This is my reaction to Top 50 German Rock Songs EVER
In this video I react to rock music from Germany and a list of the top 50 songs ever based on Spotify streams. This list includes artists like Rammstein, Scorpions and Electric Callboy.

Scorpions and Rammstein are all time legends. "Die Ärzte" and "Die toten Hosen" are probably the most popular and well known bands in germany. I personally love the energy of "powerwolf" (would recommend army of the night), heaven shall burn and electric callboy.
I love Powerwolf! I stumbled across them entirely by chance (Sanctus Dominus was the first song I heard) and quickly fell in love with many of their songs, Army of the Night is awesome!

I think it's a good collection. But the snippets are a little bit too short in my opinion. You just start to feel the vibe of the song and then they cut to another one. If you want to get into Electric Callboy: Start with Hypa Hypa or We got the moves. Those two songs represent the essence of the band the best.
Yeah, I agree. When I started the video, I wondered if CZcams had made some mistake here, 8 minutes 17 for 50 songs PLUS reaction, that cannot be, I thought. Now I know it CAN be. Alright, I knew most of the songs, but the snippets are definitely too short for someone new to it to get an impression of German rock music.
Creators don’t get copyright claims if the snippets are shorter than 10 seconds. I think that’s the reason why they’re so short
Please give Electric Callboy a try, those snippets here can't do the essence of their style justice!! For many reasons. I would recomment "we got the moves" , "hypa hypa" , "parasite" - they're currently working on a new album😍😍
@@lulaa123 Is this CZcams or general copyright law? I heard or read somewhere, somewhen that Germany only allows 4 seconds as a snippet, but that may be wrong. I'm not even sure whether copyright law contains a specific regulation for that, or it's just common practice.
I second that - Electric Callboy (previously Eskimo Callboy) is a fun band.
About 3-4 years ago they got a new lead singer and the band just took of.
Hypa Hypa spawned quite a lot of remixes, most done in collaboration with the band and hosted on their youtube channel.
However, the version "Saltatio Mortis vs. Eskimo Callboy - Hypa Hypa" is featured only on Slatation Mortis channel; you might wanna check that one out too, if you are into bagpipes and medieval style music. ^^
That being said, their former lead singer was not bad at all.
"Prism" is my favorite song with him and - while very different from what Electric Callboy is doing now - still a very powerful song.

Please react to "Die Ärzte" and "Die Toten Hosen", two of the most popular punk rock bands in germany. For me as a Düsseldorfer, the Toten Hosen are part of the local cultural heritage.😅 (They are originally from Düsseldorf and a big part of the local culture, especially for our local football club, Fortuna Düsseldorf 🔴⚪️). If you're interested in different parts and cultures here in Germany, I could recommend Videos from Trip extreme about Düsseldorf and Cologne (Düsseldorf and Cologne, originally Köln or Kölle, are the two biggest cities in North Rhine Westfalia, and there is an age-old, ironic enmity between the cities😅). But at first, I'm happy if you would react to "The Toten Hosen", songs for example "Hier kommt Alex", "An Tagen wie diesen" or "Altes Fieber". And to "Die Ärzte" for example to the songs "Schrei nach Liebe" (for this song it would be interesting, if you would translate the lyrics to understand the songtext, it is about facism and is often used at concerts against right wing parties/ racist people and right wing extremist movements).
The Cologne counterpart to the "death trousers" (Toten Hosen) are maybe BAP (by far not so famous as the Toten Hosen but a local "cultural heritage" in Cologne).

Noch ein Düsseldorfer hier ;) It's hard to judge because both bands have been active for over 40 years. As a kid I listened to both bands but mostly Die Ärzte since my teenage years. Die Toten Hosen still have some bangers but most of the newer stuff is more pop than punk. Both great bands nonetheless and as far as I can tell very nice human beings.

"Schrei nach Liebe" by "Die Ärzte" is almost a german folk song - since i guess about 60-70% of german Citizens can sing along this tune

"Die Ärzte" and "Die Toten Hosen" are German legends. Even if you're not that into that genre most Germans could sing along to their hits (which are many).
Guano Apes and Scorpions are definitely a good choice for diving deeper into german music. 🙂

6:31 thats a legendary song, which is already talked about in school, because the meaning is deep and important. probably one of the best lyrics ever written for a german song.

Eskimo Callboy (now known as Electric Callboy) made a metal song "Hypa Hypa", and then in their next album they had that song but covered by many different german musicians in a whole variety of styles. From Folk Rock over country to acoustic guitar... was a really interesting art project, would be coold if you reacted to all the Hypa Hypa covers.
I feel Like "Die Ärzte" are heavily underrepresented here^^ they are absolute Legends, but i guess its more of punkrock than it is rockn roll.
I can further recommend 'Beatstakes', 'Guano Apes', 'Die Toten Hosen' and above all 'Wir sind Helden'

Die Ärzte are super underrepresented indeed. And if I remember correctly the overall music style they claim is funpunk.
it can be a bit explained that this list is about Spotify Views and Die Ärzte were against putting their Songs on streaming platforms where the platforms get most of the money and especially smaller artist (which they aren't but it was about the principle) hardly gain money from it. So you could only lsiten to it on CZcams or by purchasing the songs.
They shifted their view to let anyone enoy music how they want it as at hte end of 2018 they put their songs also on streaming platforms.
Spotify exists since 2006 and while 2018 is also already 6 years ago, other bands also had not a break like Die Ärzte. Rammstein was constantly touring and making new music while Die Ärzte were nearly near a breakup and toured not for a long time till they reappeared 2018/19 and made 2 new albums durring Corona.

Scorpions are indeed legends, next year will be their 60th (!) anniversary with Klaus Meine as their front man since 1969, and they are still playing live shows! SImilar to Rammstein they've toured all around the globe and are one of Germany's biggest musical export, and have been decades before Rammstein were founded. One of my favs is actually a rather 'new' song (from this century), *Maybe I, Maybe You* (2004), which showcased that they were still able to do power ballads after being almost 40 years in business...
Wind of Change became kind of a hymn for the unification, but it was played so excessively, everywhere, I simply couldn't stand it any longer before the 90's were halfway through...
My favorite is ‘schandmaul’. All songs are beautiful. But there is one that gets me crying every time “euch zum geleit”

My favorite Schandmaul song is „Dein Anblick“; it‘s been one of my favorite songs ever, since my childhood.
Scorpions are the greatest German rock band of all time. Scooter is german and Hypa Hypa from Electric Callboy a reference to Hyper Hyper from Scooter. Electric Callboy are taking off nationally and internationally after the change of one of their two singers. I think her most popular songs internationally are Hypa Hypa, We Got The Moves and the cover of Everytime We Touch. There are also a number of versions of Hypa Hypa that were created in collaboration with other bands and musicians, including a medieval rock, a country rock and a pop version. Another suggestion is Lord Of The Lost feat. Blümchen with the cover of The Look by Roxette. My favorites from the video are Helloween, Accept and Die Toten Hosen.

@@sophiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiie the name Hypa Hypa is definitely a reference to Scooter's Hyper Hyper, and the "Dööp Dööp"-part of Hypa Hypa is also a reference to Scooter but to the 2000s aera, more specifically to the Song "Maria, I like it loud!".

Scorpions are the best rock band of all time?? I would say: that's absolutely a matter of taste! Almost all my friends love rock music but hate the Scorpions ;)

I also like a number of bands better than Scorpions, but I can't deny their importance. 🙂
Scorpions - winds of change was the song which became popular during the time of the german reunification (October 3rd 1990 - a national holiday called "Tag der Deutschen Einheit")

The song was written in '89 around the time when the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain fell. Which is exactly what the song is about.
The album Crazy World was released in November 1990 a month after the reunification of Germany.
The song itself as a single was released in January of '91.

One artist you liked here from the short snippet was "Die Toten Hosen". you should really check them out. As a bit of context, they were originally a punkrock band, heavily inspired from British Punk rock of the 80's and 90's. Their frontman Campino was so Punk, that he refused to stay on the stage and tried to sing from inside the crowd. later they shifted mor to rock and now Pop. Their fans were always in clinch with the Fans of another famous german Punk Band, called "Die Ärzte".
Das „Pop“ tat richtig weh…aber TwD und Teufel kann man schwer als was anderes bezeichnen. Wobei auch bei neuen Lieder auch noch Rock gut vertreten ist
Pretty good compilation. The snippets are just a little bit too short, but that could be a way to avoid copyright claims. There are a lot of bands in there that I really like. I was a bit surprised about Lord of the Lost because they were not so popular before their attempt to ESC last year. Btw if you like the ESC, you should definitely go down the rabbit hole of Germany in Eurovision, especially with regards to Electric Callboy...

I love Powerwolf, their songs are full of energy. Their music videos are also high quality, definitely worth a reaction. I would suggest to look at "Napalm Records" on YT and selecting a song with a title you like (make sure it's tagged music video and not lyric video).

5:10 Eskimo or Electric Callboy is a Trance-Core band which mixes a lot of styles (like EDM, Hardstyle and other genres) with Metal-Core. Very funny videos and crazy but good songs.
Blind Guardian really kinda of underrepresented in that clip video.

I don't get why people cut such short sequences.
You need 15-30 sec to get into a song.
Scorpions are one of the biggest bands in the world, they have sold more than 110 million copies of records, bon jovi, iron maiden, def leppard among many other bands have opened their show, they still fill stadiums and arenas around the world in almost 60 years career. And Rammstein is at its peak, doing big tours with great shows and representing Germany very well.
My favorite German band is Saltatio Mortis.^^ They have bagpipes and are mostly known for medieval style rock songs. I also love Scorpions.
If you now also start reactions to Electric Callboy (former Eskimo Callboy) - I think all my dreams with that channel will come true haha.
I was surprised that neither Subway to Sally nor Schandmaul was able to fetch at least one place in the top50.

Both most likely not fall under rock but rather folk or folk metal. Love them too but I see why they are missing out here.

Scorpions Wind of Change was the anthem for the Fall of the wall..
A powerful sogn I can recommend is "Der Weg" from Herbert Grönemeyer. There exists a live version from Gelsenkirchen with english subtitles. He wrote the song in the year both his wife and his brother died from cancer. The lyrics are pure poetic and touch your heart and sould, the voice is rough and beautiful.

That Album came out around the time my grandpa died. That was the first time I lost someone I really cared about and moreover my father had a hard time coping as well. He used to listen to that song a lot during this time. "Der Weg" has been etched into my soul. It is impossible for me not to cry while listening to it.

There is a German music group called Faun. They play pagan folk. Would be interesting to see their reaction to this group.
Tokio Hotel is a guilty pleasure for my early teen years... all the girls in school were fawning over the Kaulitz brothers. And to think that the lead singer, Bill Kaulitz, went on to marry Heidi Klum (as he had stated as his dream in an interview in 2008) is still unbelievable to me. :D
If you wanna delve a bit into the metal-ish folk rock corner, I can definitely highly recommend Versengold, Santiano and Saltatio Mortis. Blind Guardian is amazing if you like something melodic, powerful but still somewhat mystical calming music.
Enjoying your videos a lot mate. Die Ärzte and Wir sind Helden are great bands to follow. Let's go through the other genres ;)
I had the pleasure of seeing Powerwolf live a couple of years ago they're a Powermetal band with high quality theatrics, outfits and music videos and they're just as good live imo. Scorpions are a Hard Rock band a classic world wide as you said yourself you'll recognize some songs, Electric Callboy are known for mixing up their Metalcore with hardstyle techno and other electronic components and are always good for a laugh but are talented nonetheless and another band that sadly wasn't featured here is Feuerschwanz which are German-Medieval-Rock and also like to use stuff like Bagpipes in their songs which should be very interesting for you as a Scot lol. Many great bands here you can react to if you wanna get into the German Rock and Metal scene. I could say a thing or two about probably all the bands shown but this comment is too long already.
You absolutely must hear the complete "Hypa Hypa" by Eskimo Callboy. These few seconds give a different picture of a real good heavy song, mixing genres.
Electric callboy (formerly known as eskimo callboy) is definitely worth checking out! Last year there was a huge hype going on about them.
You have to check out SEEED, they are a Hip-Hop band from berlin. They have an absolute unique sound! "Augenbling" or "Geld" would be great songs to check out!

Their music is mainly a mix of metalcore and techno and they are so damn goofy and funny!
Fun fact: In 2021, they wanted to represent Germany at the ESC with the song "We got the moves", but the people in charge of German television were of the opinion that Electric Callboy's music was not "suitable for radio", so they were not allowed to participate in the preliminary round. The whole thing went pretty viral and today they are very well known all over the world and play one sold-out world tour after another.
It was in 2022 with the song „Pump it“.
I'd recommend listening and reacting to some Neue Deutsche Welle if you want some more 80's - 90's bangers ( basically German new wave / post-punk). There are many , but I recommend the bands Fehlfarben, Abwärts, DAF and Grauzone (even tho they're technically swiss wave)
You might want to check out "Die Toten Hosen" - literally translated to: "the dead pants". It's one of the more well known Punk/Rock bands in Germany who still are doing new albums and live tours. During the covid times, they released an unplugged album (Ohne Strom), also covering some songs from other bands and there was also a tour planned. Unfortunately it had to be cancelled and so only the concert footage of the only concert for this album at the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf (their home town) exists. As you seem to be a lot into Rammstein, you might check out the version of "Ohne Dich" video here on YT.
Fun fact: in her latest album Anastacia has performed an offical english cover of "An Tagen wie diesen" - "These are the best days". Anastacias cover perfectly hits the spirit of the Hosen song without a literal translation of the text.
If you are more into "the black scene" (gothic etc.) you might want to have a look at "Unheilig"/"Der Graf". He is somewhat controversal, though, and he lost a big part of his fan base with his last album which was "too commercial" and "too mainstream" for a lot who followed him. He finished his career after that comercially very successfull album.
Wir Sind Helden was one of the first music I ever really listened to. I neither listen to rock nor German music anymore, so I’m way out of the loop. But other music I recommend checking out: Udo Lindenberg (a very interesting man, who was particularly important when Germany was divided into east and west), and a modern artist called Phillip Poisel.

Scorpions may be famous for their amazing rock ballads, but they had quite a few pretty wild ones like "Dynamite" or "Another piece of meat".
Die Aerzte are known as punk, but have a very wide range of different styles. Die Toten Hosen have their own typical style (you could say it's poppy melodic punkrock with metal elements), but they can surprise a listener, who dives a bit deeper into their catalogue.
"Wind of Change" was one of two major hyms accompanying the "Wendezeit", the time when the Berlin wall fell.
And no, the other one isn't some song by David Hasselhoff, but "Freiheit" by Marius Müller Westernhagen, which I think should be included in this list as well.
I would recommend the genres "Neue Deutsche Welle" (80s german new wave, sharing some similarities with the british genre) and of course electronic music starting with Kraftwerk, following the 90s and the success of techno/rave, up to modern day "Minimal" and the influence of the Berlin club scene.

heads up, if you ever want to listen to or react to electric callboy (and you should, their songs are GOLD because they tend to be wild and unexpected, especially with their music videos, i love them so much): they changed their name around last year from eskimo callboy to electric callboy, because they named that band in 2010 when none of them even knew what the word eskimo even meant; when they got more popular more recently, people, especially international listeners from the americas, have educated them quite a lot about the horrible origins of the word. i really admire how they handled this: they adressed it in a video, said they were going to need a bit of time to fix this and then they just, one day, changed literally every album art, all the merch, EVERYTHING to say electric callboy instead. made me have huge respect for them
personally not a Rammstein Fan. Never been. But yeah, have a look for Eskimo Callboy, and Die Toten Hosen.
Also, not sure if I recommended that already: Feuerschwanz, a medieval/folk metal band that started out as a parodistic fun band but has in the last few years become more serious. Recommendations there: "Bastard von Asgard" or "Sgfrd Dragonslayer"
One of the greatest German Rock songs of all time, which wasn't featured here, is actually a song from a band from East Germany: The band is called City, and the song is Am Fenster.
And if you're into heavier stuff: Germany has been one of the most influential countries for Heavy Metal since the 80s. Accept, Running Wild, Grave Digger, Scorpions, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Avantasia, Destruction, Kreator, Sodom, Rage, Powerwolf, Electric Callboy (renamed to eliminate the offensive term), Heaven Shall Burn, the list goes on.
I feel East German music isn't streamed that much cause it is forgotten artists. There was very good music from the East but maybe it also doesn't count as Rock that much. I will still recommend Bands like City, Karat, Neumis Rock Circus, Puhdys, Speed, Gundermann, Silly, Die goldenen Zitronen, Feeling B.

unfortunately, the charts were based on spotify playlists. so worldwide playlists count. this creates the feeling that there was no successful good music in the gdr because brd music was successful worldwide and gdr music didn't cross the borders
my mother was already dancing to City in the mud at the age of 14. 25 years later, i was partying to it on the beach at the baltic sea. it's still played at every private party in eastern germany today.

One iconic song that wasn't on the list is Sacred Worlds by Blind Guardian (their vid is here: czcams.com/video/JyfE55c_ZjI/video.html). They cast themselves into a video game, where the concert was embedded as virtual event.

Very short snippets unfortunately, but I liked it. Quite surprised to see Edguy and Avantasia in there, they're my absolute favourite bands, but not very well known. I also love Powerwolf, they play Power Metal and always choose this pseudo-religious aesthetic, dressing up like werewolf priests.
And I had no idea Accept was actually German, 'Balls to the Wall' is an amazing song.
So good to see someone else here being happy about Edguy! Avantasia too, but they've become FAR more popular and Edguy usually gets overlooked completely. That sure was a neat surprise in this video.

Electric Callboy (they changed from Eskimo to Electric) are definitly worth checking out if you want to get in touch with some fresh modern german Metal.

From the stories my father used to tell me he actually knew the Scorpions as they used to practice at the same Hanover studio when they were young. Actually got a signed letter and guitar for one of my birthdays. Always been sceptic about whether that's true but considering that they grew up around the same area and both were hard rock bands, it would make sense and is believable.
You should definitely make a reaction to Electric (Eskimo) Callboy "Hypa Hypa". It's really worth it, such a funny video. They actually sampled some parts of a Scooter song, thats why you thought it sounded like Scooter. "Die Ärzte" and "Seeed" are also very known and great bands from Germany you should give a listen to.

Hier kommt Alex rocks so hard 🤘 I'm most happy that Die Toten Hosen and Die Ärzte also popped up in this. Imho you should really check them out, even if their texts are German. And yes, The Scorpions were the most famous Rock Band from Germany before Rammstein entered the stage 🤘 This list was very interesting since it also contained Bands I didn't even know were from Germany 😅 Ashes to my head 😅

"Hier kommt Alex" (Here comes Alex) is a song by German punk band Die Toten Hosen. It is the first single and the first track from the album Ein kleines bisschen Horrorschau. Die Ärzte are a must, also there is a huge folk rock scene in germany, you should check out Saltatio Mortis and Schandmaul and if you're into classic / hard rock, Kissin' Dynamite are amazing!
Who I miss in there would be Doro (Warlock), Axxis, and, if you like old school, Stormwitch. Of those shown, Helloween, Oomph and Scorpions are definitely among favourites.

Edguy, Blind Guardian and Helloween 😍I love Power Metal a lot and I'm excited to see these bands on the list, even though it seems strange to me, haha. It's a funny mix of Pop Rock, Pop Punk, Grunge, Metal, Neue Deutsche Härte (NDH), Deutschrock and Metalcore.
Check out Blind Guardian's "The Bards Song" and "Valhalla" from Wacken 2016. The first song was on this list too. But honestly? This performance is absolutely stunning.
Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

Some 15 years ago i was told on my way to my first metal open air festival that i have to learn the lyrics of 'Bards Song' cause that is just the german metal open air hymn. It didn't take me long to learn it, cause people were singing that randomly at any time indeed.

Glad i watched this; I had no idea that Tokio Hotel and Guano Apes were German bands. One band who I thought would be here but wasn't is Bell Book and Candle, who really had that '90s female singer alt-rock thing down. Kinda strange that Apoptygma Berzerk's not here, either. Yeah, their pre-2002 music was all genius-level electro-goth dance music, but when they brought the guitars in they hit a whole 'nother level. Lastly, Lord Of The Lost is fucking great - you'd do well to check out their music just for yourself, regardless of whether you ever do react videos to them or not.
Hey Mert I have to say the other Comments are right about the fact that the Songs were a bit short cut. But as other persons Mentioned "Die Ärzte" are one of the most popular Bands from Germany for their Genre and you have to listen to some of their songs. Same for "Die Toten Hosen" although German Punkrock Fans will still be argueing for another 200 years which of the two is the better Band :D As a citizien of North Germany I would also Recommend "Torf Rock" which ist the Band who wrote the Songs from the "Werner" Movies. But over all Germany has many great artists in a really great bandwith of genres. Since a lot of them like to play with the German language in their Lyrics I would highly recommend to listen to full songs. If you are interested I can start putting together a little Playlist on Spotify.
Of these I really love Scorpions, Blind Guardian, Wir sind Helden ("Denkmal" is so important to me, that song WOULD be played during my wedding, like I'd insist xD), Die Ärzte...

And if you want to learn something about very different kinds of Rock music from Germany, check out Feuerschwanz and V2A. Both are great bands with fantastic shows, the latter is not as well known as the'd deserve, Industrial at its best!
there is a very fine bbc docu i could recommend: "Krautrock -The Rebirth of Germany" from 2009 on yt. it's a bit longer but very informative. krautrock had a lot of fans in the uk.
You 100% have to see Annemaykantereit. Thier lead singer has an absolutely fenomenal voice. They made a cover of Tom's Diner wich seemingly blew up on Tik Tok.

Mate you should check out Heaven Shall Burn more, but they're going pretty hard. But very thoughtful melodic deathcore imo with great lyrics. Also the vocalist is still working as a nurse part time.
I´m personally very partial towards Lord of the Lost and Eisbrecher, also because both bring great energy live :D A smaller band to watch out for might be Schattenmann, they´re still quite small but went on tour with Eisbrecher and been growing their numbers since then.

If you want to check out different types of good German music you should look for songs by "Unheilig" (what a voice...), e.g. "Als wär's das erste Mal" or "Unter Deiner Flagge", or by "Heinz-Rudolf Kunze" e.g. "Längere Tage", "Dein ist mein ganzes Herz" or "Finden Sie Mabel", or by "Rosenstolz" e.g. "Perlentaucher", "Gib mir Sonne", or by "Revolverheld" e.g. "Halt Dich an mir fest" or "ich lass für Dich das Licht an" - there are so many good German bands/singers/songwriters!

I haven't commented on your site yet. But your video about German music is interesting. I love the music of the 80s. Someone who grew up in England won't have heard much from Germany because there was enough excellent music in the UK at that time. If you're still interested, why don't you listen to Wolf Maahn, Die toten Hosen, Klaus Lage, Ulla Meinecke or Stoppock? Apart from Die toten Hosen, they're probably pretty unknown abroad, but good music.
Most underated German Rock Musicians/Bands/Songs of the 80s & 90s: Axel Rudi Pell, Axxis, Doro Pesch (Warlock), Fury in the Slaughterhouse (Time to Wonder, etc.), H-Blockx, Guano Apes, Marius Müller-Westernhagen (Sexy, etc.), Letzte Instanz (Rock/Gothic), Unheilig (Gothic/Rock the early ones), Böhse Onkelz (Punk/Rock)... Some of them shows the soul and spirit of german history: Barbarians (Netflix Series out on October 2020, in the year 9 (and the following 2000 years) after christ

Scooter is indeed german. the artist name of the lead "singer" is H.P. Baxxter with the h and p standing for Hans Peter.
This was not sorted after the streaming numbers, those numbers were just like an extra information. As any personal list it is highly open to debate, still i liked it and appreciate that someone did all the work to put in the snippets. And sure people will comment the snippets are way to short, but that is the only chance to not directly get the video taken down by copyrights and then you see nothing or could react too.
I really enjoy watching your reaction videos because you are obviously very interested in Germany. This compilation shows the German dilemma. The entire GDR rock music is missing, although music from the time of divided Germany is also featured here. There were very good bands in the GDR, many of which also performed in what was then the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin. "am Fenster" by the GDR band "City" was also very well known in the West at the time and was an extraordinary rock song with a violin solo. I would highly recommend that you listen to this music if you are interested in Germany as a whole country. The members of Rammstein grew up in the GDR but the band was only founded in the 1990s, after reunification.
You are certainly not entirely wrong with your comments, but I would like to point out that large areas of German rock music are excluded from this compilation because they do not fit into streaming behavior and were active in the era before the Internet. Many of them don't even have music videos. Bands in the compilation that have been playing since the 1960s and 1980s, such as Scorpions, Helloween etc., were already internationally active at this time and are streamed internationally. And I agree with you that important acts get overlooked and don't get the credit they deserve. The big names like Puhdys, Silly, or it really hurts me that the all-German icon Nina Hagen is not represented. But important representatives like Lindenberg or areas like Krautrock also fall through the cracks. But even though I have put your comments into perspective a bit, you have raised a very important point. Oh it seems your drawings are phantastic.
@@perrosol-ns4cc8ot4t That wasn't even meant as Ostalgie. We also listened to a lot of Western music in the GDR. I also say that this is a dilemma in Germany. The two systems meant there was no common music market, but I could imagine that the nice Scottish operator of the channel, who deals quite intensively with Germany, would also like to hear and analyze something from the GDR. This should be much more unknown to him.

Yes, the 'döp döp' in Hypa Hypa has been stolen or lent from Scooter. I think the song is called 'Maria' where you can hear that party choir sound. Of course they used a different melody.

Hi Mert, in my opinion the early songs of The Scorpions are still the best ones. Also in view of your reactions I'd recommend to you listening to the albums "Virgin Killer", "Lovedrive", "Animal Magnetism" and "Blackout".
Scorpions have been enormously successful in USA - so much so that some people are quite surprised to hear that they're from Germany.
There are two punk bands in Germany which you'll probably like too: Die Ärzte (The Doctors/GPs) and Die Toten Hosen (The Dead Trousers; alluding to the German phrase "Da ist nix los, da ist tote Hose" - it's boring, nothing happening, nothing going on, lit. it's dead trousers/pants).

Annotation: Bochum is Grönemeyers home town where he grew up. It was a town of mining and industrial factories quite in the middle of the Ruhr area, the largest industrial and urban agglomeration in Germany. Before actually starting to sing his song "Bochum" he begins by singing the "Steigerlied", a traditional miners' song.
My Favorit Band is Rammstein because the Lyric is fantastic and also the Music is my Style. But „Die Toten Hosen“ are my second Favorite Band. They are a Bald from Düsseldorf and im also from Düsseldorf. They had a very nice Cooperation with our local Football Club (Fortuna Düsseldorf). Such a nice Jersey. While i writing this comment I have it on. Number 28 Rouwen Hennings. My all time Favorite. But he is Old and now Playing at Sandhausen… Nice Video!

definitely love the usual, rammstein, ärzte, die toten hosen, guano apes (which i didn't even know were german) but also a big fan of edguy and scorpions are absolutely legendary and i very much agree with people that the snippets were way too short to really catch how they sound
"Hier kommt Alex" by Die Toten Hosen is interesting: One of the most successfull german Punk-Rock-Songs, made by a Band that tried to stay out of politics until they felt they could not be silent any more when racism grew after the fall of the wall. There are even cover versions in english language, so it should be 'easy' to dive into this one... but beware, it can be a deep dive.
I love Die Toten Hosen! One of the best bands in germany.
When I remember back the Rock I listened to as a kid and teenager it was mainly punk-rock. We had a lot of these bands in Germany in the 80s/90s
Don't you mean "Schrei nach Liebe" by "Die Ärzte"?
Die Toten Hosen seemed always more political whereas "Die Ärzte" are more like a Ramones-type Fun Punk band.
The Tote Hosen song "Hier kommt Alex" is from their "Clockwork Orange" themed concept album "Ein kleines bisschen Horrorshow"... Their best one in my opinion.
