The backing vocalists is singer producer Babyface, he wrote this and one or two other songs with Madonna on the album Bedtime Stories (1994). There was no tour for this album. Because she was going to start filming the film Evita which came out in 1996. ‘Don’t Cry ForMe Argentina is the cover song from the movie also music video is from the film, check it out, her vocals were the best.

She was also ADAMANT that she should only sing and hated his idea to harmonize and echo parts of the chorus.
They argued for quite a while about it,but thankfully Babyface won out.

FAR from underrated...this was Madonna's longest running #1 Billboard Hot 100 hit (7 weeks!). The background singer was Babyface, who co-produced the 1994 song with her. The video was shot in Ronda, Spain. Her lover is played by Emilio Muñoz, at that time Spain's premiere bullfighter. A little controversy once again followed Madonna here, from animal rights activists who complained about the cruelty of bullfighting. Ironically, since the bull was featured in this video & could therefore no longer be used for bullfighting, she saved its life, and paid for it to be sent to a farm to live out its life. It's notable that you mentioned hearing an Asian-inspired melody during it.....now you have to watch the live performance of this song at the American Billboard Awards, where that Asian-inspiration is played to full effect!
More importantly, you must watch 1996's "You'll See", another stunning ballad which is Madonna's first sequel video, following and completing the storyline of the 'Take A Bow' video. They have to be watched back-to-back! Both stunning, visually & vocally.
Great reaction (even with all the pauses...ahem)! 😏

I wasn't out, and he was straight, but every once in awhile we would make this connection with our eyes that would just pierce through me. I'd always freak out and break eye contact and start talking about something random. If only I could go back and not be so afraid! Oh well! You've seen "You'll See" a few weeks ago - video it's the continuation of this one first but now you get what happens before. She did filmed this video in Spain. MTV did a behind the scenes special there.
Fun fact: This was Madonna longest #01 in US (7 weeks at #01 on Hot 100) and was also Madonna first single to miss UK TOP 10 (peaked #16 in UK) after 36 consecutive Top 10 singles (still by far the most among all artists in UK). This song was released in December, biggest and busiest season of the year. Madonna did this video to prove Alan Parker ("Evita" director) that she was the right fit for the part. And she did grab the part and even won a Golden Globe as Best Actress for her performance on "Evita" movie.

The symbolism here is great. The bull = Madonna. Lured in, taunted and teased by the bullfighter, but ultimately he kills the bull i.e. breaks her heart. When she's in the bed the sheets are reminiscent of the bullfighter's cape. Check out "You'll See" if you haven't already. It's "Part 2" of this video and like you said she's at her best when she's emotional. She doesn't so much get revenge as simply accepts her fate and moves on. Only then does he realize what he had but it's too late. Both videos are beautiful.

I’ve watched several reaction videos to this song and I don’t think I’ve seen anybody quite pick up on the metaphor of the lyrics. It’s comparing a relationship with a metaphor of an actor in a play. She’s in love, but she’s being led on by somebody who’s taking her for granted, like an actor faking it. Almost as if she’s saying, “Bravo you fooled me. You deserve an award.”
To me, the heroes of the song are the string section and Babyface’s backing vocals, which just completely pull this whole piece together and is one of the most beautiful songs/arrangements ever.

Please react to this song being performed live on the American Music Awards or is it the Billboard Awards....with Madonna and Babyface standing on podiums. Iconic.

I think it’s about time for you to react to the “Bedtime Story” video. The song, written by Bjork for Madonna, was a totally different electronic sound for her, opening the road to the Ray of Light era. The video was the most expensive video of its time, full of great images and symbols, a true masterpiece and permanent element of a museum’s exhibition, as a unique example of modern video art.

Actually, the story behind this song and video is based on the romance of the Mexican actress Miroslava with Luis Miguel Domiguín during her visit to Spain, he even gave her a commitment ring but when she came back to Mexico, she found out that Doniguín had married Lucía Bosé, some people say that this event was one of the reasons why she to kill herself, Miroslava left a letter to her brother where she wrote, "Escribe y envía el regalo, una campanita de plata, a Luis Miguel Dominguin y que sea feliz". (Write and send a gift to Dominguín, a silver bell and wish him to be happy)

I always thought this was about Sean Penn. I don't believe it to be about Warren Beatty because she was still inlove with Sean while she was with him (Madonna basically said so and her brother Christopher wrote about it), he didn't break her heart. The song says: "I've always been inlove with you" and while recording the Spanish version of "You'll See", which came afterwards, she still mentioned Seann as the big love of her life.

It’s indeed poetic. The bull is Madonna giving her all and throwing herself for the man the star. And in return he broke her heart as the images goes those glasses falls broken he stab that sword kill the bull and madonna falls down at the stairway soooo dramatic so beautiful and haunting. Excuse my English.

Bullfighting is a metaphor for their relationship . She is the Bull and he is killing or destroying her by his violence and abuse......and at the end she runs away and the bull is killed by him.....so the bull is finally "free " and so is she. This song was #1 for 6 or 7 weeks. It was her longest running #1 and this was after the backlash of Erotica and Sex book she endured. Bedtime Stories the album this song is from is one of her most underrated and beautiful collections in her incredible discography......

I also always heard the Asian influence and was really surprised when the video came out and had a Spanish theme. Never could wrap my brain around that. Still a beautiful video.
Since you already did "You'll See", the video sequel to this you should also do the official video for "Veras", the Spanish version of "You'll See".

The look of the video was deliberately done to show her in 40’s fashion because she was trying to score the part of Eva Peron in the movie adaptation of the musical Evita.

She used this video and photos and sent them to the people who were wanting to make the movie Evita. She was trying to pitch herself in the starring role, I don’t know if this video persuaded them, but eventually she was cast as Eva Peron.

I think it was "You'll See" that you were referring to as the song that's similar, and that's quite deliberate. "You'll See" is basically "Take a Bow Part 2", as the other actor is the same and it also has this sort of wistful sepia-tinge to it (both metaphorically and literally). I think you should re-watch "You'll See" today with that in mind, as a follow up to this song.
As far as lyrics go, there's also a big "stage" and "acting" theme to this song, right from the title to other lyrics like "You deserve an award for the role that you play" and the quote directly from William Shakespeare's "As You Like It" of "All the world is a stage". I've always taken that to mean that the love interest is basically an "actor" who pretends to love Madonna but doesn't in reality follow through with true love, and that's why it's time to move on.
As you said, there's a lot of symbolism in this video. Another one is that you see an implied sex scene between him and Madonna, and he climaxes but then the scene cuts to him stabbing the bull to death with his sword in quite a powerful juxtaposition of imagery. After that you see Madonna in clear distress, fleeing from him in a dishevelled state. It's almost like he needs to dominate in everything he does, be it fighting the bull or being in a relationship, and he treats Madonna in the same way as he treated the bull - as a conquest to be won.
Going back now to "You'll See", you will note that this lyrical theme of a lover who wasn't good enough for her and who misused his position continues. Check it out again as soon as possible, while t his is fresh in your mind!
