Pulled By DVSA (VOSA) Overweight And Infringements.....

  • In this weeks truck vlog we get stopped by DVSA for a random check and found to be overweight with some Tachograph infringements,. Then it's off to London with a walking floor trailer full of scrap metal.
This video is to highlight the vital role the DVSA play in keeping our roads safe. If it wasn't for this enforcement there wouldn't be fair competition in the haulage industry, drivers would be forced to work unregulated hours with poorly maintained trucks on our roads resulting in worse working conditions for us truck drivers.
It also goes to prove that if you are polite and professional, even with minor offences they are fair and objective as long as there is evidence you are doing your best to work within the law. This is my 3rd encounter with the DVSA and it has always been a positive and professional experience.

How many times I got stopped by the scalies in Aussie. Them and the cops are much of a muchness. Sometimes you get a fresh-out-of-the-academy arsehole with a point to prove, sometimes you get a squaddie with a bit more professionalism and life's wisdom. I treat them mostly all the same. Pulled in? Full stop at the stop sign and books out. There are only ever two things they're after. Logbook violations and weights. Anything else is a bonus😂. Threats I don't respond to, because if they're going to do you, they're going to do you, and your opinion doesn't make the square root of f**k all difference to them. Just keep a level head, a civil tongue in your head and measure your words. Worst case they ground you and you get a bit of shut-eye😂. That said, I nearly got arrested once in South Australia because I got profoundly pissed off with a bastard who dobbed me in for "drug driving" when I was only trying to let him past. There is no immunity from fuckwits.😂

Will have their tacho records for the passed 2 months pulled, and they'd fine you £200 for each infringement, including slight overspeeds drown hills etc, and they'd make extra sure they find something wrong with the rig! It can get expensive if you don't pretend you appreciate what they're doing!

That time before the lights came on was them reading your second generation tachograph remotely. It will undoubtedly have been your tacho infringements that got you pulled.
Only been pulled by them once, it was the bulging curtains that drew attention, but the last laugh was on me because the 180 bags of polystyrene loose fill I was carrying didn't even total at half a tonne.
P.S. I had a lucky escape on chilled delivery last year, my unit and the double deck trailer I was dragging, weighed in at 49.6 tonnes. Had to get some pallets offloaded before I could continue my journey on to company HQ at Leicester.

Thats Very lucky, i think i had around 5 pulls and most of them were on crossing the scotland england border and i think manchester area..there was 1 pull in wales -> vosa got a whiff of drivers using tacho breaks while being loaded and staying in the truck(where there was no use access to canteen/food) so technically its poa...i didnt know they had no canteen/rest area but I never allow TMs or the transport office to "manage" my breaks and my idea of a break is uninterrupted with an ability to use my spare time freely/access to food/no pressure from others wanting the truck to move -> so this loading business did not fit my criteria of break and I kept to the rules which saved myself a ticket when they picked me off rolling off out the company. Sneaky, just like coppers hiding in bushes waiting for an excuse to get you 😒 glad im out of the industry too, though i can teach cpc courses and its better being taught by someone who has a Tshirt of 11 years stretch from machinery, abnormal loads, liquid flamables to international work. Brad Haughton: The instrument that is used here for enfocement is Weigh In Motion (WIM). Personal preference is for a multiple deck weighbridge, as you can get all of your weights while you are stopped. Driving over, no matter how slow, introduces errors from suspensions, rims, shock absorbers, engine speed variations and even ground movement from the vibration of the vehicle driving over.
