I drafted him in the later rounds for fantasy this year, and I've found myself watching Pistons basketball for the first time since like '04. Between him and Cade, I can't decide who's more important to the team, or the team's future. Cade is clearly more polished offensively, but Ausar is already defensively elite. He's got quick hands, good instincts on where the loose balls are headed and a major vertical. If this kid develops any kind of reliable jumpshot, and he's a lock as a 2-way star. And if NBA awards weren't so narrative driven, we'd be talking about how he's already in the discussion with Chet and Wemby for the ROY.

I honestly think Jalen Duren deserves a bit of the conversation as to who's most important long term, mostly because he's only 19. If he was 23-24 and performing like he is (not that it's bad, it's great for a 19 yo) I might be a little more meh on him but I really think that kid has a bright future, even with the recent struggles the whole team is going through. Still. But I really think Duren has the potential to be elite and a real force around the bucket. And I just don't know, there's something about Cade, in spite of his talent, that I'm just not sold on him being that guy still. Idk if other people feel this way but I feel like his finishing around the basket is really lacking sometimes, among other questions I have. He could, and probably will, still have a great career but he might be a #2 type of player, but we will see. I really hope I'm wrong about Cade and I hope they start to click here in the coming weeks/months. But I totally agree on Ausar, I was hyped about getting him, and hoped we would at #5 knowing who we'd have to choose from.

It sucks pistons are such trash their rookies get no respect for any ROY talk. Cade was robbed his rookie year and Iveys numbers were all chalked up as garbage. Thompson experiencing the same thing now, you even see JJ Reddick saying Jacquez is the third best rookie aside from Chet and wemby

He's going to be awesome. His shot looks nice. He just needs to get more and more comfortable shooting.

It's also not like he's the guy getting their volume either. Which is fine, but if we hypothetically ran our offense through him or he was Cade's first option he could pad his scoring for sure. Not saying they should do that, just pointing out his volume is low offensively too.
His shooting percentage is not horrid either, it's just not great at 40% overall, plus it's a small sample size. I think his three point shooting so far makes it seem like he's not as good of an all around shooter as he is and assuredly will become with time and confidence. Not like he's out here shooting 29% for a whole ass season like Killian Hayes.

What’s crazy is that his brother, Amen, is the same as him. He just doesn’t have the opportunity to showcase it in Houston

If they're watching Ausar, they might just have to clear some minutes to give him that chance.

I think his offensive game is gonna come together really early. Maybe his shooting won’t get there but he’s gonna understand where he can find spaces to score on the court.

Personally, I want the guy who taught Kawaii how to shoot in San Antonio. I also want Ausar to model his game off of Kawaii. If he truly has the drive I don't see why he should limit himself to being a 3 and D wing. Cade might be the leader now, but to be honest he hasn't shown me much that solidifies his position if Ausar ot Ivey turn out to be a better overall player. Just because Cade was projected to be a great player doesn't mean Ausar could be better than Cade down the line.

Oh man - the Pistons remain the most defensive minded team in NBA history!
    *Ben Wallace* (95.76 = 5th all time)
    *Bob Lanier* (98.40 = 17th all time)
    *Dennis Rodman* (100.26 = 42nd all time)
*Andre Drummond* (100.79 = 53rd all time - which is the best defensive rating of any active NBA player at the moment)
*Rasheed Wallace* (100.96 = 56th all time - better than Rudy Gobert's current rating)
*Rick Mahorn* (102.51 - better than Draymond Green's current rating)
*Bill Laimbeer* (103.94 - better than Serge Ibaka's current rating)
    Lindsey Hunter (105.6)
    Isiah Thomas (106.8)
    Chauncey Billups (107.0)
    Tayshaun Prince (107.5)
    Rip Hamilton (107.6)
    Vinnie Johnson (107.8)
    Jerry Stackhouse (108.3)
Joe Dumars (110.5 - which is acutally not a good defensive rating - but that did not stop Michael Jordan to name him the best defender he had to play against...)
Now Ausar Thompson... (Who hopefully stays healthy and keeps on improving.)
Do you disagree with my comment?
Or did I miss any other important Detroit Piston defender?
Or are there any other teams that have a "better" or at least similar defensive legacy than the Pistons?
And of course I should mention that "defensive ratings" are just numbers which are far from telling the whole story...

Rockets could have had Ausar and Sengun as their core....this seems like one day it will be a big deal and a great "what if" because Ausar and Sengun would be an elite young core to build around. Theyre stuck with empty stat Jalen Green as the hopium

If he can bump up his ppg even just to like 17-18 somewhat efficiently in a season or two and keep up everything else he does I don't see how this kid isn't a stud. And I mean he is shooting 40% overall, it's not like he's Killian Hayes lol. He def needs to work on his range too but yes, I do see him developing well and no, I don't think you're too high on him whatsoever. With his IQ and aggressiveness and athleticism and how comfortable he looks finishing near the rim I will be shocked if he doesn't see an increase in offense as he develops.
