One of my fav parts of angel devil is how he parallels to himeno and her ghost devil contract. While ghosts represent the anger left behind the deceased and, the fear an angel could show the fear of the death of loved ones (I.e. how people say “person x is now with the angels” when someone dies. So when aki was partnered with Himeno, he was on his revenge quest against the gun devil. But his partnership with Angel shows how Aki became so tired of seeing his loved ones die
There are a lot of good parallels. I just picked up on how Angel and Aki start out believing they can't even pretend to like each other, exactly like Denji and Power before they became best buds. And there's also the nice foreshadowing with the city and country mouse fable first being mentioned back in the flashback to the death of Aki's family's.

An angel devil makes a lot of sense. When someone would see in an angel in the bible the first thing an angel would say is, "Do not be afraid." Angels, like seraphim's, were an amalgamation of a lion, eagle, bull, and a human with wings. I could understand why an angel devil would be pretty strong as well. Many would fear angels and the wrath of angels on heretics.
My theory as to why Makima cannot control those with strong emotions are kinda symbolic of a relationship of love, you have to give up control to have love but Makima literally is control, so trying to make a relationship would just wouldnt work, so people who have strong emotions triggered are free because its the literal opposite of control in a relationship. So it causes them to break free of Makima's control, thats just my theory though.

Let's assume that Aki only touches his hand for 3 seconds, 3 seconds of contacts costs 2 months of the lifespans, so it will cost around a year of your total life spans just to be in physical contact with angel for 18 seconds. Average male life spans is around 72.75 worldwide, minus your current age (average age of anime fan is around 18-25 ) , which mean you have around 47.75-54.75 years of lifespans to spare, 47.75*18 seconds = 859.5 seconds 859.5/60 = 14.325 minutes 54.75*18 seconds = 985.5 seconds 985.5/60 = 16.425 minutes In conclusion, you get to pound that angel bussy for 14-16 minutes straight before losing your life, which is more than enough for me cause I wouldn't even last 10 seconds in him
We really didn't get to see much of Aki and Angel's partnership, but the few chapters that we did, I really came to like Angel Devil, definitely one of my favorite characters and one of the best boy of CSM.
I had liked Angel from pretty early on but this helped me understand him so much better and I love his character a lot more. RIP to all of them, these deaths still affect me months after reading the manga
The last time I would watch CSM is the scene with the Darkness Devil. If there would be a scene with the Darkness Devil, I close Chainsaw Man and watch other animes. I want Angel with arms and not 'Names' Angel (if you get the joke you will know.)
I interpreted that the fear of angels is closely related to the fear of death, rather than being that of “biblically accurate” depictions of angels. When Angel puts the woman out of her misery by siphoning her lifespan, she’s already severely injured and on the verge of death. Angel comes into her line of sight, and she probably interpreted that as a form of “seeing the light” and knowing her life was over. I think you could also take the themes of regret throughout Angel’s life on earth during csm pt1 and work that into his character.

Even without the memories there to access, he still feels intense emotions for them, so while hes under her control, hes still got some emotional freedom, which shows when he disobeys her in bringing aki with him, and when hes the first to completely break free of Makima's control over him. Before that moment, he even asked something that shouldve been unthinkable to those under her control, he asks why Aki even likes her to begin with, a thought that doesnt seem to cross the mind of most anyone under her control. Angel has such emotional depth. Hes depressed and grieving despite the efforts of Makima's to make him obedient like the rest of those under her control.

Angel is almost like a meta joke sent by Fujimoto so Aki will have a Vergil-like figure to act as his confidant and guide him down the 9 circles of hell. They even go straight to hell and back only to finally end their destination in sunny, cold sea waters with Makima like going to the dark icescape with Satan.
I always loved Angel and he was always one of my favorites of the series (prob second after aki) and your video on him only makes me love him more, but also makes me realize just how sad his character is and how his arc completes(?) at least in this first part of the manga. I also never really understood the angel x aki thing but would see people talking about it and didn't know why, but I see now just how much Angel cared for aki and how it could be seen as some sort of love. That idea just makes it all so much more sad in the end :,(
I really hope angel comes back. After I finished the first part I was hoping to see more of him because of how much I loved his character, plus I was curious to know the true extent of his powers. He deserved a good ending, a peaceful life. C'MON HE HAS TO COME BACK.
worth note: There are angels very human looking that interact with humans the most. The further you get from regular human interaction the more abstract they start to look. Now the nonhuman ones people love to iterate as scary looking but in reality they tend to be vibrant but odd. (over exaggeration with number and position of eyes usually) Some would say weirdly/artistically beautiful. Examples: There's one that's made of several "wheels" with a fiery looking core with a vague shape in the middle. Or one with several bright wings of energy/light covering their whole body except the head so it look like a head within a mass of wings.
I do not believe there is a single text in the Bible that considers Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones as angels. In fact it seems contradictory as actual angels do not possess wings. So all angels genuine forms are humanoid.
As dark and terrible as the world of chainsaw man can it honestly still has a lot of that shounen spirit. I mean our main character literally goes around fulfilling people's dreams and has been boosted by the power of friendship multiple times. I think it's nice. And I like the consistent theme that many devils and humans could actual come to like each other if under the right circumstances. It reminds me of devilman that way. We'll see if this story has as tragic an end.

MANGA SPOILERS! RELEVENT What I love most about angel devil is that he's one of the characters to survive the longest, despite being the one who wishes to die the most.
Another piece of influence I can see with the Angel Devil is the Peri of Persian mythology. Peri’s are fallen angels that are said to be the ancestors of Djinn and Fey. They tend to be benevolent and don’t harm humans. Their very peaceful despite being fallen.

As described in the manga, devils who die are reborn but as different reincarnations of themselves. So if angel is reborn he’ll be a different person. This is easily proven by how Makima didn’t return even after the control devil was reborn (twice possibly).

I don't think there's any proof a specific incarnation of a Devil can return after being killed, though I haven't started Part 2.
naw this is a contradiction: Makima has memories and a plan built up with knowledge from both sides so some aspect of her memories or personality must be retained during reincarnation by definition and must be enough that she could reasonably make her plan around it. You're misunderstanding because of Power's ask since she won't be reincarnated as she was merely a fiend: she's making a contract with Denji to find the actual blood devil and find a way to make friends with it knowing full well it will not be her.
I love it when someone talks about how powerful Angel is. Fujimoto likes to encompass many meanings in a single fear, a single demon, so I think Angel means the fear of the divine, of God, even of the church or religious institutions and rites, not just angels.
Angel being similar to azrael makes a lot more sense as when people commit sinful acts they are fearful of Heavenly retribution for their action. It's like being fearful of going to hell or Judgement day when God decides who goes to heaven and who perishes.
i think the cool thing is that devils aren't actually from any religion, but that they're just the manifestation of humanity's fears. so there isn't actually angels or devils in the way that real world religions view them. so it's really interesting when he tells a woman that it's okay and that she'll make it to heaven, he himself knows that he doesn't know if those words are true because his existence isn't from a higher being making him, his existence is from humanity themselves.
I thought it would have been a cool twist if the Angel Devil was born from the devils' own fear of Angels. Too bad he doesn't exist in the NGE universe, there's enough fear of Angels there to make him nearly unstoppable lol

Angel is almost like a meta joke sent by Fujimoto so Aki will have a Vergil-like figure to act as his confidant and guide him down the 9 circles of hell. They even go straight to hell and back only to finally end their destination in sunny, cold sea waters with Makima like going to the dark icescape with Satan.

I always loved Angel and he was always one of my favorites of the series (prob second after aki) and your video on him only makes me love him more, but also makes me realize just how sad his character is and how his arc completes(?) at least in this first part of the manga. I also never really understood the angel x aki thing but would see people talking about it and didn't know why, but I see now just how much Angel cared for aki and how it could be seen as some sort of love. That idea just makes it all so much more sad in the end :,(
I really hope angel comes back. After I finished the first part I was hoping to see more of him because of how much I loved his character, plus I was curious to know the true extent of his powers. He deserved a good ending, a peaceful life. C'MON HE HAS TO COME BACK.

There are angels very human looking that interact with humans the most. The further you get from regular human interaction the more abstract they start to look.
Now the nonhuman ones people love to iterate as scary looking but in reality they tend to be vibrant but odd. (over exaggeration with number and position of eyes usually) Some would say weirdly/artistically beautiful.
Examples: There's one that's made of several "wheels" with a fiery looking core with a vague shape in the middle.
Or one with several bright wings of energy/light covering their whole body except the head so it look like a head within a mass of wings.

I do not believe there is a single text in the Bible that considers Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones as angels. In fact it seems contradictory as actual angels do not possess wings. So all angels genuine forms are humanoid.

As dark and terrible as the world of chainsaw man can it honestly still has a lot of that shounen spirit. I mean our main character literally goes around fulfilling people's dreams and has been boosted by the power of friendship multiple times. I think it's nice. And I like the consistent theme that many devils and humans could actual come to like each other if under the right circumstances. It reminds me of devilman that way. We'll see if this story has as tragic an end.

wasn't there a scene with angel when the darkness devil was introduced? where you can clearly see the "Oh fuck" look on his face looking at Aki and was pretty much staring at Aki the whole time, that whole scene had little dialogue but you could see the worry on his face.

Another piece of influence I can see with the Angel Devil is the Peri of Persian mythology. Peri’s are fallen angels that are said to be the ancestors of Djinn and Fey. They tend to be benevolent and don’t harm humans. Their very peaceful despite being fallen.

As described in the manga, devils who die are reborn but as different reincarnations of themselves. So if angel is reborn he’ll be a different person. This is easily proven by how Makima didn’t return even after the control devil was reborn (twice possibly).
i think it is possible for them to kinda remember their previous life? thats what i get from powers's request for denji - to find the blood devil and be friends with them and somewhat she might return or something......

@@LaviaChan A whole ass year late, but I took that as just Power being unrealistically hopeful for the sake of encouraging and comforting Denji (and herself, possibly), and making for a powerful, hopeful scene. I don't think there's any proof a specific incarnation of a Devil can return after being killed, though I haven't started Part 2.
naw this is a contradiction: Makima has memories and a plan built up with knowledge from both sides so some aspect of her memories or personality must be retained during reincarnation by definition and must be enough that she could reasonably make her plan around it.
You're misunderstanding because of Power's ask since she won't be reincarnated as she was merely a fiend: she's making a contract with Denji to find the actual blood devil and find a way to make friends with it knowing full well it will not be her.

I love it when someone talks about how powerful Angel is. Fujimoto likes to encompass many meanings in a single fear, a single demon, so I think Angel means the fear of the divine, of God, even of the church or religious institutions and rites, not just angels.

Angel being similar to azrael makes a lot more sense as when people commit sinful acts they are fearful of Heavenly retribution for their action. It's like being fearful of going to hell or Judgement day when God decides who goes to heaven and who perishes.

i think the cool thing is that devils aren't actually from any religion, but that they're just the manifestation of humanity's fears. so there isn't actually angels or devils in the way that real world religions view them. so it's really interesting when he tells a woman that it's okay and that she'll make it to heaven, he himself knows that he doesn't know if those words are true because his existence isn't from a higher being making him, his existence is from humanity themselves.
