  • Here's a quick and fun experiment I did after speaking to Ann of Neptune's Harvest ( • Understanding fish fer... . She said that she experiences great germination after soaking seed in her fish fertilizer. Given the varied feedback on Floret zinnia seed germination, I decided to put it to the test!
    This video is not sponsored by Neptune's Harvest but I love their fertilizer. This is the fertilizer I used in this video and I use it regularly for my flowers and vegetables: amzn.to/3W4XI4U

    Thank you for sharing this! You have a really unique approach to flower farming. This video was based on a "scientific approach" to seed starting. A lot of your content is based on things that others don't talk about, like the financial aspects of flower farming. I enjoy watching your channel grow. My only issue is with the length of videos. Please don't take this as a criticism. Right now, I have 10 videos on different subjects queued up and each one is about 20 minutes long. If I watch all of them, that is 3 hours of videos on a night where I have to work the next day and have other obligations. I look for videos of my favorite CZcamsrs that are 15-20 minutes max. This video fit the bill so I watched it and I learned. You don't need to change anything based on comments but I wanted to share my thoughts. I wish nothing but the best for your channel and your life!

      Thank you for this feedback! It's great to hear different perspectives on this and I will take this into consideration.
      I'm not sure if you're aware, but I've taken some of my longest videos (interviews & youtube lives) where there is a ton of information and turned them into podcast format. This would also allow you to listen to them in the car or while you're multitasking. The podcast is called "Blooming Profits" and you can find it on whatever podcast app you use! I did this because I recognized that it's alot to ask someone to sit in front of their TV or have their phone on for over an hour, especially as this content can be consumed easily without the videos!

      @@bareflowerfarmNo, I was not aware you had made podcasts. It is one of the reasons I haven’t watched many of your interviews, just too long. I’ll check them out at my next opportunity. Thanks!

    Thank you so much for sharing this 🙏🏻❤️ I also want to take back my comment in our previous collab. Turned out that my Floret Zinnias Alpenglow bloomed before Benary’s Giant and other zinnias that I started the same time. And I love it!! Golden Hour is the most productive one and I love the color so much!

    I have a friend who owns a nursery here in California. She grows her own plants. She said that she doesn’t use floret anymore due to a consistently poor germination rate. That was my small flower farm experience too

    All of my florets were close to 100% germination. I just sowed them in homemade compost. And I think I bought almost every variety lol!

      That’s awesome to hear! I wonder if the poor germination talked about by flower farmers was due to people trying to start them too early and hot providing enough warm temps?? 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I wanted to try the Floret zinnias, but they were all varieties that grow too tall for me. Zinnias (and cosmos) are bad self regulators, meaning they will try to grow to their full height regardless of their situation -- like a shallow growing vessel. Sunflowers self regulate, you can plant a variety that is supposed to grow to 8 feet in a shallow container and it will dwarf itself to maybe 1.5-2 feet.

      Ah interesting. Is there a reason why you dont want to grow tall flowers? Is this more for landscaping purposes?

      @Fabdanc Před měsícem

      @@bareflowerfarm great question! They are grown in containers on a balcony. Any taller and they would fall several floors to the ground or meet a similar fate from the wind.
      That same challenge also has positives though. The increased breeziness actually prevents powdery mildew from setting in.

    To funny! I read an old farm book last year and they did test on veggies seeds that were soaked in compost (animal manure).

      I'm not sure if you've seen bare mountain's content on CZcams! Specifically, they soak their ranunculus corms in a high quality compost tea and they've said it makes a world of difference in how healthy the plant is. I'm going to try to save seed next year and see if this hypothesis plays out. I would need at least a hundred of a single variety to see if it works!
      Not sure if your farm book said this- seed soaking, especially in higher temps is a method used to help mitigate disease and viruses too! There's alot to unravel here, but so little information freely shared, especially on cut flower seeds!
