    Thank you Raymond
    You provide exactly the sort of information and opinion I was looking for.
    Moreover your presentation was clear, concise and well-paced, with helpful simple calculations of point values for various redemption categories.
    And, to top it off, you told us about the OneWorld option which was a total revelation to me.
    Thanks again!

    I fully agree that the One World Classic Rewards is hands-down the best way to use Qantas points. In your value calculations, however, you forgot to deduct the taxes which can be quite hefty. My upcoming One World Classic Rewards redemption cost me 318,000 points and $2500 in taxes for 11 flights on 7 different airlines with a total distance of 32,500 miles. Another advantage of the One World Classic Rewards redemption is that unlike paid round-world fares, you can back-track which allows you to fit in a lot more flights and stop-overs. When I value my own points the formula I use is (V-T)/P where "V" is what I would be willing to pay in cash for the trip. I usually base my "Value" of the trip on the occasional heavily discounted RTW fares on offer, a little bit like your recalculation of the value of points to buy headphones being valued based on the Big-W price. At the moment, these start at around $7,000 but are bit more restrictive in terms of stopovers and back-tracking than One World Classic Rewards. For a simpler trip, taxes would probably only be about $1500, so that translates to about 1.7 cents per point.

    Thank you for sharing! Your videos are very concise and easy to understand. Very helpful so far 😊 And to continue on this topic, I would love to see a comparison of the best credit cards the accumulate Qantas Frequent Flier Points for which has the better value between fees, bonus points and extras

    How can I work out the upgrade cost from a normal economy ticket to business? Thanks.

  • @paulgerrard9227
    @paulgerrard9227 Před 8 měsíci

    You missed a key issue for upgrades. Paidseats rank behind classic reward seats ignoring Ff tier. A bronze member with a classic seatcreward will upgrade ahead of a cash fare by most other tiers. Tyen pts plus pay ranks ahead of cas too !! Hence using classic rewards seat redemption plus upgrades are cheaper and more successful

  • @paulgerrard9227
    @paulgerrard9227 Před 8 měsíci

    Many assume classic rewards are all same. A classic rewards points plus pay is far cheaper. Eg 41900 pts Syd-Lax v 235000 for a full rewards seat. The classic rewards pts and pay has 178 cost for saving 189000 pts. And they are far far more abundant

  • @paulgerrard9227
    @paulgerrard9227 Před 8 měsíci

    Qantas classic pts plus pay can sometimes include AA on the Syd-Lax route. With prem economy as a upgrade it can be a massive saving. Qantas quote the upgrade but its the total fare but yey misdescribe it as extra..its not...So a Econ fare may be 41900pts +$178. Then the PE AA upgrade is quoted at 71450pts. But its not that at all. Its under 39000pts extra.

    To be honest, I’m over Qantas.
    A loyal customer for years, I’ve notice Qantas has crashed their points value.
    Before Covid, the points had value, apparently now after Covid, they are worthless.
    With 800k points in my account, I’m past going to Qantas, other provider are getting my attention and business.

    • @raymondla
      @raymondla  Před rokem +1

      I have definitely noticed that trend as well, AMEX or CitiBank are great alternatives if you don't want to be locked into one airline program.

      Sadly I’m finding better deals on Webjet.
      I tried to stay loyal.
      A can see Qantas wanting another public bail out soon.
      Alan might need to tender his letter!
