A Guppy Having Babies

- A very detailed and fact-filled look at a pregnant mother guppy giving birth to 37 babies in a tropical freshwater aquarium.
There is also footage of the cute new born babies eating their first meal of live food. This is the best footage available of a guppy giving birth to her young that has ever been made. It is both entertaining and educational.
The timing of most of the events in a guppy's life is based in part on the water temperature, the water quality, and on the quality and quantity of their food supply. Here are a few rough estimates to help with known when your fish will reach certain milestones in their development.
Length of Pregnancy: 30 days (approx.)
Time Until Babies Get Their Color - males typically start to show some color at about 3 weeks of age, but it will not be until they are about 3 months old before they have all of their color.
Time Until Sexual Maturity - 3 - 5 months

Bobby is very loved by his fans. My wife cried when she watched it for the first time.
Damn that video went from cute to dark real fast!
Life is like that. From cute little kid to grumpy old man in just a few years . . .
The amount of happiness after you see your guppy gave birth was unexplainable.
It’s been two years and this persons still hearting and replying to comments!

Why am i crying about Bobby's short life? idk
It's because you have a good heart. My wife cried the first time she watched it.
Do the rocks hurt them?
Whos Bobby?

Ur crying because u have a loving heart
I clicked on this because I think nature is cool and love seeing animals and educating myself. This video not only fulfilled all expectations but also took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. I love it.
Thank you! I agree nature is cool, and there's always a lot to see and learn. I'm happy to be a part of that. :-)
I totally agree with you. This is one of the best videos out there ❣❤🥰😍
Amei o vídeo, nunca reparei em tantos detalhes 😍
Am I the only one thinking, "I would have totally tried to break the egg sack for little Bobby"?
No, you are not the only one. It would be very difficult to break the egg sack, 5 or 6 little bobbies could fit on a grain of rice! Too tiny to operate . .
You know it's funny. I recently lost my Siamese fighting fish and felt awful...but then I watch these videos and am reminded that things in nature happen that are sad as well...like mom eating baby to spare him from more pain. Not funny in haha...funny as in well just life cycle....thanks for the amazing video.
You're welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your fish. It's always difficult to lose a friend, but as one life ends, another begins. It's an endless cycle that keeps everything in balance. :-)
We started with eight guppies from my kiddo's elementary science class...and now a year later, we have more than 30! I shared your video with my family and EVERYONE was fascinated. It led to a good age appropriate conversation about reproductive biology. Kiddo was a bit sad about little Bobby, but nevertheless, grateful that Ms Wanda allowed us a close-up view of how guppy babies are born.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. I'm beyond thrilled that my work led to a deeper conversation about life. 🙂🎥🐟
I don't know if I am just sensitive or what but I shed a tear because of Little Bobby. May you rest in fishy heaven, Bobby. :')
It's perfectly normal, several people have cried. It means you're a good, caring person. Thank you. . .
You have a white heart.
You have a great camera!!! I saw every little detail so clearly!
Thank you! Such cute little fish.
... how I ended up here I don’t know. But what a fascinating video. Informative and amazingly well captured video and images.
Thank you! I have more high quality videos if you're interested. Are you a fish keeper, or did you just stumble upon this ?
Thanks for this informative and interesting video on fish giving birth.i thought they usually lay eggs and wait for it to hatch.
Thank you. Most fish do lay eggs, but many species also have live birth. Some sharks for instance give birth to live young.
The Dave kool
"He was trapped, alone and probably very scared" **Screen goes black**

I actually laughed really bad, not because it was funny, but because it shocked me lmao.

I don't usually leave comments, but this is by far the best guppy birthing video I've watched, clear pics, straight to the point extremely informative, thank you!

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how hard Wanda and patient Wanda is Bravo! 👏 👏 👏
My eight year old, who dreams to be a Marine Biologist, learned a lot out of this video. Thanks.
You are very welcome ! :-)
Thats the most detailed and informative video I ever seen. About guppy fish birth. RIP Bobby.
Thank you and welcome to "The Dave" :-D
I’ve learned more from this one video than any other part of the internet. Thanks for the video! Rest in peace, little Bobby!!!!
This is so fascinating! Good job! Poor little bobby😭

We're all eaten by something. . . eventually. :-)
finally an informative video without annoying music background👍. thank you very much!
Your photography is amazing! As good as anything I've seen on NG. RIP little Bobby.
Thank you very much!
This takes me back to having my own 2 children, being a stay at home mom, being bipolar, with anxiety and panic attacks having my fish tanks was my non- pharmaceutical way to tranquility! I became successful in breeding fish even Angel fish but never accomplishing any fry. as the female decides if the male will be a good daddy she will not eat the eggs if he's not daddy of the year she will eat the eggs, but I miss having my tanks and 1 day will have them again they helped greatly with the problems of my mental health issues thanks for letting us experience your experience!
Thanks for watching the video. One of my favorite ways to relax is to get lost in the beauty and tranquility of an aquarium. Water is a humble spirit that calms the restless mind . . . Similar to the way water fights fire. :-)
Thank you for this clip. Now I know how my guppies babies came about. One day I just noticed baby fish out of nowhere 😆
Life is a miracle . . .
I laughed so hard at 4:57 when the mother just b*tch slapped her baby away from her 😂😂😂😂😂
Rip little bobby 😭
I hope my guppies have babies one day
Oh, they will. . .
Zandalee Bimrose they will just add male and females and they’ll do the rest, heck you can even buy a pregnant female guppy
They did. I have 5 little babies 😊
Beautiful nature.
Your patience to capture this moment is really admirable

I subbed after this video!
Uuuugh. RIP little Bobby. I cried.
Many people have cried. it's a good thing! It just means that we're not dead inside. :-)
I wonder if little Bobby could have been saved? To externally open the egg membrane. Not sure if this could have been done in a way that wouldn’t stress the others
Hi, thanks for watching the video! Little bobby was very tiny, in fact, 5 of him could fit on a grain of rice. Cutting him out of the egg membrane would have been very risky. I made a special video that looks at this issue. Please check it out and tell me if you think I did the right thing. czcams.com/video/cMw2VyFsqCc/video.html
@@TheDave333 I knew they were tiny, but didnt really understand the magnitude until I saw the needle tip looking so dull under magnification in the linked video. I hope my original comment did not come off as being judgmental! Poor Bobby couldnt survive because there was something wrong with him, and that is how nature works. Regardless, it was interesting to see that we could actually help them out.
@ PegLegGreg No worries! Your comment did not seem judgmental at all. The video is sad, and it does make some people cry. My wife cried the first time she watched it!!! Human emotions always complicate the picture, and nature works, so well because she's indifferent. :-)
My guppy gave birth yesterday. Now i have 15 tiny guppies
That is awesome! Best of luck with the new guppy family. :-)
The whole time, I was thinking "come on, momma. Come on, momma. You can do it, I know, it hurts. Come on, momma."

beautiful..i have 4 guppies and breefed 20 embreyos but due to other fishes all are not seen now.i have only one tank.
Thank you for watching the video. If you add aquatic plants (real or artificial) to the tank, more babies will survive. Plants that float at the surface are especially helpful. Have a beautiful day . . . :-)
Beautifully made video. Reflects the struggle of life of every creature in this world. The efforts made by the video maker is appreciable. Informative and educative. Heart goes to bobby who couldn’t join his brothers and sisters..

The Dave Exactly!
wow the attention to detail is really cool
thank you. Details are important !
Great video, my two guppies are almost ready to birth. I originally got what I thought were 3 males, as the tank at the aquarium shop said they were male guppies but 2 of them ended up getting very pregnant. So I"ve been scouring the CZcams for information on how to care for fry. This is so far the best I've seen of the birthing process and I'll search your channel for care if you have it!! RIP little Bobby.
I have several guppy videos that will be very helpful.
I'm a guppy lover for over 6 years now, and have watched several guppy momma's giving birth. Today I was blessed to see my 1 yr old girl give birth for the first time, and it will always hold a special place in my heart! From what I could see, most of the fry looks very healthy and mom was doing the greatest job. Nature can be crazy but yet so beautiful.
Thank you for making this gorgeous video, and my heart goes out to little Bobby. It's always sad when a baby won't make it. I'm glad the fry is doing good though, and your guppy girl did an amazing job! Whishing you and your guppy family many years of health and luck xo
Thank you so much, and congratulations on witnessing one of the more rewarding parts of keeping these beautiful fish. Lucky you! :-D

Thank you for watching the video. I think that nature is cool too. I always learn something new by sitting still and observing how things work. I have many many more videos, that are even better than this one. Please take a look. :-)

That's what make it memorable. !!!

Did that one's tail get cut off?
That particular baby was still curled up into a ball when it came out of it mother. It looks like it was still partially enclosed in the egg membrane.
Sadly my females only give birth to a handful of babies. Nothing like when I used to keep them years ago and I'd get 40-50 fry. However I haven't witnessed the babies being born in this guppy tank I have now. Perhaps I need to add some live plants, especially floating ones where they can hide. Although I have yet to witness any fry being devoured it would make the babies feel more secure.
Thanks for watching my videos! Yes, floating plants will really help. :-)
Thanks for the amazing video. I have a fish tank with 4 adult guppies (I think only one male left) 3 Neon tetras (all that are left from 17 that I bought three years ago) 3 yoyo loaches.
In all these years I had not seen my guppies giving birth. I just assumed that the yoyos ate all the fry. To my amazement, a couple of weeks ago I noticed a fry. At first I didn't think he would make it beyond few hours. But it's been many days since, and he has grown a lot. The adult guppies are no longer a danger for him, and he spends most of the time near the surface (so the yoyos can't get him either).
Yesterday morning I noticed a new very young fry. I was excited about him, but after an hour I couldn't find him any longer. And now after watching this video I find out that they usually give birth to at least 20! do you think they were all eaten? the tank is heavily plantated, so I wonder if some might be hiding there?
Hello and thanks for watching the video. There are several possibilities. . . Since the tank is heavily planted, I am assuming that the fry have plenty of places to hide. (Plants near the surface are the most helpful, because baby guppies like to hide near the surface.) So, the adult guppies are probably not eating them. I'm not sure about the loaches, though they don't seem fast enough to catch guppy fry.
If you have a hang-on-back filter the fry might be getting sucked into the filter through the filter intake. If you don't have an intake sponge filter over the intake pipe, then that might be where all of the babies are going. Check the filter reservoir at the back of the tank. Some of the fry may have survived. As a quick fix for the problem, you can put a piece of nylon pantyhose over the intake pipe to keep the fry out of the filter.
Here's another possibility you may want to consider.
