Hi Dr. Dray! I know that I made this comment on your Instagram post, but I thought I'd make it here for those who aren't on there. I have VERY sensitive skin and I tolerate both the Missha and Neogen essences very well. However, the reason that I had starting using essence was to prep my skin for my prescription Retin-A Micro as I live in a very dry environment. Missha has lactic acid in their essence, so it doesn't combine well with retinol. I've been using the Neogen essence with my prescription for about a year, and I've had no issues. I apply the essence when my skin is still damp, and then I apply the retinol once my face is dry followed by my PM moisturizer. Hope this helps anyone who is considering combining essence with retinol!

Will both the Neogen and the Missha work with a Glycolic acid? You are also saying here that the Missha does “not” pair well with Retinol products. I alternate with using a glycolic product and a retinol product.

    • @americanfairy
      @americanfairy Před 3 lety

@@kosmosbjm I'm honestly not sure. Lactic acid, which is in the Missha essence, is an alpha hydroxy acid just like glycolic acid. You would essentially be layering two AHAs if you did that. I couldn't say if it would interact with the Neogen essence. I use a BHA toner in the mornings, and I only use essence in the evenings. Of course, I'm not a dermatologist. I'm still learning just like everyone else. Maybe give the Neogen essence a try and see if it works? Or maybe try a patch test?

I have been living/working in Seoul, South Korea for over two years now and have been immersed in their prolific and highly affordable skincare.
Essentially an "Essence" and "Toner" (the Korean word for Toner is Skin... Literally) are virtually interchangeable. It depends on what that particular brand wants to label it as, although typically essences have (more) active ingredients. More Western inclined brands may label a similar product a "Toner". Occasionally a brand is super EXTRA and have both an essence and toner... Although I can't think of an example off the top of my head.
    The typical order is:
Essence /Toner (depending on the brand)
    Serum
    Lotion
    Moisturiser
Most people would use either a lotion or a moisturiser in one sitting and not both, depending on their skin type/ moisture needs and if it for the day or night.
I have tried both the Neogen and Missha. They are both good. I think the Neogen is more expensive whereas the Missha is frequently found in 1+1 deals over here (I.e. BOGO)

i'm a die hard fan of the missha essences (from this one, to the mugwort, to the red algae), love them so much. for my night time routine, i usually follow them up with a matrixyl serum or the paula's choice serum from the "calm" line, and a simple moisturizer with peptides (cerave), or sometimes the nutrition cream from pyunkang yul. then i'll go in with epiduo forte, prescribed by my dermatologist, which is quite drying, so i need to focus a lot on hydration in my nighttime routine. especially since winter is coming here in berlin and i'm quite natural dry/sensitive/reactive as it is. i finish everything up with a petrolatum based product and my skin has honestly never been happier. thank you so much for always sharing your experience, dr dray!!

My skin overall is brighter, more hydrated, products applied afterward absorb better. I put mine in a spray bottle so I can spritz with wild abandon. The formula has changed over the years. Older versions of the formula formerly licorice in addition to Niacinamide but that was removed a year or so ago. It'd be nice if it were added back to the formula, it's still my favorite Essence product though. :)

Okay. First of all, getting in and graduating in medicine is quite hard, so you should really love it in order to spend at least 8 years in college, two usmle steps to graduate and a third to get a medical license. Now, based on your scores, you may aspire to certain medical residencies, but you also need someone from the same specialty to know and support you in order to pass the interviews, especially in dermatology. Dermatology is one of the most wanted medical specialties and because of the that, the best scores and/or people who have family in the field get in.
Now, if you understand that this is not an easy way, but you love medicine, I say go for it. Just keep in mind this is a really long career to study where you will probably start making good money at your mid 30s and at least in the US, you will have a big debt to take care of while trying to be independent from your family.
      Source: I'm a doctor.
Edit: not from the US, but I used their career model to explain, since I assume you’re also from the States because you’re asking an US based derm.

The hormonal acne was never really bad, but there were always a few painful lumps deep under the surface of my skin. The SK-II Essence completely rid me of those. I now may get some small pimples once in a while, but they are always topical. Not sure I have seen any brightening results from the essence, but my uneven pigmentation is definitely getting better over time when there aren't constantly deep pimples appearing somewhere.

Two easy tricks to keep stainless looking nice, first try toothpaste, it’s a mild abrasive and made to polish as well as clean and it will make your sink look nice. You do have to dry out the sink after rinsing. Second suggestion is baking soda, sprinkle in onto wet sink, let it sit a minute then scrub gently with a sponge, rinse and wipe dry. Either option will make stainless shine without scratching. Just an aside, the baking soda will work as well or better to clean anything you would use a Comet type cleanser on and rinse away much easier.

Hello! I have been using the Missha essence for about 2 months. I love what is does for my skin. I purchased after a video you did which gave us a discount. I’ve had no irritation issues and find my “wiser” skin does appear more hydrated 😉! Happy Sunday! Wet Sunday in South Florida due to tropical storm Eta...🌧🌧🌧

I actually liked the Neogen essence better. I never got irritated skin with either really, but I think the Neogen was more a bit soothing. But yes they are incredibly similar I think.

I use the Neogen essence. I have to use a lot of topical prescriptions for my acne (tazorac, benzoyl, glycolic acid wash, etc) and even with my super sensitive skin I love this product. I can tell a huge difference in my skin when I run out of it, I start to see dry patches of eczema around my nose and mouth and my skin feels tight and flaky. This gets rid of all of that. It's a must have if you use tretinoid and want to keep your skin hydrated and glowing.

Hi Dr. Dray, Happy Sunday. I started using the Time Revolution when you did a video on it about a month or so ago. It irritated my skin at first, but then my skin accepted it. Within maybe two weeks, my face looked so much better. My melasma started to lighten and break apart. I did however add the Murad Aha bha wash also around the same time. I love the Time Revolution. Thanks for recommending it.

I received the Neogen in an Allure beauty box. Really like it. Definitely makes my skin smoother and brighter. One of the few products that made a notable difference along with the Paula’s Choice bha2%. Went on vacation without either and by the end of the week I could see my pores clogging up. Won’t go away without again.

Put sheet mask, 10-15 min, slather Vaseline over skin and lock in hydration. I have been using this method three nights a week (coz sleeping with Vaseline is annoying) and it has made a huge difference in my red acne marks. Change your pillow or put a towel..

Hi Dr Dray - who knew I was trendy lol. I have severely dry post menopausal skin with both type 1 rosacea and eczema. I've been using a petrolatum rich cream or balm overnight as a final occlusive layer for a long time (my own version of eczema wet wrapping for the face). I find it beneficial for holding in moisture/hydration overnight. i'm currently using either the LRP Lipikar cream/balm or the Aveeno dermexa balm.
As to the Missha or Neogen essence - i've used both and liked both. The subtle difference I noted was the Missha is more hydrating and the Neogen a little more soothing. I hope that helps others to choose. Best wishes.

I haven't tried either essence but LOVE the Neogen Real Ferment Serum. Hyram said he thought it was stronger than the essence. I noticed a difference in my skin texture almost immediately. Also, one point, while you might find YesStyle slow on delivery, it is not everywhere. I can get my order here in Dubai in a week so it might be the American postal system and not the fault of YesStyle. Maybe you could say, "if you are ordering from America, you might find delivery slow.." It's an incredible website! (no, I have no affiliation with them but in comparison with the prices for skin-care here, they are incredible).

I cannot live without the Missha First Essence! I'm going on 48 and I've been using it for the the last year and a half and it has done wonders for my skin! For fun, I ordered the Neogen Micro Essence from Costco Next (2 bottles for $40). I've only been using it for a couple of weeks (only in the mornings, and in the evenings I use my Missha First Essence). So far the only difference that I've notice is that the Neogen Micro Essence is not nearly as moisturizing the Missha First Essence, even after applying multiple layers of the the product. With the Missha, I could literally skip moisturizing if I wanted to. That being said, because I am not using the Neogen exclusively, I cannot tell if it's any better than the Missha, it's certainly not better at moisturizing my skin, but it probably doesn't need to be very moisturizing since I am layering it under my serum and moisturizer. Now that I've discovered K-beauty, I will never go back! My sensitive skin even loves the Korean make-up! I've mostly only dabbled in Missha brand products. Never has anyone ever complemented me on how good my skin looks or even so much as asked me what I use on my skin, until I started using Missha First Essence, Missha Time Revolution Serum, and their Super Aqua Snail Cell renewal Snail Cream! Now I know the meaning of Holy Grail ;))! I wish I would've cared enough about my skin to try this stuff sooner! Thank you! Love your videos!

I am a dark skin complexion with oily skin. I want to consider using it because I currently used CeraVe moisturizer with the Olay complete broad spectrum SPF 15 sensitivity but it leaves white residue on me, I just order the CeraVe tinted moisturizer per your recommended for oily skin and hopefully that will pair better with the CeraVe moisturizing cream but if that doesn't work I wanted to consider oil sunscreens.

I wasn't aware of the slugging method when I had to resort to it not once, not twice but three times when I had horrific localised reactions to using BP 😖 ugh it was just awful and I had even used it on my neck only used it (epiduo) in a small line just under my jawline. Within days I was red, bright red, and my skin was super tight and itching to high heaven. I tried everything all the moisturisers I could get my hands on until several days later something in my brain clicked and I got me some vaseline. I just layered it on like it was going out of fashion - I swear it helped sooo much and provided some instant relief plus the fact it was greasy to touch it kept me from attempting to relieve the intense itch! Within a few days my skin was able to return to normal colour, less tight and itch eventually went 😌 I never want to experience THAT EVER AGAIN... Safe to say I stopped using it 😅 I was convinced that my reaction was something to be expected, you'd think I'd have learnt from the first time but no 🙄 BP is not for everyone
