    After seeing this video I decided to go for the national haifu, but as I didn't know which one to choose (I like harder blade for blocking), I tried the national white, which is in the middle of the yellow and the black.
    I have blue and orange sponge, provincial. What I can tell is that compared to the regular haifu, it's a lot stronger, I used 2 layers and it became uncontrollable at least for me. After one week of the booster it plays very crisp, with a lot of spin. But the only downside is that it's very sensitive to spin, so blocking a strong topspin is very difficult compared to unboosted rubber, you have to be absolutely relaxed and control the angle or it will go out. But, the upside is that if you counter the topspin, the reaction is very good. So mainly it works for very strong loopers.
    So for the ones who are going for it, I recommend to not use more than one layer, at least with provincial quality.

    • @ThePongProfessor
      @ThePongProfessor  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I don't like using too many layers as it generally softens the sponges too much .

    Hi Pong Professor, thanks for all the effort you put in making these videos, great stuff! I have a question, to my understanding by boosting the rubber we are basically making the sponge swell so it becomes softer and more elastic. So what is the difference between 1) just use a rubber with softer and more elastic sponge, and 2) buy a rubber with hard and not so elastic sponge the boost it?

    • @ThePongProfessor
      @ThePongProfessor  Před rokem

      I think the biggest difference is that the interface between the topsheet and the sponge feels more dynamic and elastic when boosted. Otherwise you are right. One could simply use a softer sponge.

    Many thanks for doing this comparison! I would have only one more question: are there some of these boosters having a longer time for the effects to wear off? I guess, FTL is one of them, but for example, I'd be interested also in the Kailin booster's wear-off time.

    • @ThePongProfessor
      @ThePongProfessor  Před 2 lety +9

      Yeah, as I explained to Aleksandr, I don't have the time to study longevity of booster effects. Checking this for six boosters would take at least half a year (booster effect is likely to last at least 3-4 weeks, which corresponds to a minimum of 20 hours of playtime --> at least 120 hours of playtime. I play roughly 6-8 hours per week at the moment). I have way too much equipment to test, which is why I rarely comment on longevity (except if I play with a blade/rubber myself).

  • @shikharsingh3961
    @shikharsingh3961 Před rokem

    I have some questions regarding boosters:
    1) what is the chemical composition of these boosters? I saw some videos online using Baby Oil / Olive oil etc. Are the boosters that you tested also oil based or something else?
    2) Does boosting reduce Lifespan of Rubbers(topsheet/sponge)?
    3)In India, we use Omni Chemical Vulcanizing Fluid to stick our paddles with rubbers (it's a product by seahorse polymers and is originally manufactured for the purpose of fixing tire/tube punctures.) It also has a boosting effect but i am not sure about it's chemical composition either.
    If you can get your hands on it then do try it. It's plain and simple just use it like you would use a water based glue.
    Thanks in Advance.

    • @ThePongProfessor
      @ThePongProfessor  Před rokem

      Thank you for your comments.
      1) I believe the boosters are most medium-long alkanes (C10-C16). I have never used baby or olive oil for boosting.
      2) Boosting increases the risk of delamination between the topsheet and sponge (especially the H3 blue sponge is prone to this) and chipping of the rubber at the edges (due to increased tension). The durability of topsheet grip is unaffected imo.
      3) I believe the vulcanizing fluid essentially is speed glue that is packed with VOCs and thus really illegal.

    Do you think it is worth getting into this type of tuning of your equipment when you have played table tennis for only four months? I play with unboosted H3 neo on a stiga offensive classic blade ... it is very slow and very spinny (+somewhat unconsistent and need a lot of care (plastic sheets, cleaning and whatnot) to sustain its properties in the thousands of hours needed to gain a proper skill level). Videos of me playing are on my channel.

    • @ThePongProfessor
      @ThePongProfessor  Před 2 lety +1

      I think you should focus on developing a solid technique base first, and then move on to a faster blade (e.g., a 7-ply all-wood or a 5+2 composite blade). Then, once you reach the equivalent of a USATT ~1800 rating, you can start thinking of tweaking your rubbers. Blades have much greater impact than boosting.

      @@ThePongProfessor Thanks for replying way back. I have kept to the same blade now for around 15 months, the Stiga Offensive Classic. I decided about half year ago to try Yasaka Rakza Z on forehand. It works great with this blade and I dont have to think about boosting. I have allready researched and bought a blade that I want to try next, the Avalox P500. It is very similar in construction to the one I got, but people online seem to like it way more. My rating has not gone up from 1000 (Norway), but my coach is pointing out noticable improvements every month. I lose a lot of matches from the lack of experience and tactical ability. I am not adaptable to different playing styles yet. Do you think its a mistake to change to the Avalox P500 before having played two years with the one I got like I planned, seeing as it is slightly faster (Stiga OC sits right in the middle of ALL+ and OFF-, AVX P500 is OFF-)? Most people comment that the Avalox blade has much better control and I am wondering if the way the blade performs more consistently may help me. BUT, and this is a big BUT, I wonder if this legendary Avalox blade only has great reviews because the reviews are old, and that the standard for table tennis blades has increased over the years.

    • @ThePongProfessor
      @ThePongProfessor  Před rokem

      @@z0uLess Hey - I haven't tried the Avalox myself, but as a general observation, I will say that you should not expect major jumps in ratings BECAUSE of equipment changes. Personally, I play +/- 50 rating points of my level irrespective of the equipment that I am using. Yes, you should try different equipment to find setups that you "like". If you have more fun playing, you are more likely to play more, try more, and THEREBY become better. I think the Avalox 500 will be a very modest change. Have you considered trying a blade that has a different composition. The Stiga/Avalox have a relatively unusual composition, that is, koto - spruce - ayous - spruce - koto. If I was use, I would consider trying a 5-ply or thin 7-ply blade that has a limba/ayous construction as they offer more feeling, which is beneficial for developing players.

      h3 boosted is just way different. + booster is so nice for amateurs who pay for everything from their pockets, i.e. it allows to rejuvenate old rubbers, a $20 bottle of booster is enough to prolongates ~ 6 rubbers life for like 1 extra year (1 layer boosting done every 3 months) => with average h3 $25/rubber price you'd save ~$150...

      @@andreika6681 yes but i like the mega control i have when is unboosted , i have a really powerful forehand and with the rubber unboosted i still have a very fast and spinny stroke ,

      Yeah, there is a strong financial incentive to boost.

      Yup. One needs a fast swing though to maximize power.

    Please stop wearing masks for the videos
    It is quite annoying for the eyes of the watcher
    Thank you

      1) It is my YT channel and I will upload whatever I want, wearing whatever I want. 2) How about you appreciate having the opportunity to watch content that costs you nothing, but that takes considerable time to produce, rather than commenting on something that has nothing to do with the topic of the video. 3) You are welcome not to watch the video and to ignore this channel. 4) We were required to wear the masks at the time this video was shot. 5) You know nothing about our health status, so perhaps don't comment on somebody's medical decision. Next stupid comment and you will be blocked from this channel.
