    My 69 Sandcast was owned and ridden by me for 10 years. Of course I did a lot of normal riding on it but after about 57,000 miles I built that motor with R.C.Engineeing parts. Forged 836 cc Venolia pisons, R.C. 315 cam, light weight alternator which eliminated the electric starter, after market R.C. Rods, CB500 4 swing arm which was an inch longer, 630 pitch chain, moly cylinder studs, Roto phaze distributor ignition and many other goodies. I ran the piss out of that bike on hundreds of occasions. Big time hole shots followed by wide open throttle power shifts were very common. Never broke the motor or anything else. That motor was in my opinion indestructable. Now and then I'd miss a power shift at 9 grand on the tack and send that motor into the stratosphere rpm wise, never broke it or send a chain into the cases. I once read years ago that the Japanese knew American's were animals on bikes so they built them to take it.

    I owned a 69 K0, not sure if it was sandcast or not, but it was far from fragile. I thrashed the hell out of it and did over 120 thousand miles and then sold it still running perfectly. We used to joke about the red line and reaconed it was safe if you kept the revs on the other side of the red wedge. Did a 500km trip with the bike almost in or above the red line the whole way. Even towed a small car up a hill once. The gearbox was not too great, replaced the 2nd gear a few times and snapped the drive chain twice. Best bike I ever owned, what character! Handled like a dog and used to snake in corners, but never got out of hand, always predictable. I would have married it if it were possible. I would trade my soul today for one.

    I appreciate the informative and honest yet concise presentation. No more of the "oh yes. These bikes are absolutely lovely and remarkably persistent in making you feel like the bike is from the present era." No. They are old bikes that may break and should be appreciated for what they are yet impressive to come from the era that they did. Well done, sirs. Thumbs up.

    Ive had red 1970 K0 die cast genuine UK bike for 40 years! done 82,000 miles on it it flies. Liked it so much I bought a US K0 die cast 1970 orange one genuine 14,000 miles stripped an rebuilt it and the engine was spot on (rubber parts, rings, clutch plates, cam chain, primary chains replaced for caution) its a genuine 125mph machine not bad for 50 year old bikes. I would not describe the CB750 sohc as fragile, far from it...but change that oil every 2,000 miles maybe its the die cast ones that are stronger in which case ive the right bikes as i use them, not bothered about the investment side but guess they will never loose I just like the looks and sound (fitted one of carpys floating discs, they work OK but brakes need care)

    In 1990 a Honda shop was closing, and the owner put his private collection on the showroom floor; there was a 1969 sand cast for about 5K with no miles on it. Thought about it for a bit but passed; now it's come back to haunt me.

    I had the exact color on my CB 750 I bought in 1970 for $1495.00 while in Germany! I loved the bike, rode it clear across the states. Sold it , then bought another one in 1972.

    There was definitely a golden era of beautiful design + useful things such this lovely motorcycle, they weren't only awesome mechanical machines by their time and also something that still being quite appreciated 'till this days. They were really something special for many things that make fair them to be precious pieces of history.

    I'm pretty sure mine was £800 on the road brand new and when I was sorting out the finance the motorcycle garage the girl said god it's just like taking on a mortgage because you can buy a house then for £2,000 it was the best bike I ever had I used to fall off at the traffic lights because couldn't reach the floor because of the wide seat if I see anybody riding one now I feel jealous because I would love to own one again even if I didn't ride it beautiful bike.

    Before the CB 750 was released you only needed a map of the city. If you bought one you needed a map of your country.

    You can watch a pristine sand cast ( crinkle tank ) get cut up and turned into a mono shock cafe racer on the American series Cafe Racer.

    I had 2 of these in the 70's. I took the 2nd one to St Tropez in 77. Traded in a Commando to get the first one and sold a Z900 to buy the 2nd one. I needed to trade down to get some cash to go to St Tropez on the CB750. The first CB750 I bought in 1973 was 350 U.K pounds

    i just bought a cb750k and i think its worth it.spend all my money on it buy some add ons and new paint new brakes and other stuffs.some friends dont like it but who cares all i want is to ride a real bike..

    You could have mentioned possibly the most obvious detail on the saddle, or why so many needed new crank cases especialy as its an issue that can be avoided, and needs to be checked for historical repairs.

    I owned a 1973 CB750, same colour, wasn't impressed with the performance, the red 750 Honda is the one of best looking bike made

    Great video very informative. Great bikes However you can easily pick one up for less than £30k ( still a lot of money ) but way down of the £45k mentioned and going backwards in prices at auctions in the uk for last 12 months in my opinion.

    Do you know what frame number did Honda change from the "no dent" for the brake pedal ( I was always cleaning melted rubber from my boot off that pipe) on the number 4 exhaust to the dent to allow clearance for the brake pedal. Years ago I bought a used CB 750 in late 1972. By luck it was a sandcast which at the time I gave it no credence. Which now wish I never sold it. I sold it in 1982 and it had over 100K miles on it. I lived for and on that bike. Anyway John Wyatt's book does not have this information. Maybe because his sandcast on the front cover has the "dented" #4 exhaust. Thanks

    Does anyone know why the red line was dropped by 500 RPM on subsequent models, I believe all until the 1977 F2's limit went up to 9,300 ?

    I don't care about investment when it comes to a rare bike that I love the most, if I'm the owner of that CB750K0, I would never sell it , not even for a $100K

    Hey Paul, so much about the 69SC, everywhere, but do you have an opinion on the brill but almost forgotten rare CB750A Hondamatic? Btw I have (needs restoration) 1978 #3 (third produced) for sale.

    Surely the first Diecasts are also "investment grade". I have read that the first eleven thousand or so CB750's had all the "sandcast" features. If the first 7400 had the sandcast engine, this means that there were fewer diecasts produced with all the other features (wrinkle tank/cut fender etc). Also, if the sandcast are so delicate, the early diecast would be a better bike to actually ride? thoughts....

      You are absolutely correct, yes and we will be doing another feature on the early die cast once we've finished the restoration for the customer.

    Hi mr Paul I found a bike 1970 cb 750 model which looks great
    it has got a genuine kit and is upgraded to 900 cc
    I am thinking about spending 10000 on it
    But i am not sure
    Do you think that it is very expensive because it isn’t the 1969 model
    Or because the upgrade .?

    Tax free investment. lol Not here in Canada. If I were to luck out and find one for 100 CAD then I would have to pay taxes on the book value of the motorcycle. If book value is 50,000 CAD then taxes would be 6,500 CAD.

    Loved your presentation of this bike, I must confess would have liked a more in depth overview. The 'Sandcast' concept was new to me; as is your channel, and look forward to seeing more on this point.
    One Question I do have...
    An owner of a 79 CB 750 has commented (on another channel) that they had to change the valve shims regularly, for wear or design fault i do not know. Was this an inherent issue across the production range or just a year plate glitch...?

    So the KOs started when these sand casts finished their run?

      No they were all just called CB750. In Japan the first variant of anything is called K1. Us Europeans labled the pre K1 bikes K0 in retrospect. My mate had one of the super rare transition KOs when they went to K1. There were 27 on the line that got the K1 twin pull throttle and carbs yet were K0s.

      As far as i remember the K in the type designation equals a japanese word for “improvement”.
      K1 = improvement no 1 and so on.

      $5-7k sound right for a excellent condition. Original paint exhaust seat engine side covers. I bought a 78 cb750k for $3500 30,000 miles all original with a bit of a rotten exhaust and near perfect paint side covers, needed carb and timing tuning. also got a 75 cb750k for $100 21,000 miles. Needed alot of restoration but it was all for the most part there
      I ride my bikes so they aren't perfect

    Prefer a T150. Easier to work on and still get all the bits. And it does'nt say Honda on the tank.

    I did a museum quality restoration on a cb750 You bike is not running properly. It should idle like cream and run easily.

    Can’t believe Honda went to the F1’s after creating these K series classics , losing those 4 beautiful exhausts
    , It’s like they were sabotaging their own company , of course the sales of F1 750s dropped 70%
    Kawasaki did the same after the brilliant 900 Z1’s A’ & B’s .. went to the crap paint jobs on the 1976 Z900’s
    and if that wasn’t enough they got rid of the best exhausts in history & went to two large hair dryers on Z1000’s ,
    How do these companies make these terrible decisions after making such great ones.

    THE motorcycle broker? Not really. More like a talker upper. Who cares about sandcast if it will only be in a museum, or worse in a private collection, just for “Investment grade”. You freely admit the crank case is very weak. So actually you are not a motorcycle fan, but rather a sad man who only cartes about money. “A thing of beauty”? So is the very next iteration which actually is rideable and looks identical. My name’s Gerry Drummond, and I’m A real Motorcyclist.

      I agree. Who really cares about the sandcast case. There are very very very few people who know this and the rest of the population don't care. Those people who are obsessed by the sandcast case are only in it for emotional reasons. I have 7 Honda's in my collection and I couldn't care less. I sure am not going to go weak at the knees if I ever saw one.
