Actually abyssal plains are often very barren due to a lack of food, they’re essentially underwater deserts, that’s why whalefalls are such special events, and that’s why animals there get big, to move bigger distances with less energy

i knew you would play this map, actually was gonna suggest it to you
    few things to note:
    1. the blinking blue lights in the angler station signifies the station is out of oxygen, you will need to go to the room with the O2 canisters to regenerate the oxygen
    2. there's a lot of iron lung 'inspired' aspects, like the camera screen, the portal or "void" as it's called in the files, heck, most of the sounds are from it
    3. i found a couple of things in the files, mainly the "chest" sound file that you found when entering the void, its sound file is named "timer", despite that i don't really think it does anything. in the angler station, you can find a security room, with a polaroid(?) photograph of what looks like an office with the caption "HOME SWEET HOME", its material name is insidejoke, funnily enough

    • @leljdam3189
      @leljdam3189 Před 2 lety +61

i worked on some of the textures on the map and know the creator personally, the polaroid on the desk is a joke based on a thing that happened while testing.

I had no idea how big this map was. When me and my friend were role-playing on it all we new was the main base and the submarine. I remember we were role-playing as apart of a crew with NPCs making up the rest. I had made this make shift sub that I had sent through the airlock but because of how poorly made it was it ended up getting stuck on the slope in front of the base. So I went out there decided to give my friend a good scare. Take in my friend has thalassophobia. I went out there and turned off the light on the sub to make up that I had lost it. I quickly then stopped talking after following the path. I then placed a corpse outside of the window in the upper room. He got a big scare from that then went out into the water himself to find me. I then placed a corpse with my player model and changed my player model to the corpse skin. I tied my corpse to the light just before the flickering one then moved to the one ahead of the flickering one. He was so scarred upon seeing the corpse and wouldn't continue forward, so I ran out of the dark at him and got a harpoon to the face.

Your commentary at 36:00, yeah, this is what I did & it is what I love about this map. I used a drone from the Drones Rewrite mod & used it as an auxilary exploration unit. It was a lot of fun bouncing between the main sub, the drone & my own navigation skills to uncover everything in this map.
This map is like a game within a game thanks to the level of interactivity with it. Just let your imagination run wild.

"[this map] is touching on a number of my greatest gaming phobias [...] takes place on several bases at the bottom of the ocean."
By God, if you haven't already, you should do a Soma playthrough. Easily fits that criteria as well as being one of the finest horror/psychological horror games ever made. It's mostly about environmental storytelling and dialogue between characters, but there are some enemies. If you prefer, it has a mode where the enemies can't really hurt you, so you can just enjoy the environment and what's going on around you rather than dealing with run-and-hide-style gameplay mechanics that are (in my opinion) lackluster. If you haven't experienced the game, try to go into it totally blind.

When you pressed that button in the oxygen room, that didn’t deplete the O2, that refilled the tanks. The blue flashing light means the base is out of oxygen and you are rapidly losing health, meaning you have to run to the O2 room and refill the oxygen. Also, there’s a minor detail you missed in the security room. It has some weapons in there like a harpoon and crossbow, and the panel on the back wall allows you to activate several lockdown doors as well as locking yourself inside the security room

There are many things you've missed in here that I think are worth coming back to.
For starters, the lab has this little hatch, right in front of the samples' containers, press the Use key on it and you can enter it.
And then, in regards to that "Peculiar Chest" you find from the "Light-That-Teleports-You" (Yes, I'm typing names Lovecraft-like), when you get teleported back, so does the chest. With that chest, find this place that is also deep underwater, shaped like a cube.
The chest will give another item from that cube, find the "Scary-Spike-That-Makes-Weird-Noise-And-Emits-Red-Light" and you'll figure out the rest.
Oh and, if you have patience, please stay more than a hour or at least half in the Submarine itself, keep it moving. I noticed it had some random events going on in it.

I have a story for this map, this map takes place after the events of Iron Lung. The team have finally found a blood ocean shallow enough where people can dove down in and die, the sub on the map is an upgraded version of the SM13 with auto steering and a live camera to navigate. Once the team found the perfect blood ocean they started to build a base under the water, this was the place with the pillars and the mountain of bones, after the failure they moved east and build the 1st successful base where they did research and lived. But that was only the beginning.

and also thanks for making this video, i have been actively waiting for this, i have been actively engaging with this maps discoveris and i just really like this map, so thanks, thanks a lot : )
i would also like to share some thought:
i love this channel you talk about comfy and creepy having a strong resemblence with each other and i think the way you just act in these vids really goes hand and hand.

We need a map that hates you. Or a game. It can be in subtle ways, blatant ways, minor and large ways but there is something in the game that despises you and will make you frustrated and uncomfortable and angry. Just the most mean tricks, cheap scares when you don’t expect and subtle scares in between, every expectation subverted to keep you completely on edge and paranoid for the whole experience. Whatever the entity is, it is the worst thing. Everything is caused by it, and in any direct confrontation it will cripple you. Chase scenes where it spots you, your screen goes red and wobbly as it scream hisses and pinballs towards you. Walls collapse and mold to push you in worse directions but eventually you reach it’s barrier and slam the door behind you. It will mock you when it catches you and when you think you’ve achieved something, hiding keys that open doors to pitfalls and shotgun traps. Overall just the dirtiest series of tricks and mockery as the entity becomes increasingly frustrated at your existence, culminating in a confrontation where it is tearing itself apart to get near you and ending with you feeling almost sorry for it, despite everything
