  • Site lap of the Long Loop (Competitive Loop) out at Estrella Mountain Regional Park for the MBAA Race that is coming up. It has a good mix of everything including rocks and hills! Lots of climbs but the course is very doable. I walked a couple of sections for various reasons, either it was above my skill level, I missed a pedal, or I was just to tired LOL.
    Phoenix trails are great and they're everywhere no matter where you're at in Phoenix...I guarantee there's a trail system near by. If you find yourself heading to phoenix be sure and take your bike or go rent one for the day, so worth it!

    Can you guys let me know what the quality looks like on your end? I tried something a little different.

      Awesome quality. What kind of entry level full suspension bike would you recommend?

      Gives us something to crush later/next time! I need to get back out and ride Estrella, it's been WAY too LONG.

    Fun video to watch and very funny commentary. Looks like your recorder has some type of image stabilization because the picture wasn't shaky at all. If it is doesn't, you did a good job mounting it.

      Tom I'm using an EVO SS Gimbal with a GoPro Hero 4 and it basically stabilizes it to whatever setting I choose. Makes it nicer for playback. :) I wish I was that smooth on the bike haha.

    Nice trail! That long climb before the race track kicked my butt for sure but what a ride!

      For sure! You know which climb I really liked even though it was a slight burner and technical? The real rocky one, I actually didn't put it in the video but I thought of it as a small waterfall climb. (No water of course). Thanks Fight Back!

      Everybody else was probably pre-riding the McDowell Course since that race was the next day. I'll be loading that video real soon, talk about heavy breathing LOL. It was a new kind of experience in the pain cave for me.

    Are these the trails by the race track?
    I just wintered in Estrella. Did most of our riding in the west side of regional park and FINNS.

    Great job. Checking out your videos as I see you checked out my mbaa race at this trail. The #1 tip I can give is to keep that momentum especially over the large boulders on the second half of the trail. On my video you’ll see a biker flipping over his handle bars mainly because he was going to slow. I made up most of my time on the technical parts of this trail as others slowed down I sped up. In my own opinion it is much safer to go faster. :) the 2nd thing that helped was learning to climb well standing. In the past I use to sit and climb. Now I sit on the ones that require I have proper balance and weight on both wheels and stand and pedal on the ones that aren’t so technical. Hope that makes sense. If you have any questions feels free to ask. Good luck on your race!

      You're 100% right! I noticed on a couple other sections that were just as rocky or technical that I breezed right through as long as I didn't hesitate! Something I'm hoping I can do during the race is just go and know that I made it through most everything. My buddies started working on me with standing as soon as I might normally bail and just power through on the climbs. It's helped tremendously!!! You racing it?

    • @1alpz
      @1alpz Před 6 lety

      Powering through allows you to keep good momentum. Another habit I picked up was to learn not to use my lowest gears unless I absolutely need a bail out gear. I learned if you push a little harder on a tougher gear not only do you keep rolling faster but you don’t get gassed out as fast. For example, when hitting an incline my buddies usually transition to their granny gear right away and most times gas out. Not only do they gas out but also climb slower even though they are pedaling faster. Most time this is when I get distance. I pedal slower (because it’s a harder gear) but I roll faster. I’m also clipped in which gives me double the power by having the pull and push. You probably already know all this and do it however I thought I would share anyways Incase others read this. :) As for racing.. no I won’t be racing or haven’t done any others since that one video. One of my goals was to at least do one race which I did. Maybe one year I will do a few more. For now I’ll continue riding all over Arizona. Next on my calendar is The whole enchilada in Moan Utah in March. I Subscribed to your channel and I’ll be looking for your race video. Best of luck.

      Andy you touched on a subject that I struggle with and that's how I want to climb. When I first started...I would just stay in the hard gear and hammer through but everyone kept telling me to shift down (or up) but I hate that spin out feeling or pedaling a ton and not getting a lot of bang for your buck so now I'm working on trying to find that middle ground. Probably real close to what you're suggesting. I'll work on that the next ride I do and see how it feels...it would allow me to gain as much momentum as I can and then continue to power through to the top. Stay tuned...
      I hear you about the racing...my ultimate goal is to just get faster and get that cardio up so I can keep up with my friends out on the trails we ride and then also if I go somewhere and ride with other people I may not know! Lucky you on Moab, I might be heading there in May for a girls trip...we'll see. I watched a couple videos of the trails we would be riding and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a wee bit nervous about the exposures there, eeeeek. :)

    • @1alpz
      @1alpz Před 6 lety

      On your next ride don’t use your granny gear, stay on the second from last gear. See how that feels, as this gets easier or your legs get stronger and use to the new pain move up another gear. Usually this is the sweet spot and the one that makes a difference. This is the same gear I use when I need a fast burst in order to climb up larger technical boulders. I like to think I’m a good MTB trainer haha.
      Let me know how the new technique works out.
      As for Moab. You have the perfect bike with plenty of travel and remember being a confident rider will keep you safe. Just don’t be over confident that will get you hurt. :) you’ll love Moab, the landscape is amazing!

      Thanks FatBoy Cheto, It was love at first sight on this one! Kind of glad the Santa Cruz Hightower I had on order sort of fell through! How do you like your Carbine? One of these days I'm going to try out a 29er, have no idea what that feels like out on the trails.

      Love it, but after doing some demos on some Pivot 27.5 bikes, I am wanting to add that tire size to my arsenal.

      I remember the first time I did this trail...I’d heard about these climbs! I got half way or maybe even close to the end and they were a bit brutal but I was like whew, glad that’s over! Only to be hit with that last climb when it should be a decent back to the lot. LOL!! Haven’t rode there in a long time.
