Every time she she sings “I’m holding out…”, in particular the “I” and “I’m”, my emotions go off the chart… it is amazing that despite having a large number of fans, we remain a “cult following”.
I was about six or seven songs down the Angelina Jordan rabbit hole. I was already in total emotional awe of her. Then I heard this and it stunned me. I sat in total silence for many, many minutes processing what I had just heard, by a ten year old by a no less. I had not had a piece of music sung like that reach so deeply into my spirit. To me, I think about how she has the foundation of all these soulful performances at a young age, the structure of her music future is going to be very strong and a gift to the listening public.
I have listened to this on repeat most of the time after i reacted to it yesterday

Angelina is the best i have ever encountered in my almost 70 years, either male or female. I can listen to Angelina all day every day and never get tired of that beautiful voice or that beautiful person. Wish all humans were like her.
That picture at the end is from her grandmother Mery directed music video of "Fly Me To The Moon". I also liked the compilation of photos, videos for that jaw dropping performance.
Didy, this song I had never heard before and of course I was blown away by Angelina's voice at 10. Only after going to listen to Baby Fuzz's version did I know what she had done with it. It was at this point that in my mind I knew she was going to be a legend in her own time. She is a superstar right now and my favorite artist. Thumbs up again Didy, so appreciate your reactions.

I found myself degrading Baby's version because he simply doesn't have the vocal skills that Angelina has. I never gave that version a second listen - but AJ's made me appreciate HIS song a lot more. But not his version. If I was Baby's 'people' - managers - I'd try to INSIST her version gets release so "my" songwriter would get massive royalties from it!

with her voice, every song turns to liquid gold. I love how she intentionally exasperatedly sang 'down' and 'drown' at the end. It works. a true musical genius. My wish is someday she licenses this from Baby Fuzz and releaases this AS IS in one of her future albums.

Look up what an original is. You will see that Angelina’s rendition was published before baby fuzz….of the writers. So this is considered an original, though this was a Demo.

This song is an excellent example why we fans love and adore Angelina’s other worldly musical gifts so much. Angelina’s vocal ability is an addiction that I do not intend to attempt to break.

Thank you for checking this out. What you’ll see as you go further with Angelina is that she kills songs for anyone else. On this one, or I Put a Spell on You, or some Adele songs, or Stay, or her incredible version of Bohemian Rhapsody-and many more-her cover is your immediate favorite. And, she does that across multiple genres. She is literally a once in a lifetime talent, and her sweet personality comes through in her work.
As you may have read by now, the dark lyrics of this song (“put my head under water”, “even if I drown”) are what we’ve heard Angelina’s family didn’t like and why this wasn’t released. But this shows something you’ll see over and over. It’s Angelina’s ability, even as a very young child, to lead us so convincingly through mature themes as she did here. I don’t believe in reincarnation, as some Angelina fans suggest. I just think we are all so lucky to be here and watch the best singer I’ve ever heard,

is, and has been from the start, a vocal chameleon who can
emulate any vocals she hears. The lizard changes color
instantaneously whenever it wants to, and Angelina can change
her vocal sound also as quickly.
Her cover of Stay was my number one favorite for years until her cover of Yesterday.

I keep catching myself saying, what does a kid know about THIS??! Mercifully, I hope no child does. What Angelina does is magical. Even if she has never experienced it, she's making us feel that she has. What is musical craft if not making the viewers believe every note, inflection and emotion coming from the artist?
Yes, this performance at 10 years old is astonishing -- particularly when you realize how different it is from her jazz performances at the same age. "Holding Out" is a preview of her current focus: jazzy pop more in the spirit of Adele and Whitney. AJ's range and pitch are always amazing -- this performance is a bit more "produced" which is probably why so many people put it at the top of their AJ list. It's more "modern" than, for example, her performances of "Summertime" which IMO are her best, along with "Bohemian Rhapsody".

I think what Didy was saying is that Angelina could of used more originals that also become hits and this could have been one of them. That said I think her parents/relatives/team not only want to have kept her innocence as long as possible, but also wanted her career not grow too quickly to avoid harsh things that have happened to others who became too famous to fast.

A shame it wasn’t released, but what a gift that we get to hear it anyway. A real Angelina gem.
Lot of stories behind this performance, and a bunch of misinformation. So here's what seems to be true: She recorded this as a demo shortly before her 11 birthday. It was not her property to release, but it was leaked almost two years later before the composer and copyright holder, Brandon Lowry, aka Baby Fuzz, released his version. He liked it so much that he left it up, and why wouldn't he because it got much more attention than his version. Many of Angelina's fans, including me, still believe it is one of the best things she has ever done. 😊👍

Didy, IMO, ten year old Angelina’s stunning vocal abilities turned this song into a master work. If it wasn’t banned it would have been a chart topping commercial success. Even to this day and after watching countless reactors respond to hearing this song for the first time I still have a hard time believing this is a ten year old Angelina singing. She sounds like a thirty something mature and seasoned veteran.

It's funny in a way when people refer to the Baby-Fuzz recording as "the original".
He, Baby-Fuzz aka _Brandon Lowry,_ wrote this song in 2016 at a song writers camp in Oslo together with _Aksel "Axxe" Carlson, Ronny Jansen_ & _Frida Amundsen._ Around the same time, these three Norwegian song writers/producers were working with Angelina in the production of her song Shield. I've been told that one day when they had gathered in the _SnakeHips_ studio just outside Oslo, they suggested Angelina to do a voice recording for the song, more like a demo. Some time later, it somehow got published on youtube as a "leaked" material. It was taken down, reappeared on a different channel, disappeared and return until it finally stayed public on the channel where it is now.
Meanwhile, according to himself totally unaware of Angelina's recording, Brandon Lowry tried to find an artist to record the song but after being unsuccessful in this undertaking he decided in 2018 to record it himself and publish it with the _80's style_ music video you've seen.

Hi Didy! This is something VERY special from Angelina IMO. The production is ONE thing. The way she used her voice and her tonality is another. Then we have the genre. Up until this point in her career (yes, we have to call it a career) she had almost exclusively been singing jazz. Then, all of a sudden, they put her in a studio with a song like this, and THIS is what she was able to do and sound like ? At age friggin' TEN ??? Come on! It was a defining point in her career, maybe not so much for her personally, but for the millions of people who have listened to it. It was the proof of what so many people already knew, and a big relief in a way, too, for many of her fans, at least for me. Let's face it. Although jazz is her very essence and her definite wheelhouse, it still has a rather narrow audience in modern music. Her jazz needs to be introduced when she already has made a name for herself (although she already HAS started that process with stuff like her jazzy Billie Jean for instance), and she can then definitely help jazz hitting a way broader audience than it has today. So the relief for me was to have the proof that she COULD and that she WOULD. This was also the definite point where I finally could lower my shoulders and be 100% sure that she would make it as an artist if she wanted to, and not only that, but also know with certainty that SHE would be the one to set the bar as to HOW big. Because she really has no limits, I think we already had understood that much. Like, who wins a national talent show, singing jazz the way she did it at 7/8 ? WHO ? And who, except Angelina, could do what she did with "I Put A Spell On You" at 9years 2 months, right? We/ I understood right away that she was a HUGE prodigy, but in MY mind there always was this BUT. And that BUT was the genre. Please don't get me wrong; I LOVE jazz and have been listening to it a lot. When I got to hear this song for the first time, she had already begun releasing a few covers, spanning different genres, but like I said, THIS was the performance that finally put my mind at ease. Now that Angelina is 16 we have had proof after proof after proof, and now it's actually just a matter of enduring the waiting game and just enjoy what we get from her through her socials, waiting for the BIG BANG. I can't wait to see how her creative genius will start to build musical bridges between genres. Angelina can do it all.

They are indeed very good thoughts and i think may will have identical feeling as you. She has the potential to reach the top in most of the genres and some of them she will dominate completely.

A vocal masterpiece from a 10 year old Angelina. As one outstanding vocal coach said, in stunned amazement, "There are no words or terms for what she just did."
To me, this is in my top 5 of her songs, but I truly believe this could have been a #1 song. However, I understand her family's decision due to her age. I would truly love to see Angelina revisit this song now that she is 6 years older. What a magnificent performance! Thanks Didy.
I have 2 more Audio Only songs one is a 10year old singing a Disco song in 2016, "I will Survive" the other is a Christmas song she sang at age 11 for a radio station called "Mary's Boy Child" need to hear both! They are covers but ALL AJ!!
I'm not sure what the definition of a "cover" is. This was actually created before Baby Fuzz made his version so, maybe this version is the "original" and his is the cover. It seems pretty universal that this performance is the preferred one for anyone who has listened to any others. For those of us who have been fans for several years this is one of the highest ranked performances in a long list of Angelina's output. We are very grateful that it was saved and disseminated to give the historical context in the "Life and Legend of Angelina Jordan" that will probably be released in the next century or so.
Apparently she did it first so... Anything else is then a cover.. ;)
@@didymalgia The consensus among Angels seems to be that this was a missed opportunity, sadly consigned to the dustbin of history, but the fact is that this song and this arrangement are still available for any record label to purchase and gift to their latest upcoming star as their debut hit record. Republic Records could do it. If it's true that Angelina herself has such an aversion to the song that she flatly refuses to ever sing it again, there are plenty of other ambitious young artists with sharp elbows who will happily push her aside for a guaranteed chart-topper and a stellar start to their own career. Nobody seems to know who arranged Angelina's demo cover, but my dream is that she re-records it with piano accompaniment only. If she could accompany herself on stage, in a spotlight, it could become the show stopper in her first world tour ... just dreaming ... 🙂🎶

This is one of my favorite Angelina songs. In fact probably one of the best things she's ever done! She sounds like she's 25 years old and she's only 10. Not only is it the best thing she's ever done but it is probably the most profound recording ever by a 10 year old. The emotion, the nuances and the color in her voice are second to none. The song would have been a huge hit if it were released. From what I've heard, I believe references to suicide are not accurate. There were business and family decisions that caused this not to be released. Thank you so much for reacting to this one.
On another note, there was an artist that I'd like to request you react to who you may or may not be familiar with. Her name is Eva Cassidy. She played during the '80s and '90s as a guitarist and vocalist, singing classics, jazz, and blues. Unfortunately, and tragically, she died in 1996 at the age of only 33 from melanoma. She was fairly well known in her region around Washington DC but not so much outside her area. She did release a couple of albums during that time. However, after her death, she became legendary and known internationally and sold over 10 million records! Her voice is crystal clear and filled with emotion and when she sings you know it is her, just like Angelina.
There was only one video performance of her ever captured at a place called the Blues Alley Lounge, 10 months before her death. It is an amazing concert with 15 or 20 songs in black and white. She became famous for her rendition of Somewhere over the Rainbow, which is one of the best versions ever recorded of the song. She also does Bridge over troubled Water, time after time, songbird, Fields of Gold, and many others. I would request Bridge over troubled Water as a first introduction. Thank you
I believe that Angelina is very aware of Eva Cassidy. Before the last concert at Prøysenhuset they played the album of Eva Cassidy, and over the rainbow was played when Angelina received the golden buzzer at America got talent. They share some of the same improvising skills and also the knowledge of how to create a cover that is as good as the original.

Few if any can express and elicit the deep feelings of passion the way she does. Brilliant. AJ has 320k. Baby Fuss wrote a wonderful song for her. No one has the vocals she has but her arrangement is not gimmicky but simple and straight forward. Such a class act. The best way to hear the details in her voice is with volume. A little more volume makes a huge difference in the experience. Love your reaction. She's got a spell on you, like the rest of us.
It took me a long time to finally decide my favorite Angelina song and this is it. It's unlike anything she has ever done and has such an original sound and I believe if it was released today, as is, it would be a chart topper. Everyone who hears this the first time is blown away not just because she is only 10 but because it's just a great song. When I first listened I had to go back and listen again and again probably 20 times! I love it when a reactor gets to this one esp. after watching the "Spell" video. Just when you think you've got a top 5 list here comes something else. We are witnessing the evolution of who will one day be the top vocal artist in the world, there's no stopping Angelina. She is special and we are blessed that she has allowed us to see her growth from babyhood. To think she has had a mic in her hand and a camera in her face her entire life and still have such poise and grace is a testament to the kind of young lady she is. Angelina can make a bland song sound interesting, a good song sound great, and a great song sound sublime.
This is one of the ones that I wish there was video of her performance available. I'm really blown away by her composure and confidence throughout her early work. Two of my favorite performances that I'm waiting for you to review are 'Feeling Good' live from 'The Stream Gives Back,' where she makes the live performance look so easy and meshes with the band so well... and her studio recording of Billie Holiday's "I'm a Fool to Want You" from the 'It's Magic' album where you get to watch her add her vocals to the track performed by the Norwegian Armed Forces Staff Band. The vocals on that are amazing. Thanks again. Watching you react to all of these videos that I haven't watched in a long time has been great.

This song really focuses on an area that AJ doesn't get enough credit for.....her patience. She never rushes. The way she carries and extends vowels and word endings. She has perfected this craft at an age that most singers haven't even started to learn how to do it.

As most Angelina Angels would say, greatest song that was never published regardless of her age here. Just an astonishing superlative vocal masterpiece....period. Glad you have reacted to this one as it is simply mind blowing to say the least. Doubt that there are any singers of any age that could compete with this one. A true, pure music artist and music genius are what you may say but that does not even do Angelina justice. It wasn't released by her for only one reason. the fact that Baby FuzZ took a leaked song meant for Angelina. Then put on his record label is where it got sticky' Now it is up to the record label from both Baby BuzZ and Angelina's Label to hash this out. I wouldn't be surprised if Republic records (Angelina"s Label) make it so Angelina get some kind of credit for the song.
Shock and awe that is the calling card of Angelina, I think back to a lot of good singers and I can not recall one that does for me what Angelina does, Her voice is just celestial emotive magic, as you say "from the first few seconds she opens her mouth to sing". ,No else I know can do that on a consistent basis as our Barefoot Queen .Princess) of song can.

So ... I just saw your reaction. This particular video blows my mind every. single. time. I hear it. It is one that I have been known to cry with from the first sound to the end. If I'm feeling emotional and this comes on, I have to simply sit and weep .. with gratitude for the magnificence of her Spirit, her voice, her gentle ways .. her generosity. The video is out and alive. I only hope that Baby Fuzz doesn't give it to someone else to do.

Blessings to you, Didy .. you are adding so much heart for us here. It's so odd to think you're all the way in Norway .. since I've been listening to you and watching you for days now .. funny how as humans we push the viral reality to the expanse of our feelings. I think if we didn't being on CZcams could be depressing .. but someone with a Soul and Spirit like Angelina can hold us all in her embrace and we get to feel we are truly part of her life .. and each other's lives. I am so grateful that during the first year and a half of COVID, I had her firmly in my life, even though I saw her in 2014 and have been first looking for her then following her. Those two years of grief were held by her voice and uplifting view of life.

I really love the arrangement and production of this song. Aksel Carlson and Ronny Janssen did such a great job making this demo. Angelina sounds just like a seasoned pro in this one, wonderfully done, amazing voice, one week shy of only 11 years old. Dette er et reelt mesterstykke, Didy, det er godt å se at du er enig i det. I'm still holding out for you song written by Brandon Lowry, "also goes by Baby Fuzz," Ronny Janssen and Frida Amundsen went to 10-year-old Angelina with it and Angelina made this audio demo cut but rumor is Angelina's mother didn't like the ending lyrics referencing suicide and the demo cut was not released. Later the demo was pirated from Angelina pictures were added and put online at the same time the song was released by Baby Fuzz caused some confusion but rumor has it that all parties agreed to leave Angelina's pirated cut on U-tube. Babyface did not get Angelina's version as it was not released to him I think he would have used Angelina's version had it been released for he has allowed it to play on U-Tube.
Angie's fans think that this is one of her best vocals and if it had been released would have charted well. In a nutshell, BabyfuzZ, a well-known and successful song writer wrote this with a few buddies at a songwriting camp. He shopped it around to his clients and got no takers then sent the music and lyrics out to a number of singers to make a demo. His buddies knew Angelina so sent it to her too. Ten-year-old Angelina did this rendition but BabyfuzZ denies ever hearing it and maybe the other singers did not do it. Angelina's version somehow got released on CZcams a couple of years later but was immediately taken down. BabyfuzZ recorded his version about a month after Angelina's got leaked. It did not do well. A fan kept a copy of hers, though, and produced this video with newer images. It is not clear why Angelina did not release it but the suicide references at the end or copyright issues are suspect. Anyway, Angelina was the first to sing and record this song.

@ Jane Austin. Hi! I cannot remember seeing your name in the comments before, so forgive me if I come across as an over critical old man. That Angelina was 10 years old is undeniable. The reason you give for the none release of the video is just an opinion which has never been proven. Neither Angelina nor any member of her family has ever said anything about this matter and until they choose to do so all the "reasons" given are just opinions which have, through repetition, come to be regarded as facts. I have lost count of the number of times I have asked those giving opinions about this for a source of the information. Nothing has ever been posted which can be verified.
This demo by 10 year old Angelina was leaked, before Baby Fuzz released his “original” version. As for me, Angelina is the original, and far and away better.
Good reaction and this was my instant favorite upon hearing the first time. Here's a short video not on the list. Angelina is 9, and she's singing for her sister Juliette, who is 3, before she leaves on world tour. It's not the full song, but its La Boheme.. Juliettes reaction is very heartwarming. Hi Didy. This is the original of the song as far as I know. She made it as a demo but for whatever reason decided not to release it. Baby Fuzz and a couple of Norwegian song writers composed the song and then tried to sell it but no one bought it. From what I have read, Baby Fuzz claims he record his version and released the video with it after no one else would buy it . Baby Fuzz denied hearing Angelina's until after he did his own (I kind of doubt that he was unaware of her version especially if he and his co-writers were trying to sell it to her. I bet he heard how good it was and thought he could do just as well as a kid and record a hit.)

Baby FuzZ recorded this leaked song a recorded it. This song was written for Angelina. When Baby FuzZ was hanging out with some musicians in Oslo, Norway where Angelina was born The song was leaked by them. Baby FuzZ took it and recorded it. That song was never written for Baby FuzZ. So please don't be confused about it. Just thought you should know.
Her mother had issues with the idea its relation to suicide and thats why its never officially been released. The Leaker obviously felt it was too important to not to be released. It is Incredible it is perfect in all respects.
