Great jet! The Eflite 70 mm viper was my 1st jet and after being crashed, repaired, repainted, and rebuilt, it's still a gem. I've moved up to turbines now but I still don't hesitate to pull out the ole viperjet and ring her out! Great review as always, keep 'em coming Jon
Will do Richard, thanks! It's definitely a great jet for new pilots.
Great vid as usual, really love the telemetry!
Glad you're enjoying it!
Love my 70mm viper. Definitely need those dubro wheels excellent flying Jon and some greasy landings 👍🏻🤓🤘
Very informative video my man! It will help beginners for sure ! Nice job as USUAL 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤩🤩
Thanks Arthur!
Ordered this as a Christmas present for a friend who had a first generation Eflite 70mm Viper. (Stuck or failed aileron servo) The dreaded power dive. I like this paint scheme better.
FMS makes some good stuff. I had never owned an FMS till this summer. Started with the Yak-130. Then the 80mm Bae Hawk. Quickly became my two favorite jets to fly. Then CZcams forced me to buy a Futura v3. Without question the best jet on the market at my skill level. Their 1700mm a-10 is built, but our weather has been awful lately. Thank you two for all the informative reviews. And reinforcing my need to land slower.
Great video and great flying in that wind.
The 70mm FMS T-45 Goshawk was a good one as is the 70mm Freewing BAE Hawk. They won't bite in the air like the Viper, but they are fast. It's a little hard to keep the nose wheel from touching first and starting a series of bounces when they're nose-heavy. I've flown my 70mm Hawk with an HRB 5000mAh-6S, but they fly and land much better with a 3300.
Great review and tips! I’ll add one, reducing the nose gear length by 1/8” (or wheel size) would greatly reduce bounce tendency on landing. Not needed if operating from grass.
Thanks Brothers !!! I got this jet a couple of years ago and plan on learning how to fly EDFs. I like the blue better then the white one too. And the new tiers are ordered 👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Hope you enjoy it!
EQ ROCKS 👍🏻👍🏻🤓🤘✌️
Great video as usual! Love the onscreen gps!
The KV rating is higher and it has more copper in it.
You are totally right about this being a good trainer. It teaches the old school way. You mess up, you get slapped hard on the head, and you learn real quick not to do it again😅. Getting those landing real smooth on the viper made landing my future jets a cake walk.
Yep! That's why it's our go-to jet for beginners wanting to get into the hobby.
ICH HAb DIESES modell und kann nur bestätigen es fliegt hervorragend. Ich war selten so überrascht.!!!
Yes, I agree about the Dubro wheels. Do you prefer their low-bounce or their super-lite?
Low bounce when possible. Super-lite wheels work well too.
I love my 70mm Viper. Great first jet. The landing gear will bend like a bendy straw if you fly it off grass though. I only fly it off pavement now.
Absolutely they will. Our days of grass flying jets are generally behind us.
Hi. I did the maiden and several more flights on my new FMS Viper 70. It was sweet and the Dubro Low Bounce wheels really helped with the landings. I was using some tired batteries yesterday, but I’ve ordered some SMC 6S 3600 HV batteries to fix that! Do you happen to know if the SMC 6S 4400 HV batteries will fit/balance in the FMS Viper 70? Thanks!
They should fit, but your best choice will be the 3600 packs for price point/performance. 4400s should be great too though.
Thanks for the informative video. I had the E-Flite version and liked it, but the blue, white, gray paint scheme was too difficult to see under cloudy skies. I just ordered this version using your sponsor link. Hopefully, the Blue Angels version will be easier to see!
Thanks Micky! We noticed the sale email. Here's hoping you enjoy the Viper!
I'd like to know more about that GPS unit and how you did the on screen display? Been looking at various options to track my RC speed and haven't seen this specific one.
This is the unit we use: bit.ly/3hDkcsY
It has to be plugged into an X-bus port on your receiver, and the receiver must be bound to the transmitter with the GPS plugged into it before it will be read by the transmitter. We use an IX20SE and used an Android screen recorder to capture the telemetry data in real time, then chopped it up and placed it on-screen to add some additional value and info to the vid.
@@TwoBrosRC We do have an AR6610T that should work with that GPS. Will have to just put a camera on the transmitter display though, we have an NX6 and a Radiomaster TX16S to work with so no integral screen recorder for those I am aware of. Thanks for the info, keep up the great work!
Would you recommend putting a Gyro in the Roc Hobby/FMS version since the Eflite one comes with one? Thanks!
We usually recommend a gyro because small aircraft track better with one, and they're less susceptible to turbulence or shifting winds.
Nice Flying, this jet is a beast for the price! Is the afterburner LED stock? Or are they like the flaps you have to buy them seperate? And is it able to be be handlaunched? Thanks!
Flaps come stock. The AB is in the description. It's potentially hand launch-able but we'd definitely not recommend it.
Hi, what size Dubro Low Bounce Wheels are you using in the pier 70MM ? Thanks!
2" wheels: amzn.to/3GSFo8C
What size are the wheels you put on? I think I´m gonna put some low bounce wheels on my Yak 130 too!
amzn.to/3hMWzym - these are the wheels we used.
Hi Jon, would this be okay for hand launches and belly landings? If so, would th landing gears need to be removed to do so?
We wouldn't recommend either option.
It’s a nice jet, but my thinking is it would be a good 2nd EDF. A kind of advanced trainer to hone your skills before flying more expensive models. I looked for more forgiving jet to begin my experience. Getting a feel for the EDF instead of a prop, and using flaps for the 1st time ever was enough.
It depends on what your goals are. If you want to dive deep into jets and get a feel for what they're really like, the Viper will teach you quickly. If you want a jet but don't want to risk it as easily, the FMS Rafale 64mm and the E-flite Habu are both solid choices.
Hi
Do you recommend CROW for better landings on this jet ??
Not at all. Crow does nothing useful on this jet.
@Two Brothers Radio Control
Got one using your link! Building it this weekend.
Thanks Joe! Hope you enjoy!
@@TwoBrosRC
Jon, I want to get the 5280 Afterburner but on his site he requires a 6s balance lead. Half of my 6s are Spektrum Smart Gen2 with no balance lead. Do you know how many volts the system needs? I’m guessing he’s using 7.4v (2s) so I should be able to wire that up and just use a 2s to power the AB. Can’t find a spec sheet on the 5289AB so hoping you know. Thanks
Just saw a picture of the 6s connector coming off the 5280 controller. Looks like 4s of it is used so I guess a balance lead is the only option. That might explain why the AB is so bright!
@@Joe_Zajac fiftytwoeightyrc.com/products/g2-battery-balance-lead-adapter is what you'll need for a G2 battery. We'd personally recommend using SMC packs over Spektrum packs when you get to jets in the 80mm class for performance reasons primarily.
@@TwoBrosRC Awesome! Thanks. I’ll get the TrueFire and adapter then.
yeah its true landing this viper 70mm trickie a litte bit.
Hi
Can you tell me if crow works on this plane ?
If so what are the throw values/ratios ?
I have DX8 radio.
Thanks
It's not worth setting up on this jet.
Honestly, I’m worried about the bouncing , hoped the crow helped by reducing the speed and improved control .
Your thoughts
@@fa300ry It won't help. The ailerons aren't large enough to produce any noticeable effect on landing speeds or AoA. The bouncing is just part of landing a Viper 70 if you don't have a 100% perfect landing speed and glideslope every time. It handles it fine!
So you would reccomend this over the Rafale for a beginner becasue of the lessons it teaches?
The Rafale can teach some of those lessons but the Viper is way more upfront about them.
Hi Jon. I need a reciever for this plane. It is the second version with reflex v2. Will a 6ch spektrum ar620 be enough? I must have a free 3 swich channel for the gyro to be able to select mode or turn it off?
Use an AR631 at minimum so you can get rid of the Reflex system and set up your own AS3X rates - also for the antenna being on a lead so it won't lose signal.
@@TwoBrosRC oh so just rip out the reflex and go full spektrum instead?
Must i download the model to the new gyro or must everything be put in manually?
Check our latest Viper v2 vid, we posted the gains for ya.
You are awesome! You have always answered my questions pretty much right away. Thank you

nice
I reember in the nicad days, the saber was an electric edf jet. lol
Saber?
@@TwoBrosRC yeah, it was 30 years ago from tower hobby catalog. It is so old that there isn't even an image on google that could be shown. It was all white and you would hand launch it.
@@pokerchannel6991 Didn't even realize that EDFs were a thing 30 years ago.
That looks a lot like the old HobbyKing Tornado 75 edf model only this one has retracts and flaps.
Looks like the Tornado was based on a ViperJet. Makes sense given it's a popular scale jet to base model aircraft on.
what lipos are you using with it?
Spektrum 4000s, they're in the description.
That last landing was greasy! * Barry White voice*
i like how he puts the ace combat 7 soundtrack in the video
What’s the part numbers for the DuBro wheels you are using?
These are what we're using for all three wheels: amzn.to/3hP2va9
@@TwoBrosRC you use the 2 inch wheels for all three?
@@pug306hdi Yep. Fits without any mods. 2.25" would be preferred on the mains but they catch on the struts and won't allow it to roll.
How much does the smc 6s 4000 60c weigh? Thanks
No idea offhand. They're not sold anymore though.
@@TwoBrosRC my Roaring top 6s 3700 70c weighs 590g just wondering if that too heavy. Batteries weighs different from one manufacturer to another. If you get a chance to weigh it let me know. To late this year to Maiden it.
For those interested, smc 6s 4000 60c extreme graphene v2 wt. 553g. Found on rc forum
In my opinion, this is easily the best value dollar for dollar value for a 70 mm jet. Or for that fact, any jet.
And spare parts are super cheap, too!
w00t !
How does it compare with the FMS Avanti?
No idea. We don't have the Avanti.
I always thought of it as the step-sister of the Eflite 70mm Viper. Similar? Same gear. And I assume FMS made the Eflite Viper.
@@jeffhenderson934 FMS did indeed make the Viper. The only difference is that it doesn't use Spektrum equipment.
@@TwoBrosRC I can remedy that! LOL!
I still haven’t figured out how to get the Reflex on a 3 position switch on the ix12. Of all the FMS’s I’ve bought the last couple months, only the Rafale 80mm wasn’t converted to Spektrum.
@@jeffhenderson934 Connect the PWM signal from the Reflex gyro to a free servo channel on your receiver. Assign that channel to a three position switch. Viola.
👍👍👍👍👍
Its purty
It's got a nice paint job for sure.
The Viper will bite. The wing needs more washout. The tips will stall long before the root. You will get no warning.
Very little warning if any, absolutely.
I learned long ago not to get a plane that’s the same color the sky can be.
It's not really the same color as the sky. It has plenty of highlights on it.
Improve your video skills it is too zoom in and shaky. Makes you nauseous.
Try watching our newer content.
Loved that plane but the gear was the weak spot. Always bending on landing
The Du-Bro low bounce wheels will help a lot there.
