    Hey I'm an incoming freshman for spring 2018, I'm really excited to live at the beach! Your dorm is so cute! I wanted to ask what do you think is the best way to make it look spacious cuz I have seen a few dorms with the desk near the window and bed in the middle of the desk and the closet, does your set up help with making it look spacious as its already such a compact space?

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 6 lety

      Hi! I actually think the best way to make it look more spacious is to have the desk turned sideways so it's backed up against the wall instead of the bed. That's how it came in my dorm, but I moved it so I would have more room to get into my closet. That's so exciting that you're starting at CSULB next semester! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me :)

    Hey! I’m planning on starting at CSULB this fall and just wanted to say that your videos are helping me so much :) Do you know how much it is to do laundry at the dorms and do you have any advice for freshman year?

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 5 lety +1

      Yay! I'm so glad. I want to say it's $1 or $1.50 to wash and 50 cents to dry. We used to have separate laundry cards but I think it's all on your ID now. For freshman year, I recommend communicating with your roommate beforehand, leaving your door open during move in and week of welcome as much as possible so you can meet people in your hall, being open to new experiences and getting out of your comfort zone (which is easier said than done, I know), and keeping in touch with friends and family from home :) I also have a video where I talk about advice for freshman if you want to check it out: czcams.com/video/jHloJAxRW-8/video.html&t I wish you the best of luck!

    Hi! I just got my acceptance email and CSULB is my top choice, so it worked out! I plan on dorming and was hoping for a single, also I'm a transfer. What is the possibility of that happening? I don't mind living in a suite with other people (I'm an extrovert and social), but privacy is just something I like to know I can return to consistently with a room of my own. No rush responding since I just saw you're heading to Paris! I plan to study abroad in Kyoto my second year.

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 5 lety

      Hi! Congrats! :) Unfortunately, I don't know too much about the probability of getting single rooms because I never personally tried to do it, and I don't know anyone who did. The only advice I have would be to fill out the housing application form as soon as you get the email so you have the best chance of getting it--the earlier, the better. I definitely understand wanting your own space. Just know that even if a single doesn't work out, your roommate won't be there all the time and you'll still have your own space and time alone. And that's awesome that you want to study abroad!

    do u think honors is worth it? i’m going into my third year next sem and got an email invite to apply for honors bc of my gpa but i’m not entirely sure yet

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Allyssa! I think it depends. I ended up dropping the program because it ended up not working out with my schedule--because I already came in with AP credits and was doing a double minor, I had a lot of specific classes I needed to take that fulfilled GE requirements and I would have had to take honors classes on top of that (I don't know if that makes sense--basically you have to take a certain amount of honors units and they fulfill GE requirements, but I was already having to take different classes for those same requirements). I'm so glad I started out in it because it provided such a great community--it's how I met all of my friends in the dorms. And it can definitely be worth it if you get the classes to line up with your schedule. I would say it's probably more valuable if you plan on going to grad school than if you're just planning on getting a job right after college because of the senior thesis, and it depends on your field. Another perk is that you get priority registration (at least that's how it worked when I was in it) and that REALLY helps with getting the classes you need. I hope this helps somewhat 🙂Please let me know if you have other questions!

    Are you in Los Alamitos or Los Cerritos? I’m starting in fall 2018 and when I went for a tour they didn’t have traditional rooms for show and Cerritos was the Honors dorm:(

    Can someone please explain the communal bathrooms in the Hillside Traditional Halls. Is that similar to like a locker room, with multiple showers and bathrooms??

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 6 lety +2

      There are three bathroom stalls with a counter and two sinks next to them and then a row of about five or six sinks on the other side and four showers. I show a little of it in my morning routine video if you want to check that out :) czcams.com/video/bGcT2Toi7Lk/video.html

      Unfortunately I don't, sorry! I know they were pretty high--I was able to fit a lot of stuff under it and had to use a step stool to get up.

    What is the difference b/w Los Cerritos and Los Alamitos? How did you choose?

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 6 lety

      Los Cerritos is the honors building, so if you're in the honors program, that's where you'll live. Otherwise, I don't think there are any differences. Both of them are traditional style halls with communal bathrooms.

    • @_heyitsmay

      If they still do roommates the same way, you will be able to message people in your building and get recommendations based on your answers to the questionnaire.

    So if you make a lot of food in your room, you must have reusable dishes. is there a place to wash your dishes near by??

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, I did have reusable dishes (mason jars, a bowl, a plate, and silverware, all of which I bought at a thrift store). I washed them in the laundry room sink (I lived on the first floor, so the laundry room was just down the hall). Some people washed dishes in the bathroom too, but those sinks hardly have any water pressure, so that wasn't ideal.

    can we choose our own roommate?

    • @_heyitsmay
      @_heyitsmay  Před 6 lety

      Daisy Cruz The way the roommate selection process works is you will fill out a form online with basic information like what time you wake up and go to bed, whether or not you want other people to hang out in the room, etc. and then the system will match you with people based on that. Then you can view their profiles and message them and then decide who you want to room with. If you already have someone you want to room with, you can request them. And if you just want to be put with someone randomly, you can do that too. Hope this helps :)
