      It reminds me of a love story from 1980 starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour which is like terminator in its ingenious concept which also involves time travel and a photograph and the same situation whereby in the photo she is actually smiling at him.....it blows your mind! I always wondered was James Cameron inspired by this film or indeed the book? There are also parallels between his film Avatar and an animated film from 1992 called Ferngully...

      @@crohnicgamer5089 I find story of T1 better then T2. If it had same budget and made with tech of early 90s it would be better movie. T1 feels more like real story and T2 more like teenage boy wet dream.

    • @CzarsSalad
      @CzarsSalad Před 4 lety +19

      @@goran77ish Terminator was more of a horror/action movie. Sure, the horror element definitely provided better character development. But T2 was more of an action movie. So the presentation of the story was more different of course. IMO, Terminator and T2 are more or less 2 very distinct movies and comparing the two is futile.

    • @goran77ish
      @goran77ish Před 4 lety +3

      @@CzarsSalad I agree. T2 is the best action movie but I like the story and villain in first one better. Sorry T1000 pulls me out and feels fake. Feels more like magic then futuristic tech. I like them both tho. The Terminator feels like one off story and T2 like they made up lot of stuff as they went, which is what Cameroon did. It opened the door for future ratcons and changes so movies after it are a mess. What I would like as sequel is what Salvation should have been. They did it bad tho.

    Funny you should mention James Camerons imagination to write this, because how he came to write the screenplay for this movie is a story unto itself. He was sick in bed, and had a nightmare of a red-eyes cyborg killing machine. He woke up, sat up in bed, grabbed a notepad, and started writing. So this movie was literally one of his nightmares put to the big screen

    As great as T2 is, this first one is still my favorite Terminator movie and I wish the movies would go back to this smaller, character-driven, horror/thriller route instead of focusing just on big-budget action.
    And seeing this, I also wish Arnold would have taken more villain roles in his career.

    The Terminator is a killer. He had a mission and is programmed to carry it out. If I'm not mistaken, it only killed when it had to. A lot of information and records were lost when the war started, so it had no idea what Sarah looked like. It's why he used the phonebook and went down the list. The three guys pull knives, the boyfriend attacks him, etc.
    I loved this movie, though I saw it after I saw part 2. Whenever you get to the sequel, I suggest the director's cut. It has some really great scenes added into it.

  • @bloodymarvelous4790
    @bloodymarvelous4790 Před 4 lety

    One of my all-time-favorite movies. I also love how this movie is structured, where you see something that doesn't gel with what you'd expect, and it gets explained after. Like how The Terminator gets shot and still gets up, followed by a POV shot showing it's a cyborg. Or how The Terminator doesn't feel pain, yet limps after getting hit by the truck. Then you see the damage to the leg after the flesh's been burnt away.
    Also love how the time travel is cyclic. Kyle being the parent of the guy who sends him back in time. Originally, the camera was supposed to pull back from the manufacturing plant, to show the sign "Cyberdyne Systems", but they scrapped the scene before shooting it.
    Also, this was James Cameron's first feature film. (Yeah, technically Piranha 2 was his first, but he was fired from that movie. Fun fact: James broke into the editing studio after he was fired and cut Piranha 2 himself in order to rescue what he could.)
    The Terminator effects were done by Stan Winston, who was still at the beginning of his career. He became the go-to guy for James, which launched his career to stardom. (Fun fact: James Cameron provided all the designs for the endoskeleton. Stan would trick James into providing him with detailed sketches which he would then produce and take credit for :)).

    also in a deleted scene, workers in the factory the terminator is destroyed in find a chip they call a micocomputer chassis, which they hide from the police. As Sarah is taken away in the ambulance, they reveal the name of the factory company: Cyberdyne Systems. So the terminator became the inspiration for Skynet, the AI that later built the terminators. So there's also a predestination paradox, where the future and past is fixed in a loop, with not only John Connor's origin, but also Skynet's origin. They are the cause of each other. It's called a paradox because it doesn't make sense to us logically, but it does in the context of the film universe.

    I saw this movie in the theater during it's first weekend. It's a very good study in being a multiple genre film. It's starts out as a suspence thriller, becomes an action movie and ends up being a horror film at the end. All the while being a well-written Sci-Fi movie. One of my favorites.

  • @TheBardeng
    @TheBardeng Před 4 lety

    FUN FACT! The terminator at 08:32 is Franco Colombo. Arnold’s best friend who recently passed away. 54 years of friend ship. He got small roles like that and even listed in movies as co director/producer because Arnold demanded that from the movie industry. Everything Arnold got in his life is mostly because of Franco.

    Fun trivia that some may not know: The terminator was originally written for Lance Henriksen to play, the idea being that he would be an unstoppable killing machine who looked like any ordinary guy and could blend in with other humans at will. A more passive kind of horror monster. Then Arnie came along and auditioned for the role of Reese, but James Cameron thought Arnie would make a more fearsome movie monster than Henriksen, so he decided to shift direction and make the terminator a large, scary character, rather than a regular looking guy. Henriksen was then written in as a cop, so he would be able to be part of the film that was originally meant for him. Two years later, James Cameron would write Henriksen into Aliens(1986) as an android.
    Clearly James Cameron was right. But it's always interesting to imagine how it may have turned out, had they gone with the original vision.

    The 1st film is considered a horror film. The effects were done by Stan Winston(who was at ILM at the time) and Dennis Muren. The next film is Judgement Day. After that there is a timeline split one way it goes is Rise of the machines(3), Salvation(4) and Geneysis(5). Each getting worse and worse according to many. The 2nd timeline is the film JUST coming out now(starring both Arnie and Linda)

    9:01 To answer you ladies that question: No. It is suposed to happen. Kyle is the real father of John Connor and being sent back in time not only assures that Sarah is safe, but also assures she will get pregnant of John. It's kinda how the time loop works in the Terminator timeline. If Kyle isn't sent back, Sarah dies, John is gone and the machines terminate humanity in 2029. If Kyle and Sarah don't fall in love and get laid (sorry the term), John is never born. It's not to say that his mission is to make Sarah pregnant because he didn't even knew he was the father when he got his mission in the future 😂😂😂
