  • After dropping the hedge cutter on the floor earlier this year I thought I would adapt the cutting blade to fit my angle grinder.
    Its a bit like those chain saw angle grinder videos I have seen but I think this is the first hedge cutter version

  • @toomuchtruth
    @toomuchtruth Před 5 lety +1

    This is just awesome! Really impressive craftsmanship. Question: Would this work at fullspeed with a non-variable speed grinder, or did you have to run this at a lower speed?
    It would be cool if these were a mass produced and cheap attachment for grinders, it would save a lot of money! I'd like for there to be more multi use tools, for most non industrial work multipurpose tools are sufficient I think.

    • @projectmayhemUK
      @projectmayhemUK  Před 5 lety

      I run this on a lower speed which runs at the same speed as the original grinder, It does run at full speed but I haven't used it at that speed because it feels like it will break
      I think you can buy a chainsaw adapter for an angle grinder, I don't know if they came out before or after make it extreme made his chainsaw angle grinder

      @toomuchtruth Před 5 lety

      @@projectmayhemUK Hey, thanks for the info. Grinder speeds are so fast that it makes sense that at full speed it'll threaten snapping the attachment.

    Hello Mr. Sean Beardon,
    Sorry for the trouble, do you happen to have some sort of drawing or planning document that I can ask for? This is a really good build and I'd like to use this project as a reference for my college capstone group assignment.
    Our project is about tea plucking machine from a cordless angle grinder attached to a hedge trimmer blade like your build from this video. We're currently having doubts in our design and it'd be such help if you have one for a reference.
    Is it possible to further contact you for our inquiries? Thank you very much!

    The reason your welds won't stick to the main gear is because it's made out of powdered metal. Its basically metal dust that's heated and pressed together like MDF.

    Kinda cool but if u count the hrs spent making that and materials, u could have just replaced the motor in the trimmer for a lot less time and money. You coulda proly bought a cordless trimmer for the time materials n effort spent. I liked it tho but the whole time i was shaking my head saying thats too much work lol

    Good job repurposing that hedge trimmer. BTW, you might not want to drill into anything not held in a vise and the vise bolted down on the drill press. You don't want to learn the hard way. Shit happens, don't let it accidentally happen to you. I almost had a fingernail ripped off when the metal I was drilling into suddenly started spinning. Lesson learned, I'll never do that again. I see people do this all the time on CZcams and on TV and it makes me cringe every time.

    I thought it was a quick hack but seems like a major refurbishment. It might be better to either buy another one or a motor from eBay.
