    My go to weapon for home defense is a, TBP-12 a semi-automatic, 12-gauge Bullpup shotgun paid $219+tax, with an overall length of 29" it's perfect for close-in home defense. I added a green laser/ flashlight foregrip, an extra five round and 2 ten round magazines. The furthest in house shooting I would have to do would be 35 ft or less.
    I keep it loaded with number 6 heavy bird shot and a full choke. I found that combination at those distances will put a dinner plate size hole through any drywall or hollow interior door.
    I broke it in with 100 rounds of 00 Buckshot.
    The only problems I had were operator induced. I loaded shells incorrectly in the magazine. I loaded the base rim of the upper shell incorrectly behind the rim of the lower shell. I have about 300 rounds now, mostly heavy birdshot, problem free.

      That's something I wouldn't want to run into on a dark night if I were up to no good. Sounds like a pretty potent combo. I like the green laser idea.

      Well, I guess you know not to show up and try to enter at my house unannounced 😉
      I forgot to mention that I'm almost 70 and I don't have any problem with the recoil. I like shooting this shotgun. The foregrip really helps.
      The flashlight and Laser are just pluses. Just for fun and outdoor shooting, I mounted an inexpensive red/green reflex sight on the top rail.
      I hope to God I never have to use it in home defense. Repair & redecorating would be very expensive.
      Take Care and stay safe.

    FYI the 5rd factory mag can be used to fix the promag 20rd drums shortcomings.
    If anyone has shot the 20rd drum you know it wasn’t designed well. The factory 5 rounder will drop the drum far enough down for you to shoot it unhindered.
    You will also have to add 2 more dummy rounds inside the promag.

    I have this same exact gun and optic package. Love the gun and Sightmark. Unfortunately, I started having a problem with the charging handle randomly unlocking under recoil at about the 500 round mark of it's life cycle. It will unlock during a shot even though I have verified the bolt is completely in battery and both locking tabs of the charging handle are engaged. Sometimes it will slide all the way back it's full length of travel and hit my nose. Although it doesn't hit hard enough to hurt or injure my nose. I'm guessing I need to replace the spring inside the charging handle. You're not lying about the ATI's ability to cycle any kind of load you put in it. Mine runs the cheapest low powered bird shot shells just as good as the high brass shells. Nice review!

    I’ve been looking for a bullpup. My biggest concern is it’s ability to shoot lighter loads. Some brands require a minimum 1400 fps load to cycle. I want #4 Buck for the house and most loads that I can find are 1350 fps. I think I found the winner. Gun store by my house has ‘em in stock $375 out the door.

      Hey that's awesome! Since I put the video up I've had a couple people ask where to find them and they seem to be hard to find sometimes so pretty sweet that you've got a bead on one, pardon the pun. I've still got this one and it's going super strong for me I've put literally hundreds more rounds through it since the video just a super fun shotgun and the compact nature of it and ability for fast reloads in my opinion makes it great for home defense. Especially if you hang a lighted reticle sight of some type and a Tac light on it for things may go bump in the night or as is the case sometimes up here when you've got an unwanted critter outside getting into the trash or something in the wee hours of the morning.

    selection that best suites this gun in a home defense situation?

    • @TheMaineiacguy
      @TheMaineiacguy  Před 9 měsíci +4

      Sure thing in my opinion to answer your first question it's best to zero it at 20 or 25 yards using slugs. That will give you your most precise point of aim as a reference then you can follow up with birdshot and Buckshot to kind of see how it patterns as mentioned in the video you definitely don't want to use the full choke since you won't get the accuracy with the slugs or the buck out of a full choke. And in my opinion the best home defense load for a shotgun is buckshot. Not a ton of over penetration and yet gives you a wider dispersion of shot when your adrenaline is through the roof and something goes bump in the night. I mean let's face it most folks don't spend hundreds of hours training and the reality is those kinds of crisis situations rarely happen when you are alert awake and ready to go. More like when you're half awake or awakened from a dead sleep. And as someone wise once said one will never rise to the occasion but will always default to their lowest level of training. While I definitely Advocate a lot of time at the range and a lot of time training the reality is Buckshot gives you that little bit of close enough is close enough so to say. Basically allows you to get on target quickly and put shots where they belong to devastating effect. Honestly in my opinion these shotguns lend themselves perfectly to running with a tac light, some sort of a red dot or etched reticle, something lighted, and Buckshot or slugs for home defense but when seconds count and you can't afford to miss because lives depend on it I think it's best to give the widest margin of error while still giving a greater chance at success and Buckshot is the ticket for that. On a much lighter note congratulations on the purchase my friend and may you always be ready for the unthinkable but never need to answer that particular call. This is a super fun shotgun and I bet you giggle the first couple times you squeeze that trigger. Hopefully this information helps, thank you so much for watching our video and checking out our Channel. Take care!

      @@TheMaineiacguy Solid response. I appreciate the information. Been looking into a semi-automatic shotgun for home defense. • @TheMaineiacguy
      @TheMaineiacguy  Před 7 měsíci

      @@bignasty389 I definitely get what you are saying there. For many, budget is a huge obstacle though and running a budget shotgun is lightyears ahead of the old family .22. And the old .22 is way ahead of the kitchen knife if you follow my thought process there. In all honesty this ATI Bulldog is still running flawlessly for me and hasn't had a single hiccup. In full disclosure though, I personally run a Stoeger double defense side by side shotgun with a Sig Romeo 5 Predator optic and a streamlight polytac mounted under the barrels as well as a Sig P226 Legion 9mm (Tritium X ray 3 night sights) and a Streamlight TLR 1 HL. But as I say it really just depends on what peoples acceptable budget and personal needs are. Thanks for the comment, I always enjoy chatting with folks. Be well my friend and have an amazing day.

    • @TheMaineiacguy
      @TheMaineiacguy  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Depending on what you're using it for the improved cylinder or modified would suit you for most ethical applications because a good medium joke will handle buckshot and slugs just fine as well as steel shot if that's what you have available to you which none of those things fire great through a full choke just due to being constricted and it generally puts stress on the barrel as well as your accuracy will suffer. Basically the full choke is good if you're using a finer shot like number four number six number eight and so on so basically if you are hunting birds or squirrels that full choke will constrict the shot to give you a bit more range. Thanks so much for checking out the video and our Channel my friend. I can't really think of anything else to bring up as I tried to go over about everything I could think of in the video. @rscott242003 this is a smoothbore shotgun so it really likes regular shot shells and foster or Brenneke type slugs which are fairly common. Really you want to stay away from sabot slugs etc that are really intended for rifled shotguns. Gun shop will charge you a reasonable transfer fee for paperwork and background check. Whoever the deal is online will do whatever is required to go through the gun shop. Should be pretty standard for any gun shop. Classic firearms site ahs them for $325. I've had my eye on one for a while but can't make up my mind between that and the TBP 12.

      I just checked and they are definitely available at a few online distributors . Unfortunately due to CZcams regulations I can't direct people exactly where to purchase things because it violates the rules and could get the channel shut down . But I checked two of the Distributors that I often use and they are in stock in both places, pretty big national online distributors. My son has been telling me I have to get a Patreon up and going to be able to put product links and things like that there I am definitely going to have to do that at some point in the near future it's just super frustrating being limited as to what I can put out here on the platform directly. I absolutely love making CZcams videos. It's a ton of fun for my son and I to put them together, definitely sometimes pretty limiting for firearms content creators, though, with all the rules. America on my friend I'm sure you'll get your hands on a Bulldog and when you do hopefully you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Pretty typical fee for most gun shops is to charge a 25 or $50 transfer fee and other than that a lot of the Distributors you can literally just purchase directly from them and have it shipped to the FFL and that is where your background check is done for which you pay the $25 or 50 bucks at least that's how it works up here in Maine.

      I actually ran into a little trouble when I was using a 10-round magazine. I think it was from Panzer. So after that I kind of just figured I would stick with the ones that work and bought a couple of the ATI mags. I have heard mixed reviews where a few people were able to make other mags work though. As for me, I just decided to keep it simple.

      @@TheMaineiacguy Thank you. I was just wondering because I don't really like the way one end of the ATI mags are bigger in order to fit under the front of the gun.

      Due to CZcams's policies, I can't really put links because it's gun related. However, I can't say if memory serves I purchased both of those things right on Amazon. The foregrip is just a Magpul angled foregrip, and the site is a Sightmark. I hope this helps.

      I think I saw one floating around at some point. Unfortunately, it's against CZcams policy to show disassembly of a firearm, so I can't do it on this platform. My son has been encouraging me for quite some time to get a patreon started to create another platform where I can put content like that up. Thanks for watching, and I'm so very sorry I can't be of more help to you on this.

    MESSING WITH CHOKES ON SHOTGUNS SOME OF THE STUPIDIST ISH IVE SEEN...PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY YOU NEED A TIGHT GROUP WHEN HUNTING OR SELF DEFENSE?

    • @TheMaineiacguy
      @TheMaineiacguy  Před 11 měsíci +3

      the tighter the group, the longer the range. I usually find a modified to be a good compromise for most things though. But if you are say hunting turkeys at a longer range a full or super full choke will keep you on target for a much longer range but at the expense of REALLY tightening your group at close range which isn't ideal at close range. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

      @nathanielwright1493 like I said if I’m trying to hit you with a shotgun or bird turkey hunting I don’t want a right group because I’m trying to hit you sounds like you need a rifle
