Hey friends, this show has been exceptionally difficult to get on the channel without completely removing the sound from it. If you are interested in supporting the channel and enjoying the streams as they were originally aired, you can do so through www.patreon.com/bradybyrne.

"Baby Grandma" is how think of Frieren a lot as well!
She clearly has the wisdom of someone who has lived a long time, but has a sort of carefree attitude towards a lot of stuff that feels childlike. Her trying to learn to understand people and relationships feels like something you'd have to learn growing up, but the very slow and deliberate way she goes about it through almost a nostalgia trip feels older.

Oh, himmel means heaven, so looking for him in heaven is a double meaning.
the meteors are my favorite visual metaphor of the show, followed close by the mirror split in the op that pans across new and old companions at the same time

I have to pay my bills to appease my cat so he doesn't eat me instead. A different type of terror management.

You finally got a plot because the first 4 episodes belong together as a movie.

That makes total sense, they do feel kind of like a long prologue.

May I suggest watching "A Place further than the Universe"?

The author of Frieren certainly has reduced death anxiety by achieving some symbolic immortality through the popularity of their manga and show.

Another aspect to consider regarding Frieren and TMT is that to the extent that elves are merely mortal with extremely long lifespans rather than literally immortal, any attempt to gain symbolic immortality is futile, because they already live longer than anyone who would remember them. Whatever mark they leave on the world, they will probably also live to see it erased again.
What happens to a person with mortality salience but no viable path to symbolic immortality?

i feel yourmissunderstanding frieren's position on aprentissses, a typical human lilivs ~80-90yr's so if their say 15 when she meets them assuming they don't die in battle before their training is complete thy can only travel with her for ~maby 30-35years.......that's a long day to some one whos life is already over 1000 and will likely reach 5000 if sheis not killed first. it';s akin to humans getting a pet mouse/rat/or guinne pig they only live ~5-7 years nothing compared to our 80-90yr live span.

I can see the comparison but from what I see of Frieren, especially in the first episode, part of this journey is her really trying to change this perspective. She wants to understand humans and how to take special meaning from lives that are shorter, and so she is fighting against her nature which tells her not to get invested or see things that will not last as worthwhile. Therre is a lot more involvement between her and her peers and an attempt to understand them than a human would work to understand from a pet.
