I feel like this was a flex. It's a singers' song with the belting, sustained notes, vibrato, runs, etc. and a really intricate, difficult arrangement. PTX is always amazing but it just feels like this was specifically meant to showcase exactly *how* good every single member is for all the doubters who think they're just gimmicky pop or whatever.

Anyone that thinks they’re only “gimmicky” haven’t heard nearly enough PTX songs. Hallelujah, Amazing Grace, The Sound of Silence, Mad World, Imagine…hell even their “gimmicky” pop covers should’ve cleared that up 😂

Scott is singing Andrea Bocelli's part in Italian. I'm told he got the pronunciation right, although he has an obvious American accent. Celine Dion's lyrics (sung here by Mitch) translate it into English.
_Evergreen,_ their 2021 Christmas album, is where they first released the audio of "The Prayer," and now (January, 2023) _Evergreen_ has been nominated for a Grammy, for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. The awards ceremony will be on February 5th. If they win it will be Matt's first Grammy - it must be difficult being a member of a band that's won three Grammys and not having even one of your own, so especially for his sake I'm really hoping they win this one. And, of course, there's always the fact that everything Pentatonix puts out is Grammy-worthy.
This is a cover - The Prayer has been sung by many artists but most famously Celine Dion & Bocelli but Josh Groban singing this song kick started his career. Scott is singing in Italian. THIS cover has PTX upgrade all over it and is most definitely Grammy worthy!!! Much love from Canada 🇨🇦

God in Heaven led me to find Pentatonix so I could hear Angels singing on earth.
It's not a Christmas song - or at least it wasn't until PTX included it in one of their Christmas albums!
The Prayer is originally from the animated movie "Quest for Camelot" from the late '90s. It was sung in the movie by Celine Dion, but the part that was actually in the movie was only about 90 seconds long - basically 1 verse. There's a slightly longer version in the movie soundtrack, but still only about 2.5 minutes long. It was made famous by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli (hence Scott singing in Italian). Celine also did another duet with Josh Groban, which was also pretty well known.
They got a grammy for daft punk ☺ mary did you know is amazing too. Im in no way religious but this, amazing grace and mary did you know are amazing

What you were saying at the beginning about Mitch's voice standing out so much...I've noticed in their new stuff that he seems to have levelled up. I feel during lockdown he got to rest from all the ridiculous amounts of touring they did but I also think he's been puttingnin work on his vocal techniques too. He seems to be hitting higher notes and doing so cleaner/with a purer tone. Not only that his lower register has gotten more confident and comfortable for him too. He also seems happier too; perhaps part of that is feeling creatively more fulfilled with his solo project under Messer (very different music to what we're used to from him).

Not just singling Mitch out though, I think Scott has been working on using his voice more efficiently (based on things he said during his podcast with Rozzie Crane) and I think it's allowed his voice to come across so rich and full, and I think from what he said it's given him more vocal stamina (which considering he had amazing stamina before is exciting).
They've asked been working hard through the pandemic, just a good amount of it was from home for a while.

At the end of the movie, Andrea Bocelli sings the song in Italian in the credits. Their famous duet was released soon after the movie, and it's been a classic ever since.

Heck, a lot of people think "Hallelujah" is a Christmas song because Pentatonix released it on a Christmas album. I just figure fair is fair - pentaholics listen to Pentatonix Christmas songs year-round anyway, so why shouldn't Pentatonix put the occasional non-Christmas song on a Christmas album?

Loved this upgrade. Yes it is Grammy worthy, but there's a problem. It dropped too late for 2021 Grammy first round, basically making it eligible in 2022 Grammy season. Only way is if it gets enough write in votes for round two of 2021. Next problem, if it becomes eligible for 2022, it dropped way too early. Could get forgotten by vote time OR they re release it for Christmas 2022, but early enough to make round one voting. Fresh in voters memories. Probably already a plan. Great reaction by the way😎

You don't need to understand Italian. Every time Scott sings a line in Italian, Mitch's next line is the translation into English.

Pentatonix is so great. They always put in extra effort to make their music as good as it can possibly be for their fans. I've heard that they were all raised in very religion based homes. and I think when they do songs like this one or Amazing Grace or Hallelujah or a lot of their Christmas songs, that instilled faith comes shining through. I think in order to sing like they do in this song, you really have to feel it in your soul. Great reaction.
