That is so great that they also introduce Philippine folk dances to other teenage students. The modernize version was fun to watch which is more difficult than the original . The second group also combined elements from Singkil, while the third group doing the tinikling on the bench is quite a departure from the original version but also amazing to watch. Well done students, you not only get my nod, but praises from those who can't dance the tinkling, it is hard on your calf muscle and your ankle doing all those jumping steps. You all passed with flying colors. This is just one of what we do in our intramurals in the Philippines.

  • @theirbrotherhoodandfriends6101

The first group remembered me of my group (Tinkling as long as I remember). Because my family also lived in Philippines for 5 years and I studied to a school, my parents chose public school and one day, the teacher asked us to do a folk dance and I was like “Oh my god, how?” But my classmates (teammates basically) were so nice to me and were willing to help me. They were all just so nice and the dance is fun and romantic at the same time. The dude I was dancing with is so kind and helps me everytime I would get my toe stuck with the stick. It was such a good memory. Lahat sila mababait. Ingat kayo lagi dyan, mga kababayan!
Also, it took us 2 weeks to practice the folk dance.

To ALL those posting critical comments on the students' performances or the lack there of, suggesting do this, do that , please REMEMBER that these students tried to LEARN THE BASICS of the dance in a short period of time for this event that looked like a SCHOOL PHYS ED activity with INTERNATIONAL flavour. They barely know the different NUANCES that goes with the BASIC STEPS. Most of them may look like Filipinos to you, BUT...... they are still AMERICANS who grew up in the US.
My advice to you, STAND IN FRONT OF A MIRROR WHILE DANCING THE TINIKLING, RECORD IT, AND POST IT HERE ON CZcams.

i probably can relate in folkdances of the philippines since i've been a folk dancer since grade 1 to 4th year and competed in in provincial and regional tours during my high school. in contest proper criteria we don't usually modify steps and any required original elements of the dance, if so we need to submit modification to the organizer on what segment. modifications brings new technicalities and thrill to this folkdance. thank you for the upload, draws my memory back 20 years in the past.
