- I finally did it! I made a video for you all about hypnobirthing... I hope this explains a few things for you guys. Obviously it's not for everyone and no one should ever be made to feel bad about their choices when it comes to labour. Growing a human is an amazing job! Big love!
For those who feel like they've no idea what's going on in these 'Dear...' videos - Carrie is my sister in law (Tom's sister) and we post videos to each other on CZcams - it's a way to keep each other informed on our going ons. Lol, love Tom's face after Gi says it's her birthday, then clarifies that it's her birthday when the video goes up not actually on the day of filming... then Gia says "Don't worry you haven't forgotten"....then Tom has the look of a man who is desperately thinking of a gift for his wife as he has actually forgotten.
I won't be having children for a few years, but hearing stuff like this from two people I really trust and admire calms my thoughts about how things will go when I have children.

I love it guys! My mum already did hypnobirthing when I was born more than 20 years ago, although it didn't have that name back then (it was all about breathing and relaxation techniques to control pain and fear). She's always said that giving birth to my sister and I was the best and most beautiful experience of her life. First thing she said just seconds after I was born was: "If this is giving birth, I shall have many children!" It's nice of you to talk about it and explain what it is so that more people might know about it and enjoy the whole process, both mummy and daddy. I hope your second labour may be as happy as your first! Happy birthday :) xxx

It's so true that people share their 'horror stories'! As soon as I announced I was pregnant I heard terrible story after terrible story! So much that I almost feel guilty to tell people that I have had three extremely positive births. All unassisted, all drug free. I feel like I'm bragging to talk about it, but I also really want to spread positive messages about birth and how wonderful it can be! I have never actually heard of hypnobirthing, but it sounds very much like what I naturally did myself! Women's bodies are incredible! We are made to do this amazing thing; creating, sustaining and nourishing life within us. And birth is such an incredible part of it! To bring a tiny life into the world can be the most wonderful experience! Thanks for sharing Gi! Sounds like hypnobirthing is fantastic!!
I'm currently cuddling my 4 week old while watching this, we didn't hypnobirth as it wasn't my cup of tea personally but I totally agree about people sharing scary stories. I was terrified until I spoke to a couple of older mums I work with and they told me how amazing their births were. I really think we should be aware of the impact of birth war stories on new mums and, in the spirit of that, I can't wait to share my story positively - I admittedly was really lucky but growing a human and giving birth is a hugely emotional and empowering experience no matter which way you choose to deliver. Good luck to anyone waiting to meet their babies- you're going to be fantastic!!xx
I just fell asleep to this video and slept for 3 hours, that's not an insult they have such soothing voices and I'm ill, best parents ever!!

When I had my son, after a life threatening pregnancy, I had a long labour & 9lb baby, I was very calm no pain relief & had an amazing experience I still now 28yrs later remember how wonderful the feeling of giving birth is, good luck Gi, hope everything you experience with this birth is wonderful calm & something you treasure forever the pure miracle of life is amazing xx

This video actually made a huge impact in me because I used to think that giving birth was one of the most awfully painful things I could go through and I didn't want to have children because of that. Most people always share their bad experiences as you've said, but now that I know that it doesn't necessarily have to be that way, I might as well start a family one day. Lots of love!

I practiced hypnobirthing when pregnant with my son Henry, my partner and I had the most amazing experience and I couldn't have done it without him. It's so amazing to look back and be able to share our versions of the event with each other with such joy and be excited to do it all again. I didn't have any pain relief either and can honestly say the pain was minimal, I was up and about within half an hour with no problems. I hope you guys have a second amazing experience and get to meet your little one soon xx
This is really good especially for first time mums. This will eliminate all the negativity and misconceptions of labor and pregnancy.

I am 26 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I have heard of hypnobirthing and have been given a book and cd which I haven't started yet. but I'm feeling quite relaxed about the whole thing anyway and I really cannot wait to go into labour. but watching this has just given me the push I needed to start reading the book - it also made me cry because I can't wait for my partner and I to have a wonderful experience just like you described (but I think that's my hormones!!)

First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY GI! :D I hope you had a lovely day and I love that you are so vocal about hypnobirthing. I'm a hypnotherapist, and from what I know of hypnobirthing (although, I haven't trained in it specifically), it IS hypnosis, more specifically self-hypnosis. The problem isn't that it is hypnosis, the problem is the perception of hypnosis. All hypnosis is actually self-hypnosis because if you were unwilling to be hypnotised, you won't be. The perception of hypnosis is that you are out of control and that another individual controls you, but this is far from the truth. As Gi said, you are completely in control. In fact, every individual experiences the sensation of hypnosis - the moment before you wake up and you might say that you are groggy, or the moment before you fall asleep, which you might say that you are dozing off - as a hypnotherapist, it is the hypnogrogic and hypopompic state. When you are under hypnosis, it will merely feel like that, a calmer, more serene experience. Everytime I put my clients under hypnosis, the first thing they say when they come out of trance, is the shock at being able to remember everything and were completely in control - actually what they tend to say is "I wasn't hypnotised"... they were, it just didn't match up to their perception of it so I often have to include a 'convincer' so that they know they are under trance. hypnobirthing sounds amazing! I had my first baby back in October, I went in with an open mind and no birth plan, just to with the flow, I ended up having just gas and air and delivered in the pool, best experience ever and I was so proud of myself for doing it! my husband felt a bit put out but I was in my own little zone and him just being there to feed me sweets and drink was amazing! it's the best experience of my life and I can't wait to do it again in the future! happy birthday Gi, I'm sure Tom has spoilt you! You guys are amazing! xx
I was just like your friend Holly, got to 9cm and had a emergency c section, but I also has gestational diabetes so my whole birthing experience was chucked upside down from being induced at 37 weeks. I'm so glad you've explained that stuff doesn't happen as planned, especially as I've been feeling really down about not being able to give birth naturally. Glad you guys got to go through the birth experience in a calm great way!

this was very lovely to hear and about and to find out other ways of giving birth. I know that I wont be having children for a long time but I am actually terrified about giving birth as people close to me have had terrible experiences and tragedies with the birth of their child. this has shown me that there are many ways of making that moment special. thank you xxx also happy birthday Gi!! xx
I'm 18 and after watching your video it inspired me to look at hypnobirthing more. Obviously not planning on having children ANY time soon, but in 5, 10, 15 years when the idea of children doesn't make me sweat I think I would really enjoy hynobirthing. As I agree with you that birthing should be a happy and not fearful experience. Thankyou for showing more options to birthing expiences, hope you have a wonderful second baby birth!
Firstly, Happy Birthday Gi 🎉🎁🎂🎈 Hypnobirthing, sounds very mindful. I have a chronic illness and when my pain is really bad, I use mindfulness techniques to help me relax and get in to a calm state of mind. I've had two babies, now 15 and 11, luckily I had smooth labours and births and used only gas & air. I didn't have my chronic illness when I had my babies, I was diagnosed 2yr ago with that. I had my daughter in November, 1st and only baby at home water birth using hypnobirthing, no pain relief at all not even gas & air and it was truly beautiful. Good luck with your new bubba x

I read the same hypnobirthing book you recommended when I was pregnant with my daughter. I ended up having a planned section as she was breech but I still used the breathing techniques to help me through the surgery. We even laughed lots on the operating table!

I hypnobirthed and also ended up with an emergency c section but it was still the best thing I ever done and I would do it again next time as well. I am so glad I did it as I was able to deal with the complications much better and my husband was a huge part of it and was amazing. So special.
I've never heard of this before but it sounds so much easier then a "normal" birth. I'm not even old enough to have kids just thinking about doing this makes giving birth seem less scary and less painful.
I used hypnobirthing for my first in November last year, I have preexisting anxiety issues and only had access to a book, no courses and no support from birth partner however it still helped massively to keep me calm and focused! I know if I had more support and had been able to go to classes it would of been even better but still worked wonders :) good luck guys

Absolutely love this video. I'm expecting twins and am ever so slightly terrified about it all and have been trying to find some information about what exactly hypnobirthing is but nothing has been helpful. Until now! This video definitely convinced me to give it a go when I do eventually have children. Sure it might not be for everyone but might as well see what happens. Hope my birthing experience ends up being as incredible as yours xxx
I had a birth plan and I was opened minded going in with the attitude, whatever it takes to get baby out and have us both healthy and well. The planned serene water birth ended up in no bath in sight, epidural, forceps and then a dislocated and fractured ankle from blacking out and falling on the maternity ward on my way to the shower! Ugh! I want that birth over again, minus the broken ankle! I do have a beaut of a baby boy (well, toddler at 20months) though which I'm super thankful for and a plate and screws that have kept my ankle together! Best wishes for sprout arriving :)
I've had six births and used this technic with five & six and can say they were my best births I'd had, thank you for sharing your experience guys x

I'm not going to lie..labour for me was really painful and I had an epidural as soon as I was in hospital however whilst I hated the pain I didn't hate labour. and I did enjoy it looking back nearly 5 years later

I'm 9 minutes in and still have no idea what it actually is. I gave up. Sadly, it's not like I'm ever going to experience childbirth anyway.
Hypnobirthing is a type of pain relief except it's 100% drug free! You learn how to breathe, relax and self hypnosis for the labour and birth- it's worth checking out!

Hi Gi! Thank you so much for this video! I haven't really been able to get a clear picture on what hypnobirthing is and thus had a completely wrong perception about what it is, as it does sound a bit hippieesque. However this video has completely changed my perception and when/if I am ever to be pregnant I will definitely look into it more and maybe see if the technique is for me.

I will definitely try this technique if / when I have another baby, whether I'll be able to remember all the things I've practiced and actually stay calm once the contractions kick in is another story though! lol but this is a great state of mind to be in when you go into labour.
