his first time in the cup series (although he’s not doing much better this year either).

As a fan who's favorite was Kyle Petty growing up. I can tell you there is few high's better than seeing your driver who has been mired in half dead teams pull off an upset and end up in the top 5.
I think right now the whole of Penske and it's affiliate Wood Bros are having a very unsettled couple of seasons that are not helping Harrison broadcast his talents.
Championships being an absolute farce now, Ryan Blaney won with the 6th most points last year with Lagano 13th and Cindric 24th. It's only fitting the affiliate team shouldn't put together an effort that doesn't match the main team. And outside of Cindric's shock win for the second time in 3 years. Blaney and Lagano are not comfortable looking at a playoff entry with 10 races to go.
I think if Harrison either finds his way to the Gibbs organization again or another more settled team he could put together what the car is worth. Otherwise I will say that the ARCA front runners are a great place to look for future drivers to support.

There's literally ZERO reason to bring up point standings in modern day Nascar. Yes, Blaney finished 6th in points. However, he was never going to win a championship by finishing first in points, so why bother? Nascar teams try to maximize playoff points and wins and are better off taking a 50/50 chance at 1st/DNF than they are taking a top 5 at the end of the day. They make several decisions throughout the entire season, every race acknowledging that points won't win a championship. Yapping on about where someone finishes point wise doesn't matter because the teams aren't concerned about total points.
The 08 Giants won the super bowl with a 12-8 record after winning the super bowl. You don't win the super bowl by winning the most games. You win the super bowl by winning when it matters the most. Nascar fans love to shit on the playoff format but they give every other league a pass when they have playoffs. Current Nascar system is fair. Whoever wins it, deserved to win it.
