Video essay created for a university course, exploring narrative perspective and emotional symbolism in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's wonderful, whimsical film Amelie, in a hopefully accessible and fun manner.
    It got a first!
    Enjoy!

Nice overview. Did you know that when a French person writes a letter with a green inkpen it is an expression of hope. Almost every scene in this movie has the color green in it. You even had a green object in the background of one of the scenes you were in, as if your subconscious was giving you hope as well!

The best, most concise analysis and summary of this film I've found to date. The film is just bursting with detail and it's why I love it and keep looking for more commentary, analyses and insights. I think it hits a very personal and relatable note for most of us too.

The Director is an absolute genius and it is so sad he finds getting financing so difficult. The amount of nuance, detail & pathos in all his films are amazing. Also the emotional breadth as he gets the best out of the actors.
This study is so good, will have to watch it again with renewed understanding.

Tbh this movie reminds me of my view on the world, listening to your commentary feels like your revealing myself, pulling out my hidden solitude and showing me how i can break out of this glass.. thanks. Yet, it is hard to pull away this protection of glass between me and others, its scary and dangerous..

Amelie is one of those movies that I hate as much as I love. I love the photography, the nostalgia but I hate that story.
This woman is an intruder who judges people and gives them good and bad points, doing good stuff to people she likes and punishing people she dislikes without wondering why those people are miserable in the first place.
The worst thing is that when she does her schemes it's always filmed in a nice way that seems to completely validate it.
It's a mean story and nothing in the movie seems to criticize it, which makes this fairytale quite cruel to people who has had a hard life and are just in the picture to suffer in the hand of insane white knights, without giving them any dimension or consideration to their pain. It's dehumanising.
