Such a clever idea to combine a cookbook with a survival guide for this. I can see this being a very useful book to keep around whether you like The Walking Dead or not!
In Ohio, deer is nearly as accessible as beef, depending on where you are and who you know. My dad used to have a whole freezer he kept stocked with the stuff
Honestly, I love cookbooks that have more content than just recipes. And a survival guide in combination with a cookbook is a perfect combination! Survival isn't just about physical but also mental health after all! And having good food does way more for mental health than some people might think!
Man this book sounds better than some of the later seasons of the show.😂 I really love that they included descriptions for where the dish came from and the context in the show. Also the survival tips sound like they would be great for a hunting or fishing trip even if you aren't a fan of the show.
I binge watched all your videos today and now I have a new one, Wow! Always like how the post apocalyptic books try to keep things within the settings, That protein bar looked really good. Might try to make it myself
Hello! Long time lover/lurker of your channel. I've been curious about this cookbook for a few years. Seems like a good media tie-in for the show. I did want to recommend reading/browsing through "The Art of Eating Through the Zombie Apocalypse" by Lauren Wilson. I think it came out a few years before the Walking Dead cookbook. It's part field guide, part survival guide part cookbook. The recipes are categorized by what kind of survivor you'd be: someone with a pantry of fresher foods, someone working with more canned goods and dried food, a full-on prepper who has access to powdered/freeze dried food and even some recipes included that use edible bugs and foraged plants! Super neat and interesting, if you also enjoy camping and self-sustaining type ideas. :D
I really appreciate the effort you put into making quality videos in the intersection of food and nerd culture. I can tell you’re a fan of the topics you pick from the care you take with explanations and reviews. Amazing job and thank you for what you do!
I like how two of the recipes reuse the pans the main dish is cooked in to get all the stuff at the bottom. It feels like something someone in a survival situation would do so they get the most out of their cooking
Great video as always! It was interesting to hear your struggles with finding deer meat. Out in the sticks where I live, there’s always at least one person in the neighborhood with some venison in their freezer from hunting season.
I love your channel. If you take requests, I'd like to see you make some recipes from the upcoming Witcher cookbook; I believe it's being released in November.
Slightly curious about how you’d get flour in a zombie apocalypse. Not only do you have to grow cereal, you’d then have to run a mill, noisy enough to draw the zombies if they hear in the meta, and even if not, you wouldn’t be able to hear them coming.
I grew up in a very rural area where hunting is just something most people do. We had multiple freezers full of venison at my house, and to this day I can't visit home without being sent away with half a deer. It's wild to think that it's expensive in some places.
10:18 I hear you man! I have myself quite the sweet tooth too! 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 And ibwould gladly make all of these, specially the protein bars in a survival scenario!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm gonna have to get this!! That stew and fish looks sooo tasty 😍My house is pretty fond of the show and the survival guide it comes with sounds like something I'd love to have! Good food, good survival tips, sign me up 😁
Actually that deer meat recipe would be great for me. I grew up on michigan, anyone who was anyone went hinting and got their deer processed. (My family business was actually proving processing) the sad part though was that often times people didint actually use their meat because they didnt know how to use it. I grew up on venison though.
I don't know what kind of peanut butter you used for the protein bars, but with all the other very sweet ingredients, you might want to go with a sugar free variety just to keep the sweetness in check.
It's so fun watching these! I feel like I want to put you in the acknowledgements section of my own future narrative-involving cookbook because you definitely inspired me to make one
I'd pay for a patreon if you could do a homage to The Walking Dead's Saints and Sinners game to make some New Orleans cuisine and make something with Frog Legs and Alligator meat! Then again, that's the Florida in me speaking. I'd bet you could make an interesting Cuban sandwich with alligator meat.
I dot care for deer meat. The last time i had some it was rubbery. I also once got some ground deer one time and tried it in spaghetti sauce. But even ground its texture was bad. It was like ground up rubber. I dont know, maybe south carolina deer are just rubbery anyway. The flavor....i dont know. It didnt taste like much. Now moose meat is great. I had some in Alaska and it tasted better than any roast beef i have ever had. I asked them for seconds of the roast beef and they laughed and told me it was moose. So i asked them if i could have seconds of the moose. It was divine!
i've had deer jerky sticks before, pepper jack cheese mixed in to sub in the fat that deer just doesn't have, and it was delicious but wild game meat standard procedure, tenderize and add more fat then you think you'll want
You should try out The Godfather cookbook. It’s called The Corleone Family cookbook by Liliana battle. I would love if you could, I got this cookbook as a gift recently and curious if it’s any could to try out.
Because Halloween is next month I think it would be cool if you could do a video of the hocus-pocus cookbook based off 1993’s best children’s Halloween movie in my opinion
I love your videos but they’re getting samey. You make similar things from each cookbook and they’re usually simple things. I think you should challenge yourself and bring yourself out of your comfort zone a little more. I think it would make the videos more entertaining and you would grow in a culinary sense as you try new things and hone your craft. I hope this doesn’t come off as mean or anything it’s just my two cents. I know no one asked.
I appreciate the feedback! That makes a lot of sense, I have done stew several times before already. Usually I base my decisions on what has the most votes on my Patreon poll but I'll try to put more focus on different recipes. I usually experiment more in my non-review one-off videos but I'll try to keep the dishes in Cookbook Critique as varied as possible

I didn't even know a walking dead cookbook existed. neat
It was $10 at Barnes & Noble. I can't wait to try some
You should get the Stardew Valley cookbook when it comes out. It looks fun and I would love to see your thoughts on it.
Oh I'm definitely getting that! I was addicted to Stardew at one point
In Ohio, deer is nearly as accessible as beef, depending on where you are and who you know. My dad used to have a whole freezer he kept stocked with the stuff
Nice! I wish it was like that here lol
Yeah, here in Georgia my dad hunts for deer every hunting season.
Same in Wisconsin
Yup my dad got a nine point last week here in Louisiana. Tons of meat and my favorite pineapple brown sugar sausage.

Especially the episode where glen dies
@@ruffruggednraw He dies the same way in the comic
I like to think the book has been written by Carol and Daryl
That's such a cute idea that I'm gonna make it canon in my head 😊
Finally michonne can pay morgan back for the protein bar if they ever meet again 😂

The fish and deer stew look good.
Love this channel. It shows cookbooks that I really want because movie/tv/video game cookbooks are awesome. So glad to find this dude!
Glad you like the channel! Welcome aboard 😃
The only reason why i bought this cookbook is because i want to eat carl chocolate pudding
I Can't Wait Until I See A Video On Mortal Kombat Cook Book, Uncharted Cook Book Or A Grand Theft Auto Cook Book And Far Cry Cook Book.

Pretty simple recipes but a fun video. +1 for the intro.

Yeah I was so surprised! I was fully expecting the beef experience
With Starfield out, I'd love to see videos on Chunks
Neegan fighting the Burger King, Ronald McDonald, and Wendy is... amasing.
That deer stew looks amazing. I would also substitute the venison for beef though. I've never cared for wild game.
What a neat combo in this one! 👌🏼

So yeah, for cooking venison ive learned you should add beef in with it. Where venison is so lean, the beef fat helps out alot
That's actually really smart. That's what I might do with my leftover venison in the freezer

All i can think of when i think of a walking dead cookbook is how to heat cat food with a candle
Of course there's a recipe for squirrel in a Walking Dead cookbook. XD

Was that hunter biden in the intro?
Weird to hear deer being expensive lol as hunting is huge here. I hate the texture and taste. I had it once and never again
No cannibalism?
Yummy goodness 😋😋
I never watched the walking dead, but I read the comics, isn't the basic recipe just..open a can of expired can of food and eat the contents?
You really wanna see something interesting? Check out the cuisine of New Orleans in TWD saints and sinners
