      It's kinda like PC tech youtubers, most of them get the product before it's actually released so they can record their review and usually the company will have them sign an NDA Agreement and as soon as the NDA is over (usually when the product is released, or a few day before) they're allowed to post their review on it.

    Hey Glen great demo. One observation is the guitar tone in the last few videos has been, well, rather neutered sounding. It's also in mono. I'm listening on a set of high end headphones and it's just thin and kind of spitty. After listening to a bunch of Uberschall module demos this morning, your's was kind of underwelming on the recorded guitar sound. In your home studio the tones were always great and accurate. In this new studio things seem to be too sterile. Sterility does not necessarily equal a good representation of the sound of the amp. I know it's youtube and it's always very difficult to capture the real sound of the amp. Take a listen to Rabea's demo of the Bogner modules from earlier today. That is the kind of recorded sound you want to strive for on a demo video.

    • @SpectreSoundStudios
      @SpectreSoundStudios  Před 4 lety +4

      Hey Colin, thanks for the constructive criticism. I try to show what the Amp sounds like on its own, without any reverb or other processing. Hence the mono signal. I’m genuinely curious... are you looking for a processed tone, or what it really sounds like? Processing is in the full mix.... which I was quite happy with.

    • @colinmcdonald7591
      @colinmcdonald7591 Před 4 lety +1

      I prefer a small amount of processing such as a small room effect and perhaps a small bit of compression. No EQ or tonal processing. The reason being is that if I were playing the amp in my rehearsal space, there would be room reflections and my ears would provide some amount of natural compression at louder volumes. Making the sound slightly more realistic goes a long way and it doesn't have to effect the tone or over all sound/feel of the amp. Either way keep on doing what you do I for one really appreciate it!

    I think we are actually seeing the future here, by that I mean - this kind of easy modding of an amplifier, at least from my perspective.
    One week you might have a 'great pay show' with a wedding band, next week a gig with a "insert band name" tribute band and you can easily change how your amp sounds, behave, all in one.

    I have a Randall RM100 and was thinking of doing a Yuneo mod so it can accommodate Synergy preamps. But my major question for Synergy amp owners is, for amp models that have saggy low end (i.e. Bogner Uberschall, Diezel VH4, Mesa Dual Rectifier, Friedman BE100) do the Synergy modules measure up to the real amps in the sag/spongy department?

  • @ravenslaves
    @ravenslaves Před 4 lety +1

    Love it or hate it, here's the reason you may not one of these.
    It's modular. Old idea. Great idea. Seldom works out in the long term.
    because...
    Modular parts wear out faster. Even leaving them in and never changing them, they will wear out. Those connections will come loose and you'll spend your time and money trying to get them not to sound like crap. For most components, a little age can yield some wonderful results. Be it a tube or capacitor, a subtle change in value can mean tonal bliss.
    This does not apply to connections.
    Unless you like the idea of a random kill switch or maybe a small fire from time to time. A smoking amp is seldom fun.
    ...And once the company stops supporting the amp...
    Then it's days are numbered in a bad way and you'll soon be shopping for a new amp as this amp will be propping a door open in your basement.
    ...If you really need this amp. If you just love it more than puppies. Then set it in one spot and _never_ move it. That should double its lifespan...as short as it may be. There's a reason you don't see many modular amps around. Some of them were classic, great, iconic...and all of them short lived.

      @@notsure1135 Symour Duncan made a great amp called the "Convertible" back in the 80's. Same idea, great amp. David Gilmour used one on "A Momentary Laps of Reason" album. The Studios loved them because they were so versatile. But the problems were the same. And like a computer that's no longer supported, it's shelf life was severely limited.

    Hey, Glenn! I've been thinking about getting the SYN-50 and had a question that you might be able to answer. It's kinda a deal breaker for me. So, on the Bugera infinium amps, they auto-bias the tubes in both the power section and preamp section, meaning you can literally throw in mis-matched tubes and it brings maintenance costs down because it doesn't really have to be serviced by a professional. On Sweetwater, their description of the SYN-50 says quote " *The amp automatically adjusts its cathode biasing circuitry for you.* " Do you know if these amps auto-bias **all** of the tubes, or just the preamp tubes and not the power section? Thank you SO much! Because if the power section still needs professional maintenance, it may be too expensive for me.

    • @Dougal78

    • @Dougal78
      @Dougal78 Před 4 lety +1

      JETGuitars I don’t think you can even buy matched pre amp tubes. It just isn’t a thing.
      Phase inverters can often be bought ‘balanced’ so the two halves of the tube offer equal amplification.

    • @JETGuitars
      @JETGuitars Před 4 lety

      I know they do sell them, because I've bought 3 J/J 12ax7s that were "supposed" To be a matched set, but it may have not been completely true. Could have just been a selling point to an inexperienced person like me that didn't know any better.

    • @Dougal78
      @Dougal78 Před 4 lety +1

      JETGuitars yeah as far as guitar amps go, there’s no reason for matched pre amp tubes. Some places do sometimes use ‘matched’ and ‘balanced’ interchangeably. Only the phase inverter gets benefit from being balanced, where the two halves of the tube are ‘matched’ or balanced. Generally each other pre amp valve has each half of it doing different things - one half might be a gain stage, the other reverb send, reverb recovery, etc. So there’s just no need for them to be balanced or matched against one another.

    In the "how does it sound in a mix - section you only hear every second tone of the bass, due to sloppy alternate picking.
    This is why there fucking is a urgent need for bassplayers who are able to play their instrument.
