With all due respect, a lot of what Lauryn talks about if you listen to her discussions in her MTV Unplugged appearance are very much symptoms of Bipolar Depression, specifically the subset of Bipolar in which someone experiences long stretches of abrupt depression followed by normal levels of functioning. A woman can have Bipolar Disorder and be a strong, talented, smart, creative, wonderful person. We need to stop acting as if having a mental illness would diminish her creative endeavors and artistic accomplishments. When men have a mental illness but produce creative work, such as Kurt Cobain, we celebrate them even knowing they were unwell. Why can't we acknowledge Lauryn's mental illness and celebrate her? Because Kurt was a white man, and Lauryn's a black woman, she doesn't get to be both flawed and gifted? I would ask you to please reexamine your words and open your heart up to the idea she can be both struggling with something and worthy of praise.

Edit: and nowadays they wanna say colorist exist in the industry that's why we don't see or have any dark tone female artist out. Not deny it but they most forgot about Lauryn hill. It's no telling what and how far she would've came if she don't decided not to continue. But I think they talking about how things is nowadays in the industry. Because back then is was so many dark skin and brow skin successful artist.

Seyi Ajayi right, you can't deny REAL RAW TALENT PERIOD!!! That's what I'm trying get people to see now. But they wanna blame everything on the industry colorism. It exists and true colorism in the music business. But you can pull through if the talent is real raw and the music match and people SUPPORT IT. Artist nowadays simply ain't as talent like the people back than. And lack originality BAD.

Queen. You did an amazing job with this. As woman who was/is a personal manager in the game especially for black female artists (not a plug) I watch her process and progress carefully. Praying for, understanding her applauding her and crying for. You did such and honoring beautiful and thorough job with this production. I am in tears and so proud of you and your work. Peace and blessings.

Say what you want about Ms. Lauryn Hill, but she’s the truth and I consider her the epitome of an Artist just like Pras said. She’s Morally, Spiritually, Vocally, and Lyrically dope. Awesome job on this, and putting respect on this Woman’s name and legacy thus far.

IKR? Pras is cool. She should've been with him if she had to get involved with someone in her group. Wyclef came off as an ass in my opinion when he said she needed help like insinuating she has mental issues. Pras defended her. Kudos to him for that.

She clearly said that the Miseducation album came as a result of life experiences. So, to create something else just as good, in her mind, she would have had to go through several more experiences. That makes sense.

"The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" helped me through the aftermath of hurricane George back in '98, it had just been released and I literally managed to get a copy of the cd and put it on tape just hours before the hurricane was about to hit 🇵🇷, so I could play it on my Walkman since I was going to be without power for a long time, it helped keep me sane

One of the GREATEST to ever do it. Very few had the ability to SING (SANG) and RAP at equal levels, and in the equal levels, not average, but astronomically amazing. She couldn't just rap as in rhyming lyrics, she was a true lyricist. She painted murals with her lyrical gift, telling stories and spreading empowering messages to live by. Furthermore, one of the few to be a true triple threat to SANG, RAP, and ACT on the same astronomically amazing level.
Then, she had one of the best albums of ALL time, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" (establishing her as one of the best vocalist and lyricist of all time), critically acclaimed as the treasured Golden Buddha, selling so well that she literally didn't and doesn't have to release another album, with that album alone sealing her legacy for eternity.

Yes! What amazes me was that she was only 23--she even acknowledged that she was a "baby" which was true but the WISDOM in someone so young astonishes me and inspired me at 20 years old back when "Miseducation" came out. I bumped that cassette DAILY. I can't believe people were judging her for having babies. So what! As long as she is a good mother and takes care of her kids it's no one's business how many she has--married or not. She is an incredible artist. They judged Erykah Badu for the same thing also.
