I love the okuma avenger series. I have several and also have an avengerabf 5000. I have been looking at the abf 1000 just havnt pulled the trigger yet. Thanks for the review

This reel works great for the iFish but I have a different setup with a Pflueger reel that I just leave the reel open and hasn’t failed me.

I picked up the 500 series at the end of last year at a sports show and hope to us it on Red Lake this winter I like the smaller size myself!
Only reason I run 1000s is for the bigger spool size and better drags
i have issues with my baitfeeder not disengaging in extreme cold i will turn it off manually and it is still engaged so imagine trying to real in a walleye with it set to the lightest setting lol
I take apart all of my reels and us Hot Sauce cold weather grease and lubricants it makes a world of difference
The1000 adds a little size for fishing outside in the cold while wearing gloves, mittens, etc.. All around easier to fish with in my opinion
When are you going to do another live ice fishing video?? We went back and forth a bunch last year and I want another Q & A!!

Have you tried the Shimano reel that has this option? It's got a rear drag system and the switch. I love rear drag reels!

@@DWSOutdoors no, the Okuma has the switch in the back but the drag is still in the front. At least on the one you showed in the video
There is also a drag in the back
I use a 1000 size for all my ice rods..and my panfish open water rods. It's a good size all around.
Yeah thats what I have come to find out and now almost never use my 500 reels
@@DWSOutdoors no I dont even have any 500 anymore. I go even bigger on my 36+ inch walleye rods especially in deeper water
I was contemplating going with a 2500 for my Commander but not sure if I want to invest in another reel lol
@@DWSOutdoors I've gone with a 2500 series for Lake Trout ice fishing with braided line due to how deep the fish are. Just wish the fish were more cooperative.
500's for sure for me. 1000's feel too heavy on 95 percent of the rods I use for ice fishing.
I felt them both before going with the 1000 as they are super light and you can't tell the difference between them!
I have the Ceymar 1000 abf its the shit.. I heard only major difference between the 500s is spool size
Have you tested the okuma trio bf40 compared to the avenger. Was it just price? I have the trio 40 and was thinking of getting the trio bf30 for ice fishing.
Sink or Swim Fishing I currently have the ABF-40 and enjoy it but I don’t use it enough to speak good or bad about it yet?

David M yep! I almost got some for crappie fishing in the shack on a dead stick but I like my slip bobber method

Thills do a good job but can ice up outside but if in a shack they work fine.
