- I had my first ever Japanese straight perm around a year and a half ago, and then I had my last straight perm around a year ago! So it's been a year since my last straight perm (and probably since my last hair cut, too...)
The salon I go to is NALU in Omotesando!

Howwww can anyone have such a beautiful colour naturally.. I'd lie if I said I wasn't envious! You look amazing Rachel!
Nati Whatever both my sisters got gorgeous red hair lol I got brown :/
mine gets blond and ginger bits in it when it gets long
james fry something similar happen with mine. In the roots grown a dark brown, but the ends turns a medium to light brown. So a have a natural ombre. And no, I don't use any type of iron/blowers. I love so much my curls.
Heya Amadelys! I have natural gold-blonde-ish hair and it becomes very light closer to the end. Like a natural ombre highlight. It bleaches because it's been exposed to sun and it's more damaged and dry in the ends. Totally normal! :)
Nati Whatever I was thinking the same thing! She is lucky I love red hair.
Rachel, you're gifted with such a beautiful natural hair color and beautiful face, just like a goddess as Jun has said!
I love your Japanese permanent hair, so silky and neat looking. Perfect 👌
Baking Recipes Manisha Mauritius in what video did jun said that? 😍
I'd like to know that too :o
Ah oui. Li parfait, sa ale bien r li 😊
I wonder what their babies would look like!
In the video about how they met :)
I know this video is about your hair, but I wanted to comment on your eye makeup!! I noticed you started using orange around your eyes for the last little while and I wanted to say that I think it's so gorgeous on you. I love orange but I don't think I could pull it off with my skin and hair, but it looks so natural on you!
渡辺サブリナ it looks so beautiful with her red hair 💖💖
Potato omg for a second I thought you were responding to me and I was very confused 😂
Try it and see. I’m sure it would be fine on yours. And if you like the color there’s no harm in wearing it.
渡辺サブリナ her hair is naturally orange
How does Rachel always manage to look like a gorgeous Elven princess?
There's a thing called makeup in the market ...you know.....
Quora Anime Uh, a little more than that...
Because she is a gorgeous Elven princess.
Langdon Alger “a sack of stuffed tofu” BFJDHHDHE
@Langdon Alger unfortunately, it can.
Your hair color tho 🔥
i have this same natural color, it's great
So does Jesssfam
Jenny Baxter not to me, I’ve never seen such a gorgeous red on anyone
Ikr? she has such perfect hair
She's from Uzumaki Clan
If done properly Japanese straightening is a great thing . I have been doing it for 12 years plus . I use no heat of a blow dryer or straight iron . I personally love it as it’s a wash and go and saves sooo much time. I only get touch ups every 9-12 months
question, is that something that's only doable on slightly waved hair? or can you even get real long curly hair straight with this perm? never saw or heard of this before, and not sure if my hair would accept this straightening ^^
PapayaStyle It would work. If you watched the video when Rachel gets it the first time, they speak about how there are chemical reactions, loosening bonds, straightening them, locking that in. But if your hair is *extremely* frizzy/curly then you might need to do a touch up at the roots once every month or so because your natural hair grows out.
edit: So it seems I might be thinking of a different permanent hair straightening process. Japanese hair straightening is suitable for "hair that wasn't treated with chemicals before; bulky, loose to medium curls" src: Wikipedia
I've done the Japanese straightening treatment for about 3 months now my hair used to be like a fizzy mess as if my straight hair. became a afro (before I got it straight perm my hair is naturally straight)
now my hair is straight and perfect and I love it n my friends envy me yay. I never get touch ups my hair just became so straight
yeah ok, I'll definitely look more into this! thanks for the answer!
It’s called a keratin treatment in the states, not a permanent straightening. But it does help with straightening/relaxing your hair.
Who else has straight-wavy hair? With my hair, it’s straight from the scalp until right above my ears then it’s kind of like beach waves lol
Amber Elizabeth yep but i have them straight right until the chin, i love my hair but they are a bit weird. Why is that i always guess
My hair is wavy #hardtomanage and *thicc*
Amber Elizabeth me
I have straight all the way down then at the tip of my hair is wavy and also my front hair is wavy to
Mee!! I used to have straight hair until I got it cut into a bob, and now my hair is wavyyy! :;;;;
OH MY GOD I HAVE FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE ELSE WHO CUTS SPLIT ENDS WHEN BORED
I don't get split ends, it's probably from having short hair cut every half year to a year but I've never had one
Omg me too 😂 it’s a beneficial habit I love it
I thought I was alone in this 😂
Lmao every long haired people do this
Fawn Whisperer I was literally just doing it haha
I love the fact that in your initial hair straightening video you and the stylist went into detail about the exact methods and how it all worked and this video you go into the end results. I've been referring folks that bring up their hair to your video since you make so much more sense than I ever will. You've helped a lot of people with your insights and process.
I CANT EVEN I JUST LOVE YOUR HAIR ❤️
SandGirl me too!
SandGirl yes exactly! 😻
Then don't 😂
You might want to start using a leave-in conditioner to help with the dryness. Chemically straightened hair needs continuous moisture. Weekly coconut oil treatments might help too. They have for me tremendously.
She mentioned that she does a lot of hair masks
Haha no wonder Jun thought you were a model! Jun is a very lucky man.
Jun or Rachel.... Who was luckier person.....
I personally thing Rachel was luckier, because find a guy like Jun is much harder than Rachel.
But Both of them are adorable.
@Hemorr hoid is your name really just hemorrhoid-
Lets appreciate her hair color!!
If someone with noticably curly/wavy hair do this, it'll look so weird when the hair grow out lol
q i did it and i have rlly rlly curly big hair and it does looks wired
i did it a while ago and when my new hair grew in a sizeable amount it looked so so weird i had to wear it in a bun until i could cut off the ends lmao
saturn it’s been 6 months and my hair has grown so much. i straighten it everyday at this point
perrie x daily aw dude be careful with heat tho, try wrapping ur hair when it’s a little damp and go to sleep and it’ll be straighter with less damage
my classmate with curly ass hair did it, she goes to straighten it at least 2-3 times a year
I want this
omfg ITS YOU
you're so beautiful and your makeup is so good! i really like the eyeshadow colors, they look amazing on you!
Ohhhhh my god your hair is so beautiful especially at the end of the straightening process, it's stunning!
I have extreme curly hair, when I do this treatment it makes my hair relaxed wavy and easier to brush! Thank you for making these videos cause you gave me the idea to go for it and now I can’t live without it lol
Hi Rachel!! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with this process and treatment! It helped me with making the decision to go with the Japanese Straightening Perm as well the moment it became available here in Canada! I was so excited. I just recently had it done last week and it boosted my self confidence about my hair. My hair is naturally wavy and frizzy like yours but also black. I have always had trouble with styling and when the process was complete I couldn't stop looking at how wonderful it turned out. Thank you again for sharing this, it meant the world to me!!
Thank you so much Rachel! I've been wanting to get my hair straightened since I seen your original video on the subject, but I'm too scared to get it done here in CA. I'm going to Tokyo next week!!! and have been rewatching all your videos on the subject for the last few days, so this came out at such a perfect time for me! I hope my hair will look half as pretty as yours 💖
She looks like some president or like ver famous influencer when she's on her phone and the guys do her hair
"influencer" *facepalm*
kefsound why are you facepalming? it's a word, and a correct one too. Technically she *is* an influencer already.
Charis Cat hey thx charis i learned one more word today by u🍃🌸🍃
Sara Shahir thanks for thanking me :3 glad to have passed on something
Charis Cat where are you from charis if you don’t mind?:))
Your hair color is amazing, I’m envious. Your skin color is amazing too! You are incredibly blessed with an amazing husband and living in such a great country. Thank you for this video 🙏🏻
2:49 the expression everyone makes when they’re loving their new hair style xD
your top is super cute!!!! love you and jun!!! can't wait to see more!
your hair is absolutely beautiful, i'm in awe, wish i had hair like that!
Rachel is always so adorable.
You are so honest and precious. Thank you for sharing all aspects of your experience. I love that you do what makes you feel confident and comfortable. You are lovely. Blessings
You look amazing!!! I love how your hair looks shiny and sleek! Plus the color is life 😍😍😍
If you're new to using dry shampoo I've got a few tips for you. Do your dry shampoo the night before. Part your hair multiple times to make sure you're not just spraying the top of your head. If you do it the night before without brushing it out it gives the dry shampoo times to soak up the oil and by the morning the whiteness is gone.
Thanks for the tips!! I have no idea how to use it, haha
Forgot to add, if you find you have too much product in then you can either reduce it by brushing it out or using a hair dryer to blow it off. Good Luck! It took me a few years before I realised how to actually use the product properly.
i've tried that method but since i have such a dry, sensitive scalp i had really bad dandruff after brushing the dry shampoo out 😂
Helvetica09 mine too! I feel like dry shampoo dries my scalp and makes more dandruff
Where in Japan do you buy dry shampoo? I only found the powder at lush (which gets everywhere) and one from Shiseido, but it doesn't work (I feel like it's only for smell like hair mist). Japanese always have perfect hair, it's really hard to keep up without dry shampoo^^
Omg i love your jumper (at the start) and eyeshadow so muchhhh😍
Your hair looks wonderful! I love your complexion and hair colour together. It’s ethereal.
Your natural hair colour is unbelievably beautiful. The video is very insightful especially the first where the salon specialist explained how the treatment works. Thanks for the videos. I have super curly coily hair that's waaaay out of control(by your standards) and I love it. Love your videos. 💚
Rachel, YOUR HAIR IS ACTUAL GOALS
I really love your eye makeup in this video, Rachel. It suits you nicely.
Your hair looks beautiful! So glad the straightening didn't damage your hair. Love the shiny straight look. It definitely looks put-together and chic.
Awesome! I'm so glad you found a hair style / hair management technique that works so well for you.
Your hair looks amazing - I'm a natural blonde but always been jealous of red hair! I'm a frizzy lady too if I was living in Japan I'd definitely have this done.
Keep up the great videos! 👍
I did a hair straightening treatment two days ago and I can't wait to see how this turns out (they told me not to wash, style or pin my hair back for a few days, but so far it looks great ). I hope my hair turns half as great as yours, your hair looks awesome and suits you very well!
Hi! Where did you get your hair done??
Breanna De La Merced At a hair salon in Athens (this is where I live)! Also, update, I love it so far! My hair is straight, very smooth and feels healthy!
I've seen a lot of Japanese straightened hair some are horribly badly done but some are amazing and yours is absolutely lovely! I love it and I bet u love it because of how easy it is to maintain. I just love ur color too!
Thank you so much for posting this! After watching this video and the other one you did about the hair straightening I was so interested I found a place that did this technique in Kansas City Missouri and had it done and I absolutely love it. I would not have known of this if it weren’t for your videos so thank you!
my gosh, i wish my hair's just like yours. i really love it, its like fall.🍁🍁🍁🍂🍂🍂
You're soooo gorgeous! Really love how everything turned out 💕
It looks amazing, love how the light plays on it...
Just recently I wanted to comment that I think your hair looks SOOO AMAZING, especially since you straightened it. All the frizz is gone... it's like magic : D Love your videos
Your hair looks incredible!! Wish there were perks like that in the US!!😍
I can’t get over how pretty your hair color is😭💞
The color of your hair always captivates me! ♡◇♡ It also looks much better now that you got it redone, so silky looking.
Her hair her jumper and eye colour go so well together and she looks so pretty!!
I had my hair permed straight when I was 11 and it made bits of my hair fall out and didn't last long at all. This method seems pretty appealing to me, it turned out so nice
JTL this and perm is different
Rachel is goals 😻😻
Your hair looks so smooth, I love watching you brush it with your fingers
The sweater goes so good with your complexion + unbelievable fiery red hair ❤️😭
Your makeup looks amazing in this video! 👌
You grow a lot of hair each year. You're so lucky. Wish mine grew that much. You have beautiful hair to boot. I always enjoy your videos. You two have lots of fun and I love to see the kitty's!!!
Phyllis Steging it's actually annoying - at least to me, my hair grows fast too. I have to go to the hair dresser soooo often to keep my bangs short and my hair at a certain length x_x
Nakop--I can't help the, back when it's growing but I do trim my bangs. Not perfect but so can see where I'm going. LOL
I wish mine grew that fast as well. I cut my hair in Nov 2013 to wear it just touched my shoulders and now after almost 4 and a half years, it is only at my bra's clasp.
Shaanlovex wow that really is slow :O. My hair grows 10 cm in just 3 months.
Is there a chance that growth is affected by the shampoo etc. you use...? Or your vitamins..?
My hair grows really fast, too. I have heavy, thick, Spanish curls, and I just had my stylist buzz the underneath to get rid of some of the bulk, it's already grown out. Bangs, too, are so frustrating when your hair grows fast... and you have to use a flat iron to straighten them. Too short and they stick straight out, too long, and they cover my eyes. Lol.
Seriously, this girl has the hair of my dreams.
Just wanted to stop in and say that I adore you and Jun. you both are so wonderful and all of your videos are great❤️❤️❤️
I love the straight hair. Also the orange eyeshadow looks perfect with your hair.
I'm so surprised no one has picked her out for modeling, because Rachel is stunning.
navy blue looks really good on you!
I'm so in love with your makeup here!
Wow, your hair is so beautiful!!!! Great color and still straight, awesome
Yay!! Upload!!
I've always wanted my hair to be this color naturally, ever since I was a kid! Maybe I should try having it dyed this color, just to have tried it at least. I've dyed it other colors but I thought dyed red hair will never look the same as natural red hair... But it might still be fun!
They did a fab job! Such beautiful hair!
Your hair look incredible that straight and glossy! It’s such a cool treatment & it works really well for you :D
I have the same hair type as you Rachel, however my hair is black. I feel self conscious too. I did the hair straightening from the time I entered late middle school to once I entered college cause I was so self conscious. Now I'm trying to stay natural cause I'm dealing with hair loss, but getting it straightened is so tempting.. XD
Ah. Finally someone with my hair colour 🤭💞😂 love you your so pretty!!
I absolutely love the colour of your hair
Rachel your hair color is so beautiful 😍😍 I didn’t even notice it was natural
OH MY GOSH I WAS JUST WONDERING ABOUT THIS THE OTHER DAY i saw the Japanese perm video again and i wondered how it was doing
I mean, I'm SURE that with proper care and guidance your natural texture would be BOMB! if you got it to the point where the waves formed a proper pattern without the frizz, it would be as stunning as you are :)
your eyeshadow matches perfectly with your hair! lovely!
Thank you so much for these videos!!
I detest my frizz! I can spend 1 hour straightening and curling it, then when I go outside on a humid day, it all blows up into a fuzzy halo!
I’m getting this done in a few weeks ^^ my hair never stays straight. It’s even worse in the summer.
Absolutely beautiful hair color! 😍🔥
Rachel, your hair is beautiful. I think the straightening brings out the beautiful colors of your hair. I also like the way you’ve done your eyes. Tell Jun hi.
SO EARLY!!!!!!!!! I LOVE YOU TWO!!!!!!
I love how it looks on you. My hair is extremely straight naturally, but not that flawless. Only issue is when straightened, it lacks volume and I do not look so good... Added issue that I cannot style hair to save my life.
your makeup and your hair too, omg 😍😍 last year I was at Nalu, absolutely recommend it!!
I got a magic perm here in South Korea and it's wonderful! I look forward to getting a treatment or even the perm at the place you recommended, when I visit Japan in August. Thanks for recommending the location -- so affordable!
omg I would love to get this done cause I have such curly hair
Do japanese perm hair for haku too he's getting fluffy
Lakshmi Narayan your name is a brand name for chiwda.
Nah.... he's perfect just as he is, a cutie fluff ball of loveableness😺💛
Maya Khan 😂😂😂😂 no exceptions for that
Lakshmi Narayan disagre,.. he is a purrrfect kitty cat 🐈🐈🐈
That would be the funniest thing ever
her makeup skills got so much better since the first videos! my inspiration
I just got mine done and I love it!!
you're so gorgeous... porcelain skin and such beautiful hair and eyes!
I think the lighting in her room makes her look really pale
sorry? haha i didn't realise it came across as creepy. i just meant her skin is quite flawless and a very nice complexion, it compliments her hair.
bells your compliment wasnt creepy at all, dont worry:)
bells it is called Makeup :)
@Nokia, bells didn't sound creepy, but you did - jumping on people for no good reason.
When I was living in Australia I would let my hair air dry then put my jumper hoodie up for 10 mins and it would tame the flyaways without heat.
The perm has made SUCH a difference to your hair. I have a similar texture to you're natural hair, and this treatment seems like a God send.
I love the straight look. I had the same humidity problem when I visited Japan. I feel like none of my pictures turned out good because of my frizzy hair. I will get a straightener next time I’m in Japan. Thank you for the video!! 🌟✨‼️
Your hair is so pretty Rachel. But I do understand frizzy hair. Here in Dubai my hair gets frizzy all the time and it’s impossible to look nice and smooth😭. I had no idea it take so much work to straighten the hair. Btw does it damage the hair in any way? Also what are the negatives? Hope you had a wonderful Easter 🐣 💖
Yes, I'm pretty sure it damages the hair! Hence it feeling drier and sometimes crimping in weird ways lol. But to me it's worth it. Probably the same for people who dye their hair a lot, I guess?
Honestly straightening your hair every day with a flat iron is probably more damaging in the long run. My sister straightened her hair every day in high school, but had to stop because it thinned her hair and it was breaking off.
Straightening your hair does damage it, but the severity of damage depends on your natural hair texture and how many chemical services you've had done to your hair (Haircolor, bleach). In cases with a permanent hair straightening or other chemical services it's always best to schedule a consultation beforehand. So the stylist knows the history of your hair and the possible effects, positive or negative, in your hair. Most places in the US will give a free consultation. I can't speak for other countries.
P.S. sorry this comment is so long. I hope I answered your question.
Of course, everything you do to your hair damages it. Even brushing it. ;) I agree with the person above, talk to a professional if you feel like there is a specific permanent look you want.
Thanks Rachel it makes sense.
Just saw Brad Mondo do a reaction video on your straightening treatment. I was wondering how it looked after some time and what the upkeep was like so I looked you up. Your hair is just gorgeous by the way, Oh how does curling it go does it hold a curl and do you ever curl it?
I'm also curious to know how well curling works after a permanent straightening. Both with a hot iron and rollers ;o
sorry for the late reply but - i permanently straightened my hair last january, and i've tried curling it with a curling iron around 2-3 times. for me, i need to hold small sections of my hair on the curling iron for a really long time (~45 seconds) for it to even be able to curl. after that, it stays curly for like 12 hours, and gradually, over the course of like 3 days, it flattens out but not to the point where it's completely straight - there's still a bit of volume/texture in it. i dont normally use a curling iron though, since ive found that it has damaged my hair even more than it already is (it gets super dry and some parts of my hair have a weird texture). hope this helps :)
her hair is amazing!!!
I love my hair after the perm. Thanks for introducing me to this! I think I need to do touch ups soon too
Your hair is so lovely! I have looked for hair straigtening in the US and it is at least $300!!!!! Does it cost this much in Japan?
Melissa Bucholz she said 180 in her last video
I went to their website to check the price and it starts at US$128 plus tax, and goes up to $182 for long hair like hers.
It's US$300+ near me too (includes haircut). A great example of Economics 101 perhaps.
That’s a good price in Chicago it cost me 440 and that’s for medium length hair
I'm Japanese and have frizzy hair. On rainy days, my hair gets sooo frizzy like yours, so I've decided to have straight perm too
I really like your eye makeup this video !!
Love your hair & make up!! I kinda wanna try the Japanese straight perm now... lol
You are so beautiful Rachel
Why am I even watching this?? I have long curly hair!! 😭😭
Anyway... I love your hair color and your make up!! 😍😍
Have a nice day 😉❤ greetings from Italy ❤❤
Aurora G I have a short pixie cut and I watched it lol.
I really want to get this do this looks soooo pretty !!
Your natural hair color is sooooo pretty omg 😍😍😍
