700hp AMG Cannonball Record Holder (The full story)

- The Cannonball Run has a long rich history of incredible accomplishments that continues to shock and surprise the world with every new record made! The record was most recently broken by our friend Arne Torman (he co-founded AMS!), in his 700hp 2015 Mercedes Benz. Arne managed to pull off the 2800 mile journey from New York to Los Angeles in just under 28 hours (including stops)! We ran into Arne at the 2020 GTR World Cup and since he wasn’t in a hurry this time, was able to pull aside and give us a tour of the command cockpit that he and two others piloted across the country, right into the record book! The amount of tech in this car is mind boggling, and really provides some incredible insight into how they pulled off such a feat, in the safest way possible!

all the electronics makes me think of the part on the cannonball run movie where its night and jackie chans crew turn the lights off on the subaru and blast past a cop while wearing night vision goggles and laughing about the cop probably being real confused
vargo hoat I’m gonna need the link boss
x iDropKillz x theres 2 options for you sunny jim, shell out a few bucks or learn to torrent, the choice is yours
Haha, I remember that.
Lmao! Jackie chan and jaws in #2 were funny too
193 mph, that's 304 kmh
Thru American with a 70 mph speed limit and cops all over the place
Meh 🤷🏽♂️ “suggested speed” is what it should read.
speed limits vary by state. Some have lower, and now that this is public, the police that he passed can come back with a warrant and seize the car, and send him all the tickets. This is stupid as fuck to do, and speeding past a certain point can result in a felony warrant for your arrest, which carries a minimum of 1 year of prison time.
@@chubbysumo2230 but do they have proof to charge him the tickets?
@@chubbysumo2230 No way to prove who was driving at what time in what location. Kinda hard to bring charges in that situation.
That’s pretty fucking fast. In Canada fastest i’ve been is 260kph or 160mph. In my province they throw you in jail and impound your car for 140kph or 87mph, loss of license for year if convicted.
Imagine the cops face after looking inside upon pulling you over in this😲
they would probably think you are scamming credit cards or a serial killer on the run, be hard to explain "no, it's all just to drive faster!"....sir please step out of the car with your hands where I can see them!!!!
The look would be priceless.
Alex Roy and his cannonball BMW put Storm 1- Storm 2 etc stickers on all of his screens. This way when he was pulled over he was going to say he was a storm chaser.
@@847MicRoss very smart
amazing ! also americans do the most coolest usseles shit ever ! @@847MicRoss
This guy seems like the nicest and chilliest dude ever. Congrats bro! Such a rad accomplishment🤙🏼👊🏼
Cocaine has entered the chat:

@anonymous adderal is medical methamphetamine... One chemical molecule difference...
Brock Yates first reported on the Cannonball in early-mid 1970s in Playboy, and he also stated the number one issue for driving like that was not to perturb the other drivers on the road. Good call.
I love this type of content!
The story of this run is on Vin Wiki channel. It's titled something like "We beat the cannonball run record"
This dude could rob a bank and escape easily by avoiding every single cop on earth
Nearly every police officer in the USA now knows this car and its secrets!
They're still looking for a 2007 silver accord ;)
@@blairwilliams136 haha true
because there nothing new.
It already set the record
@@ishithomas2707 it's already been beaten a few times
I did 39h on my semi with 2 drivers..
Who cares...
G lmaooo savage
You’re the man!!!
MadAdventure I’m 20 and I want to drive semis
I also own a garage with my dad(weedz garage) and if I drive semis I’d buy my own and have it hella custom
Vinwiki also has a pretty badass story on this🤙🏼
That's where I first heard about it. Had no idea about it before a few months ago. Such an awesome story!
Not from the guy who did it like this video....
@@JordanJank look up a video titled "We broke the cannonball record". It is on VinWiki channel. By the way VinWiki is a channel where people can tell their car stories. There are some amazing stories there.
Nice video, keep up the good work!
I love everything about this car and it’s purpose. Bravo!!
Great interview.. 👍
Awesome footage and content
Nice interview, and accolades for amazing accomplishment.
Great interview 👍
I love all of his "I donate the the policeman's ball" and "thin blue line" stickers 😂
Want that experimental app that scrapes data from waze for the heatmap. Does anyone know what it could be?
What is it?
Its called five guys
It's pretty handy.
So inspiring and one day I might do a coast to coast run. Also the countermeasures are so cool!
This is awesome!
Always heard about these cannonball runs on vinwiki. Looking forward to watching one go down!
👌
That set up was sweet !
This guy is literally my hero, incredible!
A lot of smart features , I think they had so much fun !
The inside of the car reminded me of Jackie chan from their car in one of the movies.
you mean Cannonball Run... Great movie
@@x...CrankyOldMan...x It's based on a real running of the cannonball too
He was in both movies. In the 1st one, they had a Subaru GL. In the 2nd, they had a Mitsubishi Starion.
Was wondering when this would finally get posted. Figured you woulda got an interview sooner
Out of that whole event seeing Arnie and the car there was the best part!
I love this video
That was pretty cool
That back end is hilarious
Guy picked smart, that's exactly what I'd do. Pick an AMG or an M5 and go for it, these cars are designed to maintain high speeds in comfort for long periods of time and everyone tends to be blind to exactly how fast they are until you walk their hellcat. Been a dream of mine to run it once before I go, even my wife wants to and since I already have to constantly tell her to back down from 120-140mph on the highway all of the time, she'd be a great second driver. I've done Denver to Vegas in under 7hrs twice, this would be so much fun.
yjjeeper1 as a german who is going these speeds on every holiday drive on the Autobahn i have to disagree. The fuel consumption of these amg and M models is too much for long highspeed drives. I would Go for a big 3.0l Diesel station Wagon. Bmw m550d, audi a6 3.0tdi competition or mercedes e400d. These can go over 180mph no problem with just a remap and the fuel consumption is crazy Low. You can travel with over 130mph constant speed and fuel consumption would be still lower than 23mpg. With a big fuel tank system i think you could do a cannonball run without stopping for fuel.
@@traxx2k722 still need 140 gallons of fuel or over 1300 lbs refueling makes sense.
Your body still has to get up and move every now and then. Stops are that necessary evil
Someone has done it in an Audi diesel before. Didn't break the record but came in 2nd twice with the diesel setup. It's absolutely a possibility with that you're suggesting
@@traxx2k722 what most people don't understand is that the fuel consumption is mainly due to the high rpms at high speeds, not necessarily because you're straining the engine. Easily remedied with a gear swap, then you're good to go. Our M-Package 540i gets about 32mpg on the highway, and we don't drive slow so although a diesel will still get a little better mpgs, these gas engines don't need much help to get Honda gas mileage at 100+mph. I see the autobahn vids and always wonder why they don't swap gears, any car cruising at 5-9k rpm no matter what the speed is going to drink a ton of fuel. For me, even if I could get passed the smell and smoke, diesels just don't do it for me so I'll stick to a gear swap.
20th 👍's up guys thanks for taking the time for us all
bad ass run would love to do this some day
So sick!!!!!!!
Nice!
That's an awesome way to win it. Just didn't want to stand out or act out in any way and set the record. Totally awesome Arne
I'm amazed that this is possible. I'm frustrated by all the traffic on the E-W interstates and find it hard to manage 10 over the limit for more than a fee minutes at a time before getting backed up by drivers blocking the left lane.
Holly sh.t dude that's pretty nuts u did it in that time all the tools really help you for sure flying Benz..
thats sick
Did I just see, max 193mph? 😂
On the short leg through mexico, yes.
Where can I find footage from inside the car from the run
I loved the movie Speed Zone as a kid!
I’ve always wanted to do something like a bull run or a cannon ball run. Lots of electronics and technology and diy stuff.
Nice stuff...
This guy is a hoot !
Bucket list item for sure
This guy is my new hero
Epic cheapest tire as a full size spare on a 700+ hp Benz
To be fair - in the drifting scene, ironman tires are nothing to shake a stick at.
Run flat.
Incredible
What's that brand of magnetic car mount for the phones/tablet?
He's rocking the perfect gofast setup
Awesome interview! :)
El chapo would be very proud! Haha
Nice run! That would be fun as hell !
Awesome. Chi town is in the house.
Thinking to myself, thats a cool personal achievement took a lot. And must be expensive. Randomly throws co-founder of AMG lol. Thats a pretty sweet conversation starter. And now thinking about how much he had to lose(license considering AMG dude lol) when he didnt have to, just because he wanted, is even more awesome.
Cool I think they really should do a remake of the gumball rally and the 2 cannonball runs those are the craziest and coolest movies that I have seen now I can see someone trying to do this in an electric car in about 4-5 years
German super sedans are the best for cannonball runs.
You my kind sir... have a need for speed
This very well could be the 1320 mexico runs camera car!
I remember you guys saying one goal was to reduce stationary time? How feasable would it be to use a high powered diesel sedan? You could use 2x hi-flow truck pumps on your stops and halve your fuel stop time
Really cool guy, congrats on the record
Cledus Maggard would be jealous 👍
Says, "I'm not trying to beat anyone in a drag race"
Also says, "It's got 700 hp"
If I had a 700 hp car I'd race it everywhere, win or loss won't matter.
Its a Mercedes after all
It weights more than any bus
i like your style
sweet accord indeed
“I can hit that about 10times on a run” I think your hitting something else the WHOLE run;)
kyle you need to do some vinwiki stories
I can just see Arne seeing up his last jammer for his trip to the grocery store.
TCAS as a plane detector? Thats so smart!
1:55 I don't get it, for what purpose they have a plane avoidance system?
Damn there is some serious extra weight on that Amg
And here I was thinking The Hoff was the Nightrider :p
what are the rules on fuel capacity
You have crushed my bragging rights. Now I can't tell people my kind of car holds the cannonball record anymore 😭
Guess you're going to have to go buy an Audi S6, now...
Arne also learned an important idea from Ed Bolian. Either pay cash for gas after the initial stop, or rotate everyone's credit cards! Lol!
Also, would love to hear the spotter's audio when the Mercedes blew past a median cop, and saw the cop later at a gas station..
They actually had pit crews this time at the fuel stops. Already paid for with pumps in hand as they pulled in
@@deejayyy1681 That also was a huge help.
Omg at about 2 minutes in they talked about how they're running an underground app that scrapes waze data to create a spead trap heat map.
That's so crazy, great minds think alike. I had a thought about a year ago to do pretty much exactly that. I started the project then discarded it because I realised I'm not the hacker I thought I was. I was devastated because I was sure it was a good idea, I'm actually ecstatic to hear that someone else had the same idea and followed through.
Also, I had an idea because in my city in Australia, they hide camera's in bushes and due to the logistics of hiding cameras in the roadside, there's limited locations where they can park a camera car and incidentally most of the exact locations you find camera cars parked are in specific location points down the roads. So the idea that they can be or are hidden anywhere is a bit of a lie, they're in very specific locations.
In my head, such a "waze heatmap" would scrape the data and build a database to pinpoint the exact locations that these camera cars are parked so when waze says "there's a camera down this road" you know exactly which bush it is hiding behind.
Another idea I had a thought of: In the places where radar/LIDAR detectors are still legal, a bootleg version of "Waze heatmapping" wherein an algorithm automatically places a pin on the map where your radar detector detecs speed camera pings, which then gives you a popup to confirm or deny the alert for a speed camera present.
So yeah, if anyone who is smarter and more hacker than me sees these ideas, please pass them on. I'd love to see some intelligent programmers pick up on the idea and make something of it.
I once drove from Dallas to the Bay Area in 25 hrs on a Toyota t100 with all my crap. This is insane!!!
Fkn amazing
is this different to VINwiki?
Rest in piece to that car
She lives! Foreign Builds, here on CZcams, rebuilt Angry Ursula (Arne's nickname for this E63) and documented it on their channel; they just recently finished it!
Great content Kyle . When are you going to do a Vin Wiki interview and tell some story’s or even the history of 1320 video’s ? You’re definitely a huge part of the street scene these days and worthy of having Vin Wiki segments
1320video is alot better than vinwiki...

I made my friend run binoculars on our way home from college on Friday nights a few times. I thought we were retarded but it worked. Cant have radar here so why not.
Chuck Beef Waze app always works great showing where the police are on the interstates.
That’s the same speedometer app I use.
Ayeee I run AMS everything on my infiniti
It might not be smart to reveal your secrets. But it’s also smart because he just made it 100x harder for other cannonball runners to try and beat his record
Have you guys seen the 7 year old attempting the pizza challenge? It's hilarious

Coffee Pjesht good question, you can’t have good MPG running 110 unless you have tall gears and a low drag coefficient
@@phoenix21studios Which a LOT of big German sedans do, as they're designed for hours-long blasts down the Autobahn with no speed limits. I think he mentioned this getting just a bit below 15mpg in a different video.

Monday morning in my 1989 KW pulling a 53 foot loaded trailer, right around 600 hp and I drove the whole way... 😆 I was only a 10 year truck driver at the time but I had a BIG CB.
