      Just a quick question...do you ever use the brayer to blend the distress inks...?....I saw you use a blending tool..OK...but I don't like the square marks using the pads directly onto the gel plates.....Jane

    I love this video!!! I've never seen anyone use ink pads on gel plates. So cool. I have more ink pads than paint colors. Cuz I started making cards. Today has been Karen Day for me. I like to wait and watch a whole afternoon or evening of your videos. I can't watch just ONE!! Thx for video.

      i know your comment is old, but i figured i'd chime in to say as SOON as i got my oxides, i tried them on my gelli plate lol. but only after seeing other people do it, To be honest. (hehe i was scared yes)... it seems though you can throw a LOT of products on the gelli plate, aside from sharp objects, and the most you'll do is STAIN it. i love both my gelli plates AND my oxides after playing on the plate with them. Have you tried it yet since your comment, if you have them that is? SOO Fun :)

    I love gel printing but just don't do it often enought. Curious what you do with your deli paper prints? I am a card maker so not sure how I would use prints that are on deli paper. Thank you

      You could use it as collage pieces to build a background or even as a panel. You can back it onto something more opaque similarly to vellum

      Hi Karen. Sorry maybe its a word that not many crafters know (my friends call them a Wendyism. Usually words I use that no one else know). Beading Its where all the ink looks likes little beads on the gel press. My hubby said it might be the paper and I should try more absorbent one but I changed the ink and that seemed to sort it but as everyone seems to be using Tim Holtz I want to also. Will have a play later. Thanks for taking the time to msg me back. I don't go on Facebook anymore sorry. Hugs Wendy xxxx

      I know what you mean, Margaret. Mine beads up too, but when i take the print, it is fine. :) I have a video showing my prints, but not my process. (Which reminds me - I really want to make a vid on doing prints with my oxides on my gelli plate. Maybe this next time I'm off work i can nab my iPad back from the hubby and record it LOL)

      Hi Ho. I Tim Holtz does a lovely comparison video about Distress and Oxides. I have had some helpful comments i will try later. Giving it a good wash and dry seems to be the best one. Hugs xxx

    Thank you for your tutorial. Can I ask if the ordinary Distress Inks act the same way on the gelli plate like the Oxide Inks do? I have the ordinary Distress Ink pads and I tried some colours on my plate this evening after watching your video. I found the Inks don't lay down like paint on the plate rather they appear like tiny little droplets all over the plate. I was wondering if there is a difference between the two types of ink. Many thanks for great info.

    • @KerenTamir
      @KerenTamir  Před 7 lety

      Dorothy Radley so yes you can use the inks on the plate to make monoprint impressions. But there effect won't be the same. The oxide inks have both dye ink and pigment ink. Which means that since they have pigment the color is much more vivid. And the dye ink is the one the reacts with water while the pigment stays put. The distress inks you used are only dye inks meaning the whole thing reacts with water. However you could apply the inks dry on the plate and then splatter a little with water. The effect will be good but not the same. The dye inks are lighter and you won't get such a vivid impression. Hope I make sense and it helps. Watch my other video on the distress oxides as I talk more about them. I have links below if you do decide to buy them and splurge. Lol

      Thanks Keren. I had an idea they might be different because they behave differently on your gelli plate than the ink pads do on mine. Now you have set me off wanting the new Distress Oxide colours, lol 😊 xx

      I didn't think I'd love them as much as I do as I don't use the distress inks as much. but because I'm a huge fan of oxidized things this is amazing for my style. Not trying to be an enabler just really love these compared to the original ones.

      Dorothy - my distress oxides bead up slightly on my plate, too, though. but once i pull a print, it seems just like Keren's and it looks fine. what i do though is press the pad onto the plate, all randomly, then brayer it all out to blend it so they don't just look like squares. The prints came out great (i actually have a *share* vid of my prints if you are interested). not quite the same look as Keren's since she used the blending tool ON the plate, whereas i used the brayer to blend, but good nonetheless. Figured I throw that out there since everyone has different experiences. I think my house is pretty dry though and has dried out my plate a touch, so paints etc act strange on my plate since i've done the oxides on the plate. so idk how they act now. i wondered too if i'd used too much rubbing alcohol on the plate to clean it, maybe damaging it. oh well. it seems fine, but just... dry. (shrug) i'll shut up now lol

      I really don't know but maybe ask Einat Kessler as she designed some stamps for them. Maybe she sells them as well. You also might be able to order directly from them. Stamps are not heavy so shipping might be cheap

      its the wax paper they use in a deli to wrap the meats. its that non stick translucent paper. the actual deli one is not waxed though. Its only called Deli because thats what we call the meats.
