Abandoned- Californian/Gentleman`s Bungalow! Built 1925/Immaculate vintage interiors! Cellar too!

- This is one of the more elaborate examples of the Californian Bungalow style which dominated Adelaide`s growth from around 1916-1930 before Tudor and Art deco became the flavors. These more elaborate bungalows are also known as "Gentleman`s Bungalows" and the bungalow is found all over Adelaide and some entire streets are lined with them which shows how prominent they were. This style moved away drastically from the more ornate late Victorian and Edwardian style Villas for a more simplified building style to enable a cheaper bank loan aimed at returning soldiers form WW1.
Unfortunately for the more elaborate ones like this that sit on huge lots they get targeted for redevelopment. This one has the most intricate and eye pleasing interiors ive seen so far if I had to pick one. It seems when this home was built no expense was too much and Grand was the aim! And it was achieved. As far as some research has shown a resident was living here about a year ago and thank goodness no vandalism or graffiti has been done. I also found another kitchen root seller by accident this time. :-) Take a look in this amazing old Bungalow with me! Enjoy :-)
Hey guys I got to reply to a few comments last night and will be able to catch up on them later today, heading out again for more filming. Hope you enjoy this beautiful old Bungalow!! Cheers :-)
Another one bites the dust. Bloody shame
Why is this home not heritage listed??
It's such a shame we are losing beautiful old homes like this to dog box no character Crap shoots
It would be a horrible shame to allow this house to be destroyed !
We will be waiting
One word. AWESOME!
I can't fathom how anyone could allow the destruction of such an amazing home, that oozes so much character and charm.
I saw the same thing happen to my 1940's era family home that my Grandparents lived in for over 50 years. Once it's gone, it's gone. All the beautiful timberwork, ornate fireplaces, glass leadlight etc, is lost forever.
Well said Chris! How could someone want to tear this down! Surely this one is a good enough example of one to keep for historical reference as it is pretty much unaltered from what i can tell. Cheers for watching :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 Greed comes to mind to me. Seems to me it'd be cheaper to just move the house to another property. but noooooo, that would be way too easy
I agree. Such a beautiful place that could be a wonderful home to someone.
I want to cry, just knowing that this beautiful Home will be demolished, it's criminal. Such gorgeous fireplaces & surrounds. Love the light switches, and the polished wooden floors.
Cry is a fitting word for this one too Sandi.......So many nice things and to think it could be destroyed........Thanks for watching :-)
Developers don't see beauty...they see dollar signs. Greed eats their souls like a cancer.
Yep well said KLM, greed marches on. :-)
A helluva lot of vendors also just want the most $ they can get & don't care who buys their properties, be it developers or foreign investors. I was fortunate to sell several years ago to a young couple with kids - the man had grown up in the area but thought he'd never be able to afford to buy his own place there. I had some misfortune at the time but was grateful it became their good fortune 😊
I love the style of how this house was made inside and out. Those fireplaces are beautiful. Can't understand why they want to tear down these beautiful homes.
None of us can understand why Sally! It takes a cold money hungry type I guesss! lol Thanks for watching :-)
Greed is the only word for why
Oh mercy me! Omg this place is to die for. I absolutely hate that it's up for redevelopment. That's insane. It should a historic landmark. I could live there forever. Love everything about this one. It's the best one yet I think. Thanks for sharing!
I` hearing ya Lea!!!! This is one of my top 5 for sure, even higher at the moment haha. I`d love this place!!!!!!! Thanks for watching :-)
@Maysoun Beate Amen to that mate
Absolutely exquisite! No amount of money would have inticed me to sell!
I second that it is exquisite.
Haha well said! ;-)
I third that!!!! haha :-)
I`d have to agree with you John!!!! Even if I were millionaire i`d still want this home as its charm is too nice!!!!!!!! :-)
Just wondering if this house was taken via eminent domain. 😥😥
I have never seen a period home outside of an old Hollywood tour of Barbara Stanwycks old house that captured the era of the silent film stars home quite so well. if the place had been furnished to the time, it would be a film set. Thanks for the look-inside. Cheers!!
Hey Gary glad you enjoyed this one! I was really impressed and would so love to own something like this! :-) Im dreaming hahaha. Cheers for watching and I will look up Barbara now :-)
I lived in Hollywood for 5 years and saw lots of these bungalows, but they were usually smaller. Years later, back in Ohio I got on a TCM (old movie ch) kick. Barbara Stanwyck quickly became my favorite. Glad to know there is a tour of her house. I'm curious when she lived in that bungalow. AH, LOOK WHAT I FOUND! Search:
SILVER SCENES ( A Blog For Classic Film Lovers) Wednesday, January 20, 2016 The Homes of Barbara Stanwyck
...uh' oh' I'm in the mood to watch an old movie now. My favorite Stanwyck film is the one that helped to break her into stardom. Her 2nd Hollywood film- LADIES OF LEISURE (1930)
Now I feel like an exception for having seen many of these homes growing up. Mostly in Reno, Nevada. Lot's of older homes then. We had a row of old mansions I used to walk past on my way to Reno High School. They looked awful when I was up there a couple of years ago. Sad. The rich live in bigger elsewhere. I'd still like one of the old on that precipice near the Truckee River.
I love this house style. I think they call it Craftsman style in the US. I would buy this house if I could. It's beautiful!!
Hi Mariah :-) Yes craftsman is linked to the bungalow style here in Australia too! If I could id buy it too haha :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 I thought these a kind of houses you see in England country towns as well (they were based on English type design houses).
I've seen the wood cut outs in the hallways of this style bungalows (which I loved to see in other videos) but not to the extent that I've seen in other rooms of this house. How beautiful. Love❤️it.
GOD BLESS🙏
Be Safe!
Cathy🌻, Ohio 🇱🇷
You cannot get any home built these days with that much workmanship built into it.👍
Progress no destruction of beauty yes to me that is all tearing down such a lovely place adds up to,Rest in peace dear beautiful home.
Beautiful. The wood wasn't painted !!! Thank you for closing and locking the door 💜
One of the BEST homes so far!!!! The woodwork is fabulous!!!!!!! Such craftsmenship!!! You will never find that again!!!!
Nadine this is my Fav!!!!!!!! So glad I was able to film it, Yes you are right we will never find that detail and craftsmanship again.. Thanks for watching :-)
This house is a work of art. It could certainly be restored and fixed up. What a shame to see it get demolished.
Another one that still looks liveable. 😢 When they build house back in the day they put effort into them and made them beautiful. Thanks for the video. 😊
Thanks for watching Vicky :-) They sure do not make them like this now!!! I want this home haha :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 agreed mate i would buy this house no matter how expensive it was
WOW! Just...wow! I can't even begin to imagine how or why something like this gets slated to be knocked down. A perfectly gorgeous, and obviously very solid house! If you want to develop, go do it where the houses are decrepit and undesirable. But to knock down something like this is just outright criminal! Thank you for documenting this beautiful home! xo
Sorry to say Steph but this one is now gone too! This was my fav..........It shows again that developers do not even care what dwelling sits on the land, they just want the land.....
Love it! Gorgeous home inside and out! Move it don't destroy it!! Workmanship like that doesn't come cheap; someone really cared when the home was built. 5⭐s!!
I woud love this home and would buy it if I had the money! :-) I wish it got moved too Heather but they just do not do it anymore here really. My Grandfather`s trade was moving houses and it was mainly weatherboard and timber ones that could be put up on the truck in two halfs and even one whole sometimes. :-) Thanks for watching
There are really no words to describe the perfection and delite of this house!!! Thank you for letting us witness it. I've never seen anything so perfect artfully, and yet so comfortably livable.
Makes me sad when a place so beautiful and obviously loved by someone is to be torn down and replaced with multi-family dwellings.
Land hungry developers drool over a lot this size and offer mega bucks to owners unfortunately.....Thanks for watching Sandra :-)
Simple. So they can knock em down and build more of the same. Everything these days is ''disposable''. Hell when I was a kid if your telly went on the fritz you'd call a repair man to fix it. same with fridge freezers, washers, dryers even toasters. Those are the bygone days that'll never return
chaosdemonwolf1 yes very true.
What an incredible find! It breaks my heart to think of it being demolished. That should be a crime.
Criminal act sound about right for knocking something like this down! Thanks for watching yeunome s :-)
OMG how wonderful to find this HOME. The woodwork is just spectacular. Thank you for posting this.
Absolutley Patricia, this one is my fav home, really glad you love it too haha :-) Cheers for watching
So sad these beautiful places are going to be destroyed. Fallen in love with this old place and love the wallpaper and fireplaces. Class at it's best.
Glad you like this one Caroline, this is my fav house, so impressive. thanks foe watching :-)
The last bungalow was beautiful. It seems as if whomever lived there may have woodworking experience and did not spare any expense in creating a special place for themselves. Great find!
Hi Mariyln, thanks for watching :-) Yes the woodwork and overall feel to this place was amazing, I would hold on to this one if were mine :-) Cheers for watching
Timeless, priceless craftsmanship what an absolute beauty!! Don't blame you for taking extra private time to fully soak the senses. The' oh your so lucky to be so tall' really doesn't feel so when trying to access spaces with the small in stature being catered for ie cellars and most kitchen benches are so low your back is bent to use a sink!! Thank you so much for the look around, glad you beat the graffiti turds and demolishers for this one. Must watch again......
Yep bittersweet to get this one in great condition and then knowing it will be gone sometime......So much charm and details. Thanks for watching and yes being tall aint good for cellars haha :-)
So nice it's in good condition. No graffiti! I love older homes. The fireplaces were exceptional. The arches do not look altered. They are quite regal in nature. The painted fireplace was altered. I think furniture was in front of it as there was no grate nor soot. The lavender room made me think of a studious daughter at one point. The room next to the bathroom made me think the parents had originally had with a small child in the next room. They sure like privacy with all the locks on bedrooms and bathroom doors. My grandma would have been 19 years old going on 20. I'm 58. Imagining stories from her time coming into adulthood. My dad was born two years later. Both have died. Grandma in 2010 at 104 years.
I Like your assessment of this one Nancy! :-) It is amazing to think that these old homes have outlasted family and many other aspects of society yet developers only see the dirt they sit on......This one is my new Fav I think, I would buy this if I had the money!!! lol. Your Grandma had a wonderful and long life it seems. Many memories and much knowledge no doubt. Thanks for watching Nancy :-)
What a stunning old house full of character and charm! Such a shame to see this beauty be destroyed.
Still one of my favourites! Thanks for watching Anita :-)
Awwwwww, I love dark wood mantles. They are so beautiful. The house is move in ready. A little cleaning & you are done. WoW
Hi Artie :-) Those mantle are the nicest iv come across I think!!!! :-) I want to move in! haha. thanks for watching :-)
That home is FANTASTIC! I'd live there.
Me too Suzie! Even with no power! haha. Thanks for watching :-)
This is the third time to watch this one. I really like it!
Still one of my favorires too Gwendolyn 🙂
I love this house. I think that would be my dream home design.
OMG !!! I LOVE this house!!! 💕💕💕💕 I loved the hidden cellar in the kitchen. Thank you for sharing. It is soo sad that it will be torn down.😟😥😭
Hi Connie yes this is my Fav house I have found, so nice but also so sad it is all gone now.....cheers for watching :-)
It's the best home 😍 I have ever seen in My life!!!
It certainly had that effect on me too Vonda! I would live out my years in this home no worries!!!!!!! :-)
You and cellars ,,, your luck is in with them lately,,, awesome find again mate and what an interior. That wallpaper was obviously something to be proud of back in the day . Super job 👌👍
Lol yeah I found about 3 sellers in one week! :-) Lots of detailed interiors in here which I really liked. Would have been a grand house to live in mate! Wish it was mine! :-)
This is a cool video and a cool house. I watched the one from 1927 and now this one that was built in 1925. Me and hubby bought an old beach house that was built in 1913 in the Jersey Shore town of Keansburg, NJ. What's funny is there is really no difference between any of them and ours. Our house has got the ciellings ain't no different either. We got the beams from the dinning room to the living room and we got the posts between our dinning room and living room. This is a 2 bedroom Sears beach Bungalow. That's when Sears and Robuck decided to build houses back in the 1900's. We raised 2 kids in a 2 bedroom house. The storage room was big enough to be a small bedroom. Our son got the second real bedroom and we gave our daughter the storage room as a bedroom. Now that they are adults they traded rooms and Tommy sleeps in Brenda's old bedroom and shes got Tommy's. Its a small house but its good enough for us.
Great to read your story Kathy, glad you have loved and kept your home for so long, :-) These type oh homes I really love, very detailed and crafty look. I would live in this one til the end If it were mine, shame it has been demolished now for new crappy stuff......so sad. Gald you enjoyed this video, thanks for watching :-)
It should be a historical landmark home to be saved!!!😊❤️
Such a beautiful house!
I stumbled across your videos by accident last Friday, when you posted your latest one and now I am addicted to them.
I love walking through abandoned houses, Im an hour north of Sydney, breaks my heart they tear them all down, my dad was a builder, so much effort goes in to be destroyed for crappy highrise units...
I am determined to watch every episode of your adventures.
Hey Kylie thanks for watching, glad you stumbled on to this channel :-) There is something really cool about finding and walking through abandoned houses thats for sure! :-) And this one was my fav of all, so sad someone (Developers) knocked it down.........Many more videos to come! Speak soon :-)
Crying right now. How can they knock such a beautiful heritage home down. I'm lost for words..😢
Hi Jodie, yes still one of my favs this one 😔 cheers for watching 🙂👍
@@urbexindigo5164 Love watching your channel. Can't get enough of it..xx
What a beautiful home I'm shocked that it's abandoned!! You do a very good job of showing us the house Thanks so much keep up the great work and have a great day!!😀
The biggest, nicest little bungalow I've seen. Also the closest to move-in ready, abandoned house I've seen. I wonder what the owner go paid for leaving it for destruction.
Mate I want to move in there right now believe me!!!!!Haha criminal to let this go to developers but im seeing more and more of this as the weeks roll bye.........Thanks for watching Paul. :-)
Totally agree with you.
However... Whatever price it is they are getting will NEVER GOOD ENOUGH to get such beauty demolished!! I felt sad about the outcome of this house... Actually it is not just a house... Because its a place called home.
Well said Kieth :-) I just cant comprehend wanting to destroy something like this.........
@@urbexindigo5164 yeah... Sad.
@@keithng9853 Somebody's life once. Soon to be knocked down for those rubbish cookie cutter flats which anyone could demolish with just a few wheelie bins
A real piece of Art!!! So beautiful I hate the thought of it being torn down!!! The fireplaces are so unquie!!!
I totally agree Katherine, this is in my top 3 homes ive seen! And the sad part is that it no longer exists.......completely demolished now. Sad...... thanks for watching :-)
omg! indigo. i've never been partial to this style, but with the fantastic taste and attention to detail, i LOVED this! razing this one is just a crime! i would've refused to settle until the developers gave me enough money to put this one up on flatbeds and move the whole house! i'd move it to one of those beautiful places in the countryside that you have shown us before. (i think one was called 'adelaide' and one 'victoria' i think) and i would have a darling dream house in the beautiful country! haha, indigo, you are always BEHIND the camera and we forget how tall you are-i'm 4'11" -and you gave us a taste of what it's like for tall people to be crammed into such a small room! i've never seen a root cellar so cleverly hidden. someone so tastefully built this one i just wish it could be saved. really enjoyed another of your fantastic finds-another GREAT vid, thanks! love from the states, cindy.
The interiors really sealed the deal with this one Cindy :-) I would buy it if I had the money!!!!! :-) The home could be moved but it takes a willing person with a lot of money and that combo is hard to find.......I`m 6ft 5 Cindy so yes these cellers are always a task for me haha :-) Glad you enjoyed this one and cheers from Adelaide!!!!! :-)
Once again, absolutely beautiful!! Love the fireplaces with the beautiful woodwork and the decorative tiles!! Again, a shame that it's going to be demolished!
Hi April :-) This one is still up on my fav list at 1 I think. :-) The interiors were so good! Glad you also thought so! Thanks for watching :-)
I would buy this in a heartbeat. Gorgeous home and so unique!
That's about double the size of the 1927 bungalow I used to live in. This house is very handsome. Nice colour pink with the timber trim and that wallpaper is amazingly detailed. The mantles bring an image to me of men in suits with a brandy balloon and cigar. Great find Paul. 😲
I think that image would be correct back in the day Nessa :-) Glad to find it pristine but sad it is being planned for new development thanks for watching :-)
I love old houses. I live in a small 1940’s farm house. We just did a massive remodel and getting ready to move back in. We have lived there for 30 years and we never modernized it...just restored it. I love this house...Craftsman style is one of my favorites
The fireplaces an woodwork is beautiful! Some one needs to restore this beauty!🤓
I absolutely LOVE this home! What's wrong with it? They can't tear down a piece of history like that! So well preserved in time! NOoooo!! OMG, if I could, I would buy it!!! 😥😭😭😭
Nothing wrong with it Mary!!!!! developers paid big money to get the owners out as the land is huge and they will build some monsterous ugly unit complex on it!!!!!!!1 Such a shame. Thanks for watching :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 so, so sad...breaks my heart!😭😭😭
WOW this place is spectacular!!!!!! Best place yet in my humble opinion!!!! Everything about it is gorgeous - what a shame its being torn down :'( I've never seen such a small cellar either lol. Awesome find :-)
Yep, in my top 5 for sure Debbie! Filmed a pretty amazing one today too! :-) Yes the seller was tiny haha. Been finding lots of sellers lately including 2 today! Thanks for watching :-)
@@urbexindigo5164 I'm sure we're all looking forward to the new vids!!!! Stay safe :-)
I wonder if I'm claustrophobic as I felt a slight panic when it became clear how tiny the cellar was... The stairs looked much too narrow for one to escape.
Love that it hasn't been vandalized!.
I can't believe this house is not heritage listed it's absolutely beautiful
I agree Christine!! My fav house and it is gone now......so sad....thanks for watching :-)
Wow such a elegant bungalow no wonder It's called a Gentlemen's Bungalow the fireplaces alone are antiques such craftsmanship with the wood and I just love the doors and decorated to It's era of time. Thank you that was such a pleasure to walk around with you and so sad it is going to be demolished xx
Best fireplaces i`v seen I think Rosa, and the fact nothing has been removed, move in ready !!!! I wish haha thanks for watching :-)
Goodness, what an amazing house. I can't imagine the money spent to build and maintain this place. It is so beautiful. The details are wonderful. This is another one that once gone can never be replaced. It is one of a kind.
It sure is lladylobo1, I would love to own a place like this! I can dream haha, thanks for watching :-)
What an absolutely beautiful home. I hope that they don't demolish this peace of history!
Use to be a great place. Still looks good. Thanks for sharing.
Wow stunning! Just like the ones near Malibu Beach and Beverly Hills from the Golden Days of Film.
Such a great historical home. The craftsmanship that was put into the house is amazing. So sad that they will destroy it. Thank you for documenting it for us.
My pleasure Brittany, glad you enjoyed. Much character indeed. Thanks for watching :-)
What a beautiful house!!!
This house is stunning and I would love to live in that beautiful home
I am seeing this more than a year later, but had to comment. The two ornate wood fireplace mantels with the mirrors are irreplaceable, they would have built to the specs of gorgeous furniture. My husband is a woodworker and I can tell you that even building replicas today would be costly and take many hours of work by a master craftsman. I hope that they were salvaged and would be used in another home. Thank you for filming these historical homes as they are lost to redevelopment.
What an unusual Walk Through--really great
It has a feel of 1920s silent movies/AHS murder house/the people under the stairs. Saying that I love the style, it screams 1920s California interior and exterior. Absolute gem of a house
Great summary and this was has been my fav of late for sure........now for the bad part.....it has been completely demolished now........so new complex goinf up. Cheers for watching :-)
Urbex Indigo aw sad to hear that. But you did an amazing job of recording this place for us to enjoy :)
WOW!! So beautiful they dont make homes like this anymore.. great fine
Thanks for watching! :-) Glad you liked it too! :-)
This was an amazing video! It breaks my heart to see such a beautifuly decorated and kept house be torn down. All the built-ins were so lovely and the the trims all throughout the house. And what about those Beautifull ornate fireplaces! I just don't understand how those will just be allowed to bulldozed over, and gone forever! 😪💔😣
Great Job!! Keep up the great work! Be safe...❤🙏❤
Well said Brenda. :-) It seems the developers plans are in the stage of getting approved.....lets hope it falls through and it goes back to a home lover!!!!! This is my Fav one at moment. Glad you love it too! :-)
This is my favorite style house. Reminds me a bit like some in the UK and certain parts of Australia. Absolutely grand. Thank you for giving us a look inside.
In my top 5 for sure Peggy! Glad you enjoyed :-)
Just beautiful and a shame it will be demolished lots of history lost forever a real gem 💎 I know how you I feel the same way
I’m so glad we had you as our tour guide on this magnificent old home, because you always do s fantastic job of showing us everything. There are way too many beautiful details to list so I’ll just say awesome find! It’s a shame they’re tearing down all these historic homes?

Hi Linda, yes it sure is bittersweet with these old classics as you said knowing there are destined for demo leaves an empty feeling. Thanks for watching :-)
I just watched this on youTube this house blew me away with its character .I love the entrance love everything about it .Its by far the most beautiful one i have seen you film so far .So many awesome houses getting knocked down when there in imaculate condition .love love this house
Such an impressive place & a shame to be bulldozed for something else. I'd love to reclaim everything in there to use in other places. Such craft & the best building woods, trims, tile, treatments, details & processes. The wallpapers, fireplaces, the door windows are the old wavey water glass, paint techniques, corbels & ornate woodwork trims, built in shelving & fireplaces. Thx for this one! 😉👌
This one has become my Fav Marlene and I want it!!!!!!!! I wish. The details and layout I was so happy with. The front and back yard are perfect too!!!! So glad you loved it too and noticed all of those nice details!!! Thanks for watching :-)
Theis is my dream house. Thank you so much
Beautiful work.
Mine too Lulu :-) Thanks for watching
NICE HOUSE! Myself I did not care for all the added wood work. But the fire places, door frames, knobs, etc, were beautiful. I loved the hide away root cellar.
My fav house still A Bayless :-) Such a classy and craft home, well laid out and yes the cool cellar was great. thanks for watching :-)
I absolutely love it! It's stunning, elegant, clean and without anyone ruining it with graffiti! 😄
Still in fantastic condition Darlene. cant fathom how anyone could target it for new develpment!!! Thanks for watching :-)
I live in this city, I regularly drive past some of your explore. It brakes my heart and fine hard sometimes to watch the videos because we are loosing so many of these beautiful old houses.... it’s a crime to knock them down! Big fan though.
Hi Richard thanks for watching and commneting, I like hearing what other local feel about all this development. Unfortunately I went passed this today and they has started salvage, floors, mantles, windows and doors all gone!!! I will post some pictures in the community comments section soon. :-)
There is no way that I would have sold this place. I would be living in that beautiful bungalow. What ashame to let this go to waste. Nothing like that is being built today, what craftsmanship. Just subscribed so I'll be looking for the next video. Be careful and be safe in your exploring.
I could not agree more Leslie! :-) I really love this place. Nothing new compares to these old classics your right there!!!!!! lol. Thanks for subbing and yes there are many more to come! :-)
Beautiful. Absolutely love the kitchen
This place is a real stunner Debbie!!!!! Even if I were a billionaire i`d still want this home!!!! Thanks for watching :-)
That kitchen sink with the off to the side drain, and the stove surrounded by walls. Less grease splatter. That woods beautiful!! If I had the money to purchase it, I would.
Absolutely beautiful!! Makes want to move to Australia and buy that house. Thanks for taking us with you on the tour. Loved it.
The house is amazing! The way it reflects the time it was built in, please don’t tear it down! Someone spared no expense and it shows. I would definitely strip the paint off that painted mantle for sure! The house reflects so much that you cannot find in today’s building, the wood work and all the extras that we’re added, I wish I could keep it and care for it!
Hi Marcy :-) I also wish I could have it or someone save it somehow. They just cant replicate these anymore. Thanks for watching :-)
