Sportsnet literally produces the broadcasts in the first place, so while sentimentally I agree, from a practical standpoint I don't agree. Same thing with ESPN producing ABC's sports coverage.

This reminds me of the letters intro that I loved when I was little. It's where we see a puck with the old HNIC logo falling on the ice, then the letters that spell HOCKEY is over an animated footage of Habs & Leafs players and more letters that spell HOCKEY is all over footage of the players as the words HOCKEY flashes, then NIGHT flashes then fades slowly including the letters that spell HOCKEY leading to MOLSON HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA ON CBC. I remember that one.

Rogers ruined HNIC. The music is terrible, the production value is terrible, and the intro is so dull. CBC had the best sports broadcasts in North America if not the world. What happened in 2006? Oh right. Well, I'd like to say that will teach us, but I really don't think so. Corporate sports is garbage. All the camera angles in the world doesn't always equal a quality broadcast. Whether it was baseball, football, hockey, curling or the Olympics, CBC got the job done. TSN was good in the 90s, but they've gone south too - in more ways than one. Once CBC lost the rights to the original theme music, it was all over. Whenever there's a game, I always mute the Sportsnet/fake HNIC intro and turn up the REAL intro from the early 90s. And if I'm in a really good mood, I turn on the original "Shoot Out The Lights" by the Carpet Frogs that played before almost every Canucks game (the 2nd game of the doubleheader) in the 90s. My ears bleed when I listen to Sportsnet's Canucks intro now. It sounds like someone wanted to destroy R&B once and for all.

Of course it has to be a woman doing the voice. I’m fine with it if the last guy got canned or something, but when they just get him off of there in order to bring in a woman, it’s just stupid. Her voice is nowhere near as epic as his. His voice was perfect! “The following is a presentation of Sportsnet and Hockey Night In Canada, in association with the National Hockey League!” Now HNIC is almost out of this…everything is Sportsnet now. If CBC can’t get HNIC back in 2024, it’s gone for good. Soon it’ll just be the same as any other night: Scotiabank Saturday Night Hockey.

2026 is the end of the 12 year deal, CBC said it had no interest in purchasing pro sports, keep in mind Rogers did not need to sublicense Saturday Night games to CBC and playoff games so then Hockey Night In Canada would already be dead because CBC owns HNIC name.

@@DickyCox if bell media purchase the rights in 2026 they need to have CBC on the air with them and it’s good if TSN RDS CTV gets it since they have the original HNIC theme and know how to run stuff with other broadcasters.
if CBC gets it it may not be the same but it will be better the original Canadian gold or the original HNIC theme and CBC can partner with TSN like in the 2010s thru 2014.
and I think the reason why TSN bought the HNIC theme was to help CBC since they thought that they might lose the rights and they did but when they lost it they thought they could buy the rights but Rogers had to use their cell service budget to help with the rights. They did not even think they just said 5.3 BILLION oh sh*t why did I say that and betman said SOLD TO ROGERS. And all of Canada was pissed. CBC was pissed off that they had to say we are done. But in 2021 CBC along side with TSN and RDS they have CHL Canadian hockey league rights and its epic not the best graphics and stuff but it’s good to see hockey running by CBC not by stupid Rogers and their cell service and fraud.
