So interesting to here how much these songs have evolved over almost 40 years of live shows.
I wish they would re record this as a studio jam. but this is so good. I love it
30 year anniversary. I think it calls for another complete show, who's with me? WILSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The time has come
Some of the choices Trey made - especially regarding tension building changes and how well tension is prolonged and then resolved throughout the compositions - are astounding to me as compositions of by a very young person.
The way he descends the bass notes of the Lizards' verse chords chromatically and pulls it off will always be awesome.
riro1024 You should study The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway which heavily influenced Trey writing hi thesis. It is a double album and has a story behind all of the songs, Trey mentioned The Chamber If 32 Doors as an influence in writing Gamehedge.
@@wtwrva And it was done by really young people as well.
In addition, I think the riff at the start of Colonel Forbin in the Dungeon Narrative is pretty similar to the backing riff in Broadway Meody of 1974.
@@zhuofanzhang9974 indeed!
Yes that is 100% true. Trey was obsessed with "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" (as well as most of the early Genesis, Peter Gabriel era) during the writing of TMWSIY. The Lamb (IMHO) is still a record that's WAAAAY ahead of it's time. Lastly, IMHO, Phish was FAR more of an art rock/progressive rock band during the early years. They rarely ever "jammed" at all. In fact most of the music was composed down to every clear-cut question and answer phrases like in most classical music. \m/
I honestly think this is a better rock opera than Tommy.
So weird that you mention Tommy as my wife mentioned it in comparison as well while we were watching it unfold on 12.31.23 at MSG live.....
People are really into Trey's muff the magic dragon college thesis! Maybe he should put more nosie to another children's book!? It seems to be the thing....😂
@@jackvanbrocklin44 I second that feeling after just watching.
Dope! Thanks for this, Phriend!
So that's what happened to that volleyball after he parted ways with Tom Hanks... WILSON!!!
I suppose this was Trey's senior year thesis?
I wish I would have had this video before I first saw phish in 1991. It would have connected many dots.....then.
A wonderful achievement for them in 1987!
Three thumbs up from here.
William Wiles humblebrag done like a boss
Only Trey! Thank you, Trey! We are so proud of you!
Is this the only known recording of "Ride On a Multibeast"? I don't recall Phish ever playing that piece when they did this saga live.
Mike is a bit hard to hear
lizard tail stew with lava salt an chunks of hot dog
So ..... is Possum actually a part of Gamehendge? no? Is it actually a piece of TMWSIY? Or just added on here?
Possum is the end of the road.
Why hasn’t anyone ever thought that like even if you ever had had to when you don’t even know if you know what i mean with a lower case I because i if you know what I mean
Boo bee ba dop doo badda bop so bop shoo opp
Yes
Camden Camden do you like pulled pork
@@jimothyjameson5232 do you like spoons?
Camden Camden indeed I do, I even play the spoons. You didn’t answer my question
Like if you had the tape of Trey thesis
Man I love drugs
most people would if they'd only give them half a chance!
What an odd story
Are you kidding me!? Puff the magic dragon college thesis put to nosie!? Dysfunctional bullshit...😂 no wonder people like it....
It's stupid and bad but calling the music "noise" is what keeps Phish fans thinking they know the secret: that the guitar playing is pretty cool. You're part of the problem!
@@thepuppethead1188 So Phish people perceive knowing the secret is listening to nosie!? Interesting, I did not know this, but should have guessed! Lifesaving gun 16 times in 2 minutes and nosie afterwards....No, noise is an accurate description! If you can't hear that you are the problem!!
@@Louis-ef4eb okay man,you sound reasonable and sensible I guess you're right. My mistake.
@@Louis-ef4eb "dysfunctional bullshit" ever heard of it?
