    thumbs up if you think this singer sounds just like the frontman of Australian band the Triffids?

    I try to sing this song. To myself of course, cos I'll never reach these notes!

    "Lost in the delta of Venus,
    Lost in a welter of shame,
    Deep in the forest of evil,
    We embark on the new crusade ...."
    My God !!! Brilliant.

      Absolutely unreal lyrics,Paul Simpson should be recognized as one of the lyricists to come out of Britain,this song alone would quantify that,but 2011's album "The Coldest Winter For A Hundred Years" just puts an exclamation mark on it !

      Absolutely. Heard this on the radio last night and thought the QOTSA song must be a cover of this. Total rip-off.

    I think the vocals were recorded in a nightclub khazi-great acoustics apparently. Cld be an urban myth tho.

    One of the finest songs ever recorded, coupled with some of the worst production ever achieved! Shame really.

    • @michaeldaly1459
      @michaeldaly1459 Před 4 lety +8

      It was 'produced' by the band's mate Pete De Frietas of The Bunnymen, who IIRC paid for the studio time. He hadn''t a clue what he was doing. The recording is in Mono because he pressed the wrong button.

      @@thekarachannel4281Yes, I think it makes it sound like it could have been a Postcard Records release. It adds to its charm, like the original version of Falling and Laughing by Orange Juice compared to the Polydor version.

    • @robhaunui3343
      @robhaunui3343 Před 5 lety +1

      Paul Simpson could certainly be placed on the same pedestal as Ian Curtis,a much under-rated and acknowledged songwriter.

      why compare, they are two distinct bands each approaching a similar subject from a different angle.
