- The Stihl 066 chainsaw is a great choice for cutting big wood and chainsaw milling.

Used them for 7 yrs cutting timber, and they were the greatest! Reliable and cuts fast!
powerful saw. my brother and i bought a used 064 in 1988 and used it in our firewood buisness. other than a new sprocket and bar and chain the saw still runs perfect. we paid 400$ for it back then.
064 is the birth of the 66... Bigger bottom end. Yours had a rev limiter light probably...
Great saw glad you got the sprocket sorted out I know you were pretty worried.
Wow nice stihl 066 660❤❤❤
O66 magnum is the best!!!! Great bottom end, lots of stump power.
Looking forward to seeing this saw doing some milling.
It's a beast!
Great saw.
Mill, 076
Love the 66 series. Had a 066, sold it to get the 661. Great saws!
There are 2 saws on my dream saw list. The 241 and the 661. I'd have a hard time justifying a 661 unless I mill a boatload more wood so you'll probably see me with a 241 first.
CTSCAPER
Heard that!
My next saw will be a top handle. 200t it 201t. 😊👍
Take care!
I have a 661, and I'm looking for an 066 to get, as well as an 075, 084, 088, and 090. I like older saws, but couldn't find an 066 before I got the 661. Now I'm seeing some, and I don't have the extra money to spend on one!
i would check the clutch springs. even with an adjusted carb the chain will still spin at idle if the springs or even just the clutch is too worn.
Thanks for the tip! That makes a lot of sense. This saw was used a lot by what I assume was an arborist so worn springs make sense.
I'm a Stihl tech. when mist saws are run with a dull chain, the heat transfers thru the bar to the clutch. there are three springs that stretch when overheated prohibiting the clutch from disengaging . they are cheap at the dealer . three springs ...about five bucks.
Thanks for the tip. I might just give that one a try!
On the 066 whats the smaller bar and chain i can go 36 is too big for my work
I bought the 661, but for milling I'm looking for an 075, 084, 088, 090, or 880.
For the chain spinning at idle, that could be as simple at the idle screw. Check it and the low speed screw. If they're adjusted right it should run great. I'm sure you probably know that, but I figured I'd put in my 2 cents.
Had All of them, o90, 66, 046 are the best. 084, and 88 no thanks.
An utter beast of a saw! High on my hitlist but wow are they expensive, even second hand!
I find it's more fun to research purchasing an item then to actually buy it. That backfires on me more often than I care to admit and I buy one even though I don't have the money and if I keep it up I won't have a wife either.
Anything for the quiet life eh 😉
try opening up the low jet might help it idle and hunker down in the cut wide open too
The o66 o45 are probably the best saws made.
044
I never had any complaints about my MS660...other than the weight! lol
It adds up. I've relegated the 660 to milling and the 046 for big crosscuts.
I have a 066 with a 36in bar whats something smaller i could put on
HI, this link for amazon still not working. Can you share another link? thank you
Can this brand still be on the market ?
If the engine sputters at high and low rpm chances are its a play in the connecting rod.
066 and 660 had a nice sound.... 661 sounds different.
Is it available?
Hello between this 066 and 651 which one is better
066
might be a air leak id get it running right before using it on the mill might burn it out
Yes sir. If the saw does not idle when hot beware.
maybe you have a vacuum leak for its fast idling speed?
Non ethanol fuel only.
That saw is a ms660! Not an 066
No it ain't some 066 were round top
