  • Let's hang out with Adam has he unboxes and checks out for the first time this artifact from the release of the 2004 Hellboy movie. It's a rare press kit that was sent out to film media ahead of the movie's debut, and comes courtesy of a friend on The RPF. Created as a way to introduce the movie's characters to journalists, the presentation of this press kit is in and of itself a lovely bit of world-building from the Hellboy universe!

As someone who saw a lot of press kits around that time, it's definitely one of the more impressive ones. Since that was around the time press kits were transitioning to being online only, I'm guessing that CD is actually a CD-ROM, probably containing most of the standard press kit material (bios, plot summary, credits, making-of stories, publicity stills). The VHS would normally include clips that could be used in reviews, and possibly some making-of footage, but it also could be something special.

VHS players are no longer made, but they can be found pretty easily either old/unopened or refurb on Amazon and eBay. The last manufacturer, Funai of Japan, halted production in 2016 due to lack of sales so what is out there in the wild is all that will ever be. A number of companies made machines specifically for burning VHS tapes to DVD media, so they shouldn't be hard to find, but they weren't known for being very reliable or long lasting.

4:14 I still own 3 VCR players but I'll admit its probably been 20 years since they played anything even though there powered up and ready to go, my mum has a little pink ghetto blaster with a built in cd that she has likely used once, I probably have some old things that most people nowadays will have never seen just put away in storage.

  • @brandonyoung-kemkes1128

They absolutely do make those but the VCRs in them usually burn out after a while or the DVD player depending on the model. I’m so glad I don’t have to use those things anymore.

I do own a VCR/DVD Combo player; you just never know when you'll need one. Not a hoarder but I'm a "bit of a Luddite" (my phone is still a BlackBerry); there is value in the old.

i think all DVD/VHS players also did CD. Never seen a blueray/VHS, but that would be bizarre. A few years ago i saw them in pawn shops when i was looking for stuff for a different project, so pawn show might be quick easy place to start.
