I unwilling think of that happening when I close my eyes. I’m able to stop those thoughts nowadays but I always have trouble with closing my eyes in the shower/water.
If it makes you feel any better, the water pressure would cause you to emplode before you could even perceive being teleported.

weird ocean shit has been one of my special interests since I was a little kid. This video covered a lot of weird guys™️, but not all of them. Here’s some Friends if bizarre ocean creatures interest you:
-giant siphonophores + pyrosome worms (big ol Mass of single cell organisms clumped together. they also vary from “pool noodle” to “bloodborne boss” in appearance)
-Valonia ventricosa/bubble algae (a single cell organism that grows to 2 inches long)
-Pompeii worms (random fuzzy worm things that can also tolerate heat up to 131 degrees)
-life around hydrothermal vents in general is insane
-they aren’t THAT weird but mola mola/sunfish are hilariously bad at life. They basically constantly have severe skin parasites so they swim up to the surface to burn them off in the sun, where they are pecked at by seagulls and predators. Scientists don’t really know how they swim because their fins suck so bad. Seals will literally throw them for fun. They have killed human beings by randomly jumping out of the water and landing on them.
i've never heard of mola mola before and after googling it i'm laughing omg what an absurd creature! and it's HUGEEEE like 3 meters in length?? what???

We covered a unit about sea worms living near or inside hydrothermal vents and their life styles are insane
Mola mola will also leap out of the water so high that they will die on impact when they land. Probably why they lay SO many eggs. Some of them HAVE to survive right? 😂

I feel like the eel entry might be referring to how little we know about eels mating. IIRC only recently did we have any kind of breakthroughs on eels mating, since their mating habits had been entirely unseen and unknown for all of recorded history.

Nah, they're just the new Tier List. And a lot of them are really bland and samey, with theory-heavy entries usually being thrown in at the top, when really it's more fitting to be lower in the iceberg.

if you play the Bloop (and most other underwater sounds) at normal speed, it sounds similar to glacial activity (or possibly tectonic plates shifting). Always think it's kinda funny how everyone ignores that part.
I agree, but it’s way more fun to imagine it’s an undiscovered creature. And I do find it interesting not every sound is the same, and I like the ones that change over time and are reoccurring

Thanks for pointing out that Atlantis originates in Plato and was most likely an allegory. Too many folks just vaguely refer to Ancient Greek legends and miss out the context.
It's not like there haven't been islands in the Mediterranean that sunk due to plate tectonics or whatever either. Major regional events like that stay in cultural memory and inspire myths, which are often allegories in a memorable form.
Just ranting at this point so anyway, great work reminding me of my thalassophobia.
Plato heard the story from ancient people's living in the area of Egypt. It coincided with a tale of a great flood. The ancients did not speak of it as an allegory but as a fact.

Is it kinda weird that I'm not thalassophobic? The only things I'm scared of about the ocean are drowning, being away from civilization, and the deep part of it, like the Mariana Trench. But other than that, I'm just fascinated by it. I guess all the sea blorbos keep me distracted from the real terrors of the ocean.
Honestly, it's my favorite video of your channel so far. I love how you explain things simply, so your videos are easy to watch and actually that pushes us, viewers to document ourselves even more behind when a subject really interests us.
35:54 This entry is 100% referring to the bowhead whale, which are believe to live over 200 years, this would mean they have the longest lifespan of any known species of mammal. I just really felt the need to point that out because what does Brasilodon have anything to do with the ocean? Otherwise, great video!

Yep, pretty sure that's what this one is referring to. Bowhead whales are awesome and we have no idea how long they can actually live, but it appears to be more than 200 years (hence the mystery I guess)

Interesting timing with the recent submarine thing.
The reason there's an entry for eels on here totally has to do with the fact that we didn't know how eels reproduced for the longest time. I don't think I can do the topic justice, but there's neat videos that go in depth (haha) about the topic.
This also ties into the theory of the loch ness monster, as it's possible that some freshwater eels will stay inland while the rest of their kind goes out to sea to spawn and die. This would leave sterile eels that have more time to get bigger, though they're not 60 foot giants or something crazy like that.

A fascinating and informative video, I will never tire of ocean mysteries and phenomena! I do have to say that saying "no human has ever even gotten close to reaching the bottom (of the Mariana Trench)" is pretty incorrect: Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh visited Challenger Deep all the way back in 1960 and James Cameron the movie guy has been there on a solo dive in 2012. It's insane how few manned or even unmanned ships that have been down there, there is so much we don't know...
I think what everyone ignores about these "alien noises" is that THEYRE SPED UP 20X
the audio clips hit a lot different at their actua speeds. it frustrates me that they're sped up to save time and garner interest, because it winds up misleading

For me personally what gets me going with submechanophobia is underwater animatronics, good condition or bad. One of the most terrifying things I can think of is swimming in the Disneyland lagoon or falling out of the jungle cruise by an animatronic

I think the Eels entry refers to how no one knows how or where eels reproduce. Theres a lot of theories but theres still a lot of debate of how they reproduce

Speaking of eels, anytime i wanted to go swimming in Parramatta river, my dad would tell me in the 70's and 80's when he would go swimming in there, there were hundreds of eels swimming around with him and would constantly bite him on the toe. Always scared me out of swimming in it lmao

35:00 they have video now of that thing actively fishing and it can whip all those tentacles around like some kind of flail that double as a cage. It's pretty wild to see and happens in the blink of an eye...much more agile than scientists previously believed

Me personally I'm not scared of the ocean, more intrigued by how mysterious it is for how much it makes up our planet. And ngl this only really intrugued my interest of the ocean and its mysteries.
And off topic but fun fact, my home country of Malta is considered a possible location of Atlantis or at least remnants of Atlantis due to the country having some of the oldest man made structures in the world.

I think what the iceberg meant by "Oldest Mammal" was the Bowhead Whale, since it's the longest-living mammal, living up to 200 years, and not the ancient mammal species that feels out of place in the iceberg.

I find everyday items in the ocean fascinating but not scary. My mind is definitely drawn to them
It baffles me that so much of humanity is intensely obsessed with looking for life on other planets when there is so much life we know exists here on Earth that we haven't even begun to look into. As cool as space is, for all intents and purposes, the bed of the ocean is a much more practical place to explore.

I learned to snorkel when I was 8 or 9 (not long after the original Little Mermaid came out lol) and my parents had a hard time getting me to come out of the water. Even on the coast of Maine, it is so beautiful down there, all shades of blue and green and silver. And needless to say, I was on Sebastian's side about being Under the Sea

The ocean is a mystery place and it’s pretty scary because we don’t know what’s down there in the deep dark ocean
