Nice video. I love Alaska, probably my favorite place. I was around the "corner" at Chenega glacier last summer, fewer icebergs but a cool place nonetheless.
You had a lot of stuff on the decks of your kayaks, makes self rescue or rescue by a friend a bit difficult. I try to keep the the of my kayaks as free as possible and only have minimum stuff on deck (extra paddle, paddle float and my GoPro). Too much on deck also makes the stability of the kayak worse.
    But again, nice video.

Jonas Alexanderson thanks for the info Jonas! You are absolutely right, that it probably wasn't the smartest means of lugging our camping gear...however it was only for a few hundred yards to an island in the middle of the lake. Would never do this in anything but placid conditions. Regardless, good info:)

Hi! My name is Susannah, and I have an opportunity to go here next summer on a scholarship program (if I make it in) to learn about glaciers, wildlife and sea kayaking. If you don't mind, I have a couple of questions? How deep is the water leading out to the glaciers? Have you been kayaking long and would you say you need to have a lot of experience kayaking to go here? thank you so much! also, this is a really cool video :)

Chapmangl7 well many of the tide-water glaciers reside in Fjords, and by definition, Fjords are very deep. Hundreds of feet deep up to the face of the glacier. Kayaking near glaciers is tricky business. When glaciers calve they create quite the wake, so it is recommended to stay far away. A half mile away or so (not sure what the recommendations are for kayaks, but it's 1/4 mile for larger boats). Do you need experience? Yes, but it's nothing you won't learn while you are here.
