M is a 1931 German film directed by legendary filmmaker Fritz Lang and written by Lang and Thea von Harbou. It stars Peter Lorre as a child murderer and is one of the most important films in cinema history.
    I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

The final scene I think is the greatest message against revenge ever staged: with an improvised "trial" Lang totally subverts our point of view making us feel sorry for this murderer (masterful interpretation of Lorre) and showing hypocrisy of the common criminal. It is thanks to this masterpiece that I understood how more dangerous is the one who chooses crime as a profession by killing with clarity, as if it were a job like any other, rather than the crazy psychopath who is forced by his nature to kill and does it with enthusiasm.
What can I say, I think your channel is the only American competent on cinema that I have seen: all the others are too busy talking about the film of the moment saying absolute banalities, instead you are very competent (even if I admit I do not share some opinions , like those on Endgame and Black Panther, but it is normal to have different opinions when it comes to cinema).
Could I ask you for a video on Italian cinema?

I actually just started working on an Italian cinema video! Might take me a while though as there's a lot there.

Great review of a great film. You're correct about Lorre's inverting how his character is viewed in the "trial" scene, how could we see a child-molester/murder as a sympathetic character? It's a deeply human look at the story.

as a German myself what I find most fascinating is that this is a German film produced just before creating art that states the unconditional human dignity even under these extreme circumstances was prohibited; this movie already provides the antidote to everything that would ensue in Germany in the following years... I realised when this was produced only after I just finished watching this film and I felt like it enriched the watching experience even more in hindsight.. I cried even though the film was already over because of the realization of the power of art and that there were so many people even in those darkest of times that had deeply understood what it means to love not only neighboor but enemy for the simple sake of us all being human and having been given eternal dignity

@@kubricklynch I know, right? That's why it's such a delightful surprise when I do come across another channel about silent films. If you don't mind me asking, when were you first interested in silent films?

creep tried to coax my son into his car and I seen it go down from porch window.I tried to catch him and if I caught him i don't know what would have happened as I was consumed with anger.as a parent it's hard to believe that it was happening and the creep grew up across the street from my grandparents.police caught him up the street trying it again and he did a few years in jail.Hard to feel sorry for someone when he's praying on your child.

Yes, but Peter Lorres character at least knows he's sick and a monster and is ashamed of himself at least. There's nothing more infuriating than a smirking, proud-of- themselves killer.
