EDIT So for some reason this is getting more attention than I had thought... after 3 years. So I figured I would let those of you who read the description know what's going on. Enzo is going to the vet for a check up. His family recently moved from a northern state to a southern state, his allergies did not appreciate that at all. But all is well with Enzo now!

My sister's Rottweiler must have been the strangest dog there was, always getting super happy once he realized they were heading to the vet. He didn't mind a syringe or two as long as he got more petting and scratching from even more people!
We never had any problems with any of our Dobermanns because we always set off to the vet with an attitude of "Yay, we're all going on a fun trip!", and we also had a great vet. I'm sure it's at least partly learned behaviour, we were all relaxed so the dogs were too.

Vets also euthanize pets so he could be losing his life. Dr. Kevorkian would have been praised as a wonderfully compassionate vet if he treated pets instead of humans. Animal shelters sometimes euthanize healthy animals if they go too long without getting adopted.

We had German Shepherds growing up. After 30 years of not hearing one, I can definitely remember their whine (cry). No one likes to go to the doctor, especially being brought there and not knowing.
My Belgian Shepherd LOVES going to the vet! We're walking distance, so it means she gets to go walk a route we don't normally take, then she gets to visit with her friends who give her hugs and scratchies, then she gets treats. She doesn't even seem to mind the shots. Then she gets more treats and ANOTHER walk!

My dog is super excited to go to the vet. The entire time from entering and to leaving.
My Havanese HATES vets she flinches, shakes and whines, my chihuahua is a model patient, just mellows out when being poked and prodded never even flinches for shots or blood draws. He’s a rescue so we weren’t sure how he’d react but he’s great!
My dog also wants to go in every time we pass by a vet clinic. "Unfortunately" she's healthy as what - but annual vaccinations are the best day ever.
I had a German Shepherd, everyone was afraid of her, she always wanted to fight, but when she saw the vet, she couldn't even get close, she turned into a little bird when she was there 😂 I miss her so much

Think about it. Think about when YOU are afraid to be somewhere and
would rather hide in the car than get out and face the place you went to.
You might sink down in your seat in an attempt to hide, you might hide behind the dashboard, but no matter what,
DOGS AND PEOPLE ALIKE HUNKER DOWN AND GET AT SMALL AS POSSIBLE WHEN AFRAID. This is a safety behavior ingrained in us, and dogs, for survival.
So what do dogs do, when they arrived somewhere SCARY and BAD?
THEY HIDE.
FEAR would be the dog COWERING.
FEAR would cause the dig to be CROUCHING DOWN.
FEAR would cause the behavior of his TAIL TUCKED.
FEAR would be him getting as LOW in the and FAR DOWN in the seat as possible.
FEAR would cause this dog to HIDE.
This dog IS NOT hiding.

But it can also be a much more intelligent response: bitching about something you have to do, but don't want to. Dogs are smarter then a lot of people give them credit

I had a 140lb German shepherd Henry for 12 years and one thing people don’t realize is they think shepherds are aggressive and weary and they are but it’s driven by fear . They’re afraid of everything , put something new in the yard and watch what they do . Thanks for sharing, so cute .
I had a dog that wasnt a german shepherd but his color pattern was very much like it, and whenever we go to the vet, that dog had no reaction whatsoever, even against other pets in line, when he got his shot of sedative syringe there was also no reaction from the needle, he was a brave boy, he was our no.1 guard dog and protector... Miss him so much, Rest in piece your in a better place now

Dogs don't understand what is going to happen, they can only know when something is sad, happy or angry, that's it, they don't really know if something is gonna go to the vet or etc. Dogs don't have a language they can talk with, they only show their current mood to express to others of its own kind how it feels, the reason why I typed this, it's because I think you are serious about the last sentence. And even if you are not, this would give you more clues on how to manipulate a dog with your mind.

Four consecutive german shepherds did this, no matter their characters, and no matter the extremely kind vets, and the cookie jar on the counter. But Ill always remember the 5-year old, in the first week she came to live with us. Leaving our neighborhood, turning onto the approach to the highway, and all of a sudden this excruciating whimpering started. 100 yards on, and it stopped. I had no clue, but investigated - turns out we had passed the animal shelter. Took 2 more times to learn that we would never go there.
