Loved seeing you and your sister and Dad walking the fields! Never gets old for you all I'd imagine and especially nice with the decent growing weather you have been able to get this years after so many seasons of drought! Your walk reminded me of how much I loved growing up in Southern California and walking on the beach my Grandma had her house near! Always enjoy seeing you laugh with Jan! I’ve found most farmers would prefer mud over dust any day. We’re kinda dry here in South Central Virginia , USA . Pleased send us some of that rain please and thank you.

Hey, often wondered when I see you feeding the calves milk- do they receive water at all? There's obviously no water bowls in the pens. Here in the uk as part of red tractor farm assurance, calves must have access to clean fresh water all the time.
So when the Udder gets empty the milker falls off?
Pretty much! The milker has a sensor that senses the ebb of milk flow and comes off when the flow stops.

turns out more energy in the atmosphere means more rain and faster growth rates (and never seen before storm intensities - the other side of the coin). I noticed this extrapolated growth rate two years ago here - everything in the great lakes basin is GROWING!! Not just up, but filling out and bushy! Looks like we can face coming emergencies with policy that 'larders' away for the bad times (like Jan's idea of having a feed buffer).

Do you pick a Certain Cow to Collect milk for Calves?
Any treated cows get milked out and that milk is fed to the calves, along with a select few extras to make sure we have enough for all the calves.
Is all the rye you harvest for feed?
What were you asking your dad about birds during that walk? I couldn't catch anything you said other than the word birds
We were saying it’s funny that the rye is strong enough for them to sit on the plants lol.
